The entire time it was on I was looking at it like:

 

When I first understood that my mind was open to the possibility of being even emotionally available to another man in a way beyond the typical brotherly fashion I was afraid. I thought to myself if I can feel this way that means it can go further and oh what if I fall in love we wouldn't be able to have biological children etc all of these things ran through my mind and I'd say a blend of guilt and the feeling that this realized sexual openness was selfish of me definitely was something I had to unpack. Being bisexual definitely assisted me with thinking that it's a possibility that if children and a wife is what is in the cards the possibility is there, if it's not it's not. I've accepted that and the guilt has subsided.

 

I'm not going to lie. I got horny out of nowhere when I was trying on clothes last weekend at a department store and I jo'd. lol

It's not difficult and doesn't take effort to believe in something you've been indoctrinated with at birth when free will and thought is at its lowest.

Basically, if Europeans had not conquered and colonized the planet and forcible spread Christianity, there is a very strong logical chance that melaninated peoples ideals of god wouldn't exist in it's current state.

 

Well at least you guys get hit on by someone lol, even if they are women. I never really had that problem or I just gave off too much of an 'aloof' vibe. When it did happen I was always surprised and just 'huh' incredulous-I have been mostly 'out' so long I just kind of sometimes feel that people(anyone including any random stranger) 'knows' too-which is not the case apparently as I occasionally have been reminded. Plus besides highschool friends I have had very few if any female friends or even acquaintances and do not mix well with females really so besides being friendly as in 'work friendly' I think I give off a 'don't bother me/I am not interested in talking to you'/'I don't give a shit'/I am not gonna respond to you so don't do it' vibe to women. I grew up around men and I am more comfortable in person with men-preferably other gay(but not flaming) men. I also have never had the looks of an 'SB3'(damn him lol) so I have not had the getting hit on thing like that. And I guess race does play a part in that-white women maybe are not that 'forward' and I think probably have more options? Once you get to a certain age anyway it seems most are married or in relationships around here so there are fewer of them checking for men really.

Intimacy with a partner was great because if the sex did not go so well or things did not go as planned it was ok...it was just a part of a larger thing and not a big deal. Not the same without the trust and intimacy. Also except for a few times in the last 15 years(not including the last five that have been celibate) I had to be drinking to even be interested in sex with someone-even the few people I dated-no wonder things did not last long. I was in no shape to even be dating. I was too caught up in the grief from my partner's death. I sought out company by well, being a slut(I was also a slut when I first came out, kid in a candy store thing), but this second hoedom was really sad and sinister and destructive-having sex for all the wrong reasons.

All that ended up doing was further damaging me. I won't go back to having sex until I can have it for the right reasons-which means I may be permanently celibate-I am ok with that. Nobody can take care of 'me' better than 'me' (why I love that 'Sensual Masturbation parody video I posted way back). I would rather have friendship and then maybe intimacy and some trust and then the sex...or even without the sex would be ok. I have had enough for a lifetime(or three) so I would be all right.

*Of course this all needs to be taken in consideration of factors like my age, when I became sexually active, etc. and the fact that at least now I do not have a very high sex drive. And the fact that anyone around me age seems to only be interested in sex, or nothing at all( meaning way younger guys *sigh*).

My first job was working for a lawyer during my freshman year of high school. I would work 3 hours a day every day filing papers, making copies, cleaning up the office and running back and forth the courts. Then I would work full-time in the summers. (I also worked at a museum.)

After I graduated from college, the lawyer introduced me to someone who introduced me to someone else who helped me land my first professional job out of college...which was my dream job. To this day, I have not held a professional job that I've applied for and give my first job and boss the credit for paving the way for me as a professional. I learned a lot at a young age and that has benefited me throughout my career.

 

I say this abt NY ALL THE DAMN TIME. Ppl assume big city means big opportunities, but the blk gay visibility/presence in ny pales in comparison to a place like atl.

I've always been curious about black LGBT history. This is mainly b/c most of the events of significance that were fortunate enough to be recorded weren't widely disseminated or only received brief footnotes....esp in small town libraries like the one I had. I had no idea who Barnard Rustin was until I went to college. Thanks to the Internet, I'm noticing a lot more information pop up online. It's funny how gay culture in the past parallels gay culture today:

The Harlem of the 1920s, which produced a flowering of art, music and writing, was indisputably gay. Being "in the life" was part of the landscape of the community. The 1983 essay "T'Aint Nobody's Bizness: Homosexuality in 1920's Harlem," by Eric Garber, puts it in sharp focus:

At the beginning of the twentieth century, a homosexual subculture, uniquely Afro-American in substance, began to take shape in New York's Harlem. Throughout the so- called Harlem Renaissance period, roughly 1920 to 1935, black lesbians and gay men were meeting each other [on] street corners, socializing in cabarets and rent parties, and worshiping in church on Sundays, creating a language, a social structure, and a complex network of institutions.

