You should absolutely discount people who view you and your way of existence as negative or polar opposite of what they deem is the right way of being because they have religious doctrine as supreme authority. This is one of the leading causes for violent chaos in the world and why the majority view non-heterosexuals as abominations.

Back to the subject at hand though, rejecting a good candidate for a partner because they don't share your faith or religion (which has nothing to do with values) is foolish to me.

For the record I don't feel embarrassed by the content of this site. This probably the only gay site I feel that way about. There are many interesting topics and discussions that have nothing to do with sex or gayness which is something I enjoy and the topics that do discuss sexuality are honest and thought provoking and not raunchy. I actually think straight people would benefit from reading the posts and comments. Though I doubt they'd actually have the nerve to visit the site unless they stumbled upon it by accident.

 

This is my reality here.
It's scary for me when I think about it so I try not to.

I know I'm not old but I'm far from young.

I only have one close relation left, my sister and I'm still taking care of and guiding her life.
She, my niece and the dog keep me grounded and make me take care of myself because I know they need me.

It'd be very easy for me to slip into old bad habits but I keep thinking about what would happen to them.

There is no one that's gonna or can help me if time and life brings on problems, which being completely honest, I know is good because if I had some kind of safety net, I would take it for granted and slack.

 

But Nate Parker does look like one of them type dudes who would disown and never speak again to his BEST FRIEND after finding out the dude was gay. Yeah I hear you...I'm just reading between the lines of what they were stating in the article, assuming that just because the status is unknown, they are likely to be HIV positive. This is not the case. True, the sexual interaction is more of a gamble...but the odds of infection itself doesn't change since the person a paranoid person would eventually have sex with would have likely been asked about status, etc. Possibly even with verification.

My only point was if you were a person so afraid of HIV that you purposely avoided having sex with men who were positive, you are likely NOT a person who has sex with someone whose status is unknown. It just doesn't add up that you'd be a person who vehemently rejects HIV+ men for safety and ALSO be someone who doesn't even try to find out if the men you're dating are HIV+ in the first place.

 

My experience has been interesting. I've always known that I liked men and women (but I do prefer men, bigtime). Personally, it really didn't become an issue for me until college (I didn't date until then). I used to feel like id didn't matter, and I don't really have to choose. However, in college, when the pressure to "choose" became too much, I actually came out.
After college, I met a woman and dated. My gay friends said "You just don't know what you want". My reply was that that labels just don't work for me. I'll accept love from whomever it comes from. And that has been my consistant truth today.
After moving and ending that relatinship, I started dating men again and then a women, who I ended up marying. I was never secretive, nor did I ever try to hide my gay friends.
Many years later, that marriage ended.. and not because of a need to be with a man (so don't get it twisted). However, at this point in my life, it would have to be a VERY special woman to make me go back... . and I say that with a bit of humor and a bit of truth.

Over the years there was so much pressure from the straights to be straight.. and so much pressure from the gays to be gay.
In the end, I just decided to be ME... and keep them mofoes guessin...lol

So let me get this straight, he makes 60 - 70k a month and ONLY interested in black gay men in his salary range?

And although you didn't go into the entire conversation during the date, I imagine I black gay man at this level of financial success would definitely not stop there. He would also need to be,

• Attractive (to his standards)
• Height and weight proportional
• A top (if he is a bottom) w/ a big dick
• A bottom (if he is a top) w/ a nice ass
• Has great style
• Great taste in homes.
• ETC, ETC

I have nothing against apps, but it seems like he may need to use a better method of choosing dates that would meet his "caliber". Such as gay social circles of all high net worth men that can set him up with someone at his level. There are many very wealthy gay men indeed and more often than not, they are old, overweight, balding, late queens that still listen to disco, you get the point.

I have nothing against his financial success and can understand how he would like someone similar to him. However, it would seem to me that some concessions would need to be made if he really wants to date someone. That is going to be unbelievably hard to find with matching income as the starting (not only) criteria. He actually sounds completely ridiculous. (including the obnoxious getting expensive gifts for friends during the date). Im sure your better off not getting to know this guy.

