Social media status is def an indicator... number of followers/friends, how many likes they get on even the most mundane comments and photos, and how many pics they are in on other gaylebrity pages and events.

 

I think sex ed should cover masturbation and sex in genral instead of just wrap it up or ambstance only which frankly doesn't work. People will have sex its better to give them some gudience instead of do whatever and as the conversion the breakfast crew had clearly illustrates it depands on the indivudale for some it does for others its just something till the "real" thing

 

Lancer, thanks for the links, I enjoy all kinds of music and it's always great being introduced to new artists and composers. I realized after reading your post I probably don't listen to music to relax so much as order and structure my thoughts. Outside of work, it's mostly jazz and classical when I'm in my own environment (home). Three pieces I find myself listening to in off hours to mentally rearrange




But at work I usually use music as a wall to keep the nonsense and bs of childish coworkers away from me (it's not slow but it "relaxes" me in keeping me from growling at the fools on the job)

 

Disagree. When feminist contentiously generalize masculinity and equate it to a negative. I'm beyond tired of female feminist and gay feminist dissecting masculinity; something they are not authorities of nor something they really care about. I think their energy needs to be focused on women, femininity and matriarchy.

 

This is similar to what happened to me, just no hookup app...but from the part at the bar....and I was able to mostly..mostly..fight it off.

It is sad how I seem to have heard a version of this story again and again and again. At least people are speaking up so I can hear it repeated, same story with a few twists it seems each time.

It is a very horrible and unique experience when you realize 'this is NOT the alcohol...alcohol does not do this to me and has never done this to me...and then you know and there is not much you can do about it. ALL gay men are susceptible to this. The strongest man can be reduced to the level of an infant-which is why you must always be on guard in situations where you are about to put something into your body, to ingest something, food or drink-especially drink. At a bar, at a party, with someone just the two of you. I learned the hard way-which is the usual way I learn things unfortunately.

Actually the worst part for me, the part that hurt me the most, was when I was still fairly incapacitated and I was dumped out of the car into an intersection and left there. Just dumped out into the street like a bag of trash. I begged not to be dumped out like that and to be dropped off at an actual place. But I was just dumped like garbage onto the pavement and left there.

And I talked to people and nobody ever saw the guy before or after. Probably from another city.


I would not be surprised given how society is, that it would be much more difficult for a black man, gay or straight, to reveal this kind of thing. What with that toxic hyper-masculinity and all being worse in the black community.

 

Fondren

This is an area in the city that's sort of like the Arts District.You're likely to see things that have been turned into artwork like firehydrants and stuff like that.This is where I was born and lived during the early part of my life .Well,partially anyway.My parents moved all over a lot.

Duling Hall is in Fondren as well.It was once a school,now they book mostly national performers,but you can still catch locals here too.And there's a bar in the back!


There's always something going on there.The first thursday of every month is Fondren First Thursday,where you'll see vendors of all sorts,people hanging out,bands/duos/ensembles,performance artists,flash mobs,dance battles (my favorite thing),and anything else exciting.


There's another place I'm really into that I've only started frequenting this year called the Offbeat.It's a record shop (like,literal vinyl records) and they also sell toys,action figures,and comic books.The OB hosts a lot of events too such a music performances,comedy nights,and movie viewings.The last thing I went to there was a viewing and discussion of Do the Right Thing with a panel (we talked about how it related to modern issues,yadda yadda yadda).
The owner is a dj,so there's always good music playing when you go.The environment makes me feel at home.I finally found out where all the black hipsters are .

Well, I was a lurker for a while. It took me a bit but I jumped in. And I have absolutely no regrets. The community (and it really is a community @Nick Delmacy ) that is fostered here is pretty amazing.

But to experience it, you gotta jump in first. And the only way to strengthen and improve community, at least initially, is to offer carrots.

So, for me, no, you shouldn't be able to see uploaded photos, profile pages and profile posts if you're unregistered. No, you shouldn't be able to comment without registering. These are all privileges of membership. It shows some mild investment.

At the same time, no, more restrictions aren't needed for lurking members. Instead, the requirements to get that last, enviable carrot (*gasp* locker room access) is clear and reasonable. The fact that most members post pics to reveal themselves in the locker room adds to the intimacy that's already present. You're uncloaked. You can truly say, I see you.

(As an aside- I have to say, I'm still shocked that there are so many devastatingly handsome men on this site. It's a bit obscene really. And that's just their faces. Stick around long enough and you realize that dudes here are friendly, funny, intelligent, interesting, can cook, have doooope interests etc etc. Damn. CA dudes are the truth. True talk. So there's another carrot for you forever lurker- my shades come off in the locker room.)

I feel like I still lurk a bit. Right now is a very busy time for me, so I can't contribute or make as many threads. But that should improve again in the next week or so.

Side note though: When the news first broke, all of the Blacktivists in my timeline were sharing the links and screaming about #BLM Modern Lynching...Once it came out that the guy was gay...crickets.

 

Stories like this reminds me about why I do what I do professionally. HIV is a subject that few people wanna talk about. And I feel that when you do, people either think it's "political", doesn't affect them, doesn't matter, or it's rather glibly 'whatever'.

This really hit me hard since I've heard it so many times;

There are a lot of Russells out there, in every community. HIV is real among gay, bisexual and transgendered black men of all ages and social statuses.

We are ALL at high risk of contracting HIV. ALL of us. Know it and get tested regularly, regardless of whether or not you're in a secure relationship. It's important. Get connected with a medical professional who cares about you. Ask questions, including about PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). And talk about it with dude(s) you're sleeping with.

The first step in fixing the problem is to become educated. @Rico you've done a tremendous service to the cause. Cheers!

This speaks to me on so many levels. In my professional life, Friendships and Romantic life. In making friends when the person/people begin to mirror the friendship I automatically start to pull back eg making excuses not to meet up, disappearing for months leaving txts messages and calls not replied and not returned, avoiding places I might run into them. In my professional life I would strive to do a good job, when I do and praised for it I begin to mess up the next job or show less interest. If my good work or friendship goes unnoticed or unrequited I continue to push on even harder until it does then I repeat the Self Hating cycle.

I bet #BlackTwitter gonna be silent on this. I was reading some of the fallout from the Justin Timberlake tweet and I was thinking most of the responses were extremely hyperbolic and I think at least 1/2 of the people commenting were jumping on a bandwagon and don't actually know/understand what Cultural Appropriation is, and how it fits into the larger narrative.

I also think Whoppi, clearly doesn't give a shit and what call it like she see it.