Private parties were the best place for Harlem lesbians and gay men to socialize, providing safety and privacy. "We used to go to parties every other night.... The girls all had the parties," remembered Mabel Hampton. Harlem parties were extremely varied; the most common kind was the "rent party." Like the blues, rent parties had been brought north in the Great Migration. Few of Harlem's new residents had much money, and sometimes rent was hard to come by. To raise funds, they sometimes threw enormous parties, inviting the public and charging admission. There would be dancing and jazz, and bootleg liquor for sale in the kitchen. It is about just such a party that Bessie Smith sang her famous "Gimme a Pigfoot and a Bottle of Beer." On any given Saturday night there were scores of these parties throughout Harlem, often with those in attendance not knowing their hosts. The dancing and merriment would continue until dawn, and by morning the landlord could be paid. Lesbians and gay men were active participants in rent parties. The New York Age, one of Harlem's newspapers, complained in 1926:

One of these rent parties a few weeks ago was the scene of a tragic crime in which one jealous woman cut the throat of another, because the two were rivals for the affections of a third woman. The whole situation was on a par with the recent Broadway play [about lesbianism, The Captive], imported from Paris, although the underworld tragedy took place in this locality. In the meantime, the combination of bad gin, jealous women, a carving knife, and a rent party is dangerous to the health of all concerned.

If you scan the index of any reputable book on the Harlem Renaissance, you should find at least one listing for Harold Jackman. If the book is definitive or particularly resourceful, there will be several mentions throughout the whole text. Jackman did not write nor paint, and thus did not leave an ouevre. But let's not get it twisted, Harold Jackman was no minor player in the game!

Ever the social butterfly, he was active in many organizations like the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Urban League and the Negro Actors Guild, where he served on the executive board.

Some say he achieved "nobility by association" but let's straighten it out and say that his was definitely one of the brightest lights of that era. Because he did not have a famous novel, score or sculpture, Jackman is now relegated to the sidelines when one looks at the larger picture. Indeed, it is at the sidelines, in the index and buried in the footnotes that Harold Jackman can now be found. Yet, it is impossible to have an in-depth conversation about Countee Cullen, for instance, without mentioning Harold Jackman. And if he was never known for anything, at least he was once known as one of Harlem's most attractive men.

In the 20's and 30's, Mr. Jackman was often described as an boulevardier, and as such he was a head turner. So much so, that many of the era's leading artists and photographers, including Winold Reiss, Richmond Barthe, Carl Van Vechten and James L. Allen (top) rushed to capture his handsome visage.

The black American poet Countee Cullen (1903–46) was the poet laureate of the Harlem Renaissance. His homosexuality is central to his work, although most African-American scholars ignore it or suppress it. His attitude to his homosexuality was as mixed as his attitude to his blackness: simultaneously affirmative and condemnatory, celebratory and troubled. He wrote poems for his lovers, and dedicated poems to his closest gay friends: Alain Locke, Harold Jackman, Carl Van Vechten, and Leland Pettit. Though closeted, he was well known in the gay underground. Cullen's early failures at sustaining a gay relationship perhaps caused him to turn to women, and he married Yolande DuBois, daughter of W. My husband, who is a state agent and social worker that primarily works with persons with disabilities, including those with severe disfigurements, rare conditions etc. would say that people routinely discount disabled persons as being non-sexual which is not the case, Just because someone has a limp or a disfigurement doesn't make them a non sexual being. I am going to share this post with him just to get him riled up and maybe I can get some later.

Follow up statement and question; this happened to me once also. I don't have a problem saying that we met up at a grocery store parking like as the date was to follow me to a bar to begin our evening. Well, after I saw him and his attire, I quickly changed locations. I took him to a white leaning bar where I knew he would not be so "suspect."

Question...(Tyroc you kinda already answered), should your first date with a guy you meet via app/online be in a more neutral, white, trendy, gay leaning space just in case he comes looking like...

 

I'm a black man whose attractions is for other black men. So the question of why some white men don't date black men doesn't concern me. I figure that because I do not have attraction for white men that I understand how they might not have an attraction to me either. But again it's nothing that I will ever lose sleep over. However!!! I am confused over black men who clearly say they're interested in whites and hispanics but don't care to list black. And....... their own ethnicity listed is black. That leaves me scratching my head & there has been times that I have gotten a headache thinking about how that could happen. So you don't like your own?