 

I think both @RolandG and @OckyDub are right...A lot of the BS going on with Black Gay Dating is the same as it was before, however there are def new complexities that one who has been out of the market for nearly 10 years can't fathom. Add to that the fact that @OckyDub is not on social media in the traditional sense, unlike the majority of the people dating in this day and age. This is not to say that its all bad out there, especially since there are tons of guys out there who have no problems dating for the most part.

I think a big difference now vs 10 years ago is many guys are competing with not only other men in their local areas, they are also competing against unobtainable social media images/fantasies that ALL Black gay men THINK they can get with if they just keep stringing the local dudes along until it happens. Its the "next best thing" way of dating on steroids. Even in @Lancer's story the dude paused their date to go holla at a dude with a nicer ass...right in front of him... I've had this happen to me with guys texting other dudes or jumping on the apps while out with me.

Either way, this shouldn't be a pity party. Just a discussion on new ways that the game has changed.

Side Note: I stress "Black Gay Dating" in my comments because, while they have issues too, dating with White Gay Men is a different reality altogether. This is based on my limited knowledge (ie: HBO's Looking).

 

I think it's easier for us to view people from previous generations who are culturally revered like Marlon Brando and Richard Pryor in an almost saintly fashion but these revelations show previous generations were freaks just like we are. They had the same sexual desires and appetites as people today. There was just no internet or social media to broadcast it. There was only rumors and innuendo. Also I think the creative field and entertainment industry tend to attract "free spirits," gays, bisexuals, and liberal minded folks. The good thing about stories like this and about Luther Vandross becoming public is it helps to blow a hole in the Hotep conspiracy theory that non-heterosexual black people are some new fangled thing cooked up in a government laboratory.

A lot of people never let go of what they're told (through various mediums) looks good vs what actually looks good to them,or on the next guy.A guy who looks like ALL he does is live in the gym and is built outta bricks turns me off as much as one who probably eats one salad a day max.Both just look unnatural.And then a lot of the ones who look like the "ideal" body feel like if they achieved a certain look,everyone else should too,without thinking about how practical that is.

Size and weight are always going to fluctuate like everything else in life.NOTHING in the world stays "perfect" or in any consistent state.

I think that the problem with the DL Chronicle guys is (or at least the issue) that they produce high grade quality content that can be broadcast on network TV. It's already mastered, been through legal clearance and that is extremely expensive to produce. It's also difficult to monetize and make a profit from it. I don't think they're the strongest when it comes to business side of the business. I think they thrive more on the creative side. These "chitlin' circuit" web series on the other hand violate so many laws they could get sued for any number of things from people inadvertently captured during filming, the use of unauthorized music, bad lighting, bad sound, bad cinematography and least of all bad acting, writing or directing. These guys can put out show after show of mediocre material easily.

@BlackguyExecutive picture from the HRC event is typical. In the nearly 20 years I worked on syringe exchange federal funding issues here is Washington, HRC barely paid lip service to the cause. Although those of us working on the issue never had a clear explanation for their absence (and indeed the near disappearance of HIV/AIDS as an issue on their website), we were in general agreement that the reason for their absence was the unavoidable fact that the population affected by injected drug related HIV transmission (urban and rural minority men) was not their base or even their concern.

 

I think an interview with one of these former actors would be insightful. I get the feeling that the setup with these young and black gay dudes is on par with the Chris Stokes and B2K setup. I don't know about the scripted shows but I did have one of the young actors working for my company and he was definitely all over the place. Horrible living situation, family that was not supportive, irresponsible but with dreams of being rich and famous. I tried to talk to him a couple of times to let him know he was headed in the wrong direction but the pull of the youtube and social media clicks was too strong. These young kats have no good role models, no support system and they're out there just winging it thinking they're doing the right thing while somebody is taking advantage of their looks. SMH
