I don't understand why Hoteps and other Pan African folk cant understand this. Pre-colonial Africa as well was as pre-colonial America cultures had very open views of sexuality. Its not until colonialism that they had come to accept limited views of sexuality.
It seems we still want to view Ancient Africa through a colonial mindset.
But the new generation is waking up.

I liked Part 1 and Part 2. All my closest black, gay and masculine-leaning male friends all come from Cypher Avenue. I am glad we all have been able to be vulnerable with each other. We gotta support each other for real. At the end of the day we are getting judged everyday by those inside & outside our community. We are getting killed left and right in USA. I am NOT my brother's keeper. I am my BROTHER.

This is gonna sound bad but I'm just gonna say it. You know alot of black gay men ain't got an iota of sense. Black gays will worship homophobic ass nigga as long as he look good and fem black gay men will worship women in pop culture they wanna emulate it doesn't matter if they're anti-gay or not.I-Stay-Woke, Nigerian Prince, Dante and 1 other person dapped this. -
My younger cousin is gay.I've been sure since he was around 7. Me and him have always been close. I wanna ask him about it,and let him know he can be open with me about that, but at the same time,I don't wanna pressure him. There's even a guy I think he likes and who might possibly like him back( they wore matching blazers to their graduation and looked like two grooms),but still,I'm trying to not be invasive.
When he was little,he was always up under me and following me around and trying to stay at my house. He was basically in love with me,kinda like how some girls are in love with their dads. I always feared that if my extended family knew back then, they'd say it was my fault if they ever find out about him. And even now,I don't wanna outright ask him so that if he hasn't come to terms with it, in his confusion ,he won't be able to make the excuse that I influenced him.
We still have a pretty good relationship though. He just graduated from high school, and turns 18 this month,so I hope that'll be something he embraces and we can bond over soon. I wanna talk to him about dudes and whatever, but I also wanna give him sexual health advice and safety tips ( like don't meet guys for hookups anonymously) that he won't really get otherwise.ControlledXaos, Nigerian Prince, SB3 and 1 other person dapped this. -

As I've stated in a previous post, I'm so happy that Gen-Z has an artist as open as Lil Nas X. I find his bravery to do the things he's done and not back down from the backlash to be quite commendable, even if I disagree with many of his recent aesthetic and artistic choices...

I just appreciate this dude for coming out yet not instantly becoming more "gay" in the aftermath. There's still time for him to wear dresses and dye his hair blonde like Frank Ocean, but for now he's still seems to be the same fun loving, weed smoking, hip hop guy he was before coming Out.

Im pretty checked out with "message" and topic of the video as a whole.
The Make America Great Again hat, the supposedly "hood" black man. Both extreme examples of the way American black and white people stereotypically view each other. We get it!!!
Not only do we get it, we have gotten it for some time. The reality is very few people care. You are not going to get racist or white people that enjoy white privilege to change their mind, just like you are not going to get black people who feel like victims and blame everything on white people to change their minds.
I get so tired of people saying the statement, "lets talk about it, lets promote dialogue, lets take a seat at the table and discuss". People have been talking about racism FOREVER. Until there is a tangible plan in place, action, a new standard with results you can see and feel, MUTHA FUCK A TALK.

Yo. First off, I think it's great that ur doin this! Grown azz gay men bein open and honest, keeping it 100 is sorely lacking. I get it. It's very difficult to be/feel sooo marginalized all of ur life, and not develop a few chips and guards. It broke my heart hearing the level of guard you have up, specifically pertainimg to Nick. He's never made a secret of how hard it is to get you out of the house. It sounds like ur biggest issue is vulnerability. Ur a dope azz dude, no reason for you to be letting the past keep standing in your way man. Making new friends is def difficult in ur day to day, but the last vacay I went on was w @ControlledXaos @klothesminded @questforknowledge, and I met them all here on CA. That's why Im always trying to push you guys into being active participants. The group of active members you guys have built ARE NOT the killers,or bad guys. Camaraderie is not impossible. My closest friend is a str8 dude, and Im the 'best man' in his wedding. Str8s can actually be aight these days man. Ijs, I really appreciate you for doing posts like this. I know it's much easier said than done, but please dont feel like ur only opps to build genuine relationships w good gay guys ended at 30.

Lancer, thanks for the links, I enjoy all kinds of music and it's always great being introduced to new artists and composers. I realized after reading your post I probably don't listen to music to relax so much as order and structure my thoughts. Outside of work, it's mostly jazz and classical when I'm in my own environment (home). Three pieces I find myself listening to in off hours to mentally rearrange
But at work I usually use music as a wall to keep the nonsense and bs of childish coworkers away from me (it's not slow but it "relaxes" me in keeping me from growling at the fools on the job)

As strong as many heterosexual Black men claim to be, why are they so threatened the gays?
I just don’t get it.
In a world where heterosexuality permeates literally every crevice of every culture for every Black person all over the world, we still see this crippling fear of homosexuality.
It’s as if they view becoming gay is as transmissible as the Delta variant of COVID-19. No, actually in their minds being gay is even more transmissible since they believe you can catch it from merely seeing a gay person in a music video.
Where is my rant coming from, you may be asking? Recent events, of course. In case you’ve missed them:
During a recent Rolling Loud performance popular rap artist DaBaby started an unusual call-and-response with his audience where he asked them to put their cell phone lights in the air if they didn’t have HIV or AIDS that would “make you die and 2, 3 weeks” and if the fellas didn’t “suck a nigga dick in the parking lot.”
Many people in the audience have since given their testimony that this rant was unnecessary and not even celebrated by the fans in the crowd:
After the backlash began, DaBaby quickly hopped on social media to give obligatory half apologies that only made the situation even worse for his PR team.
Then came the responses in his defense, mostly from fellow homophobic rappers, but also from the Black hoteps and the “preserving the Black family” types (who always happen have YouTube channel and/or books to sell you).
What is Tariq Nasheed (producer of the Hidden Colors documentaries) talking about? Lil Nas X, of course.
I can only imagine how much venom is quietly being thrown out there by Black men given how much attention Lil Nas X has received from his provocative and unabashedly gay music videos over the past year or so.
Not every Black man is what we would call progressive when it comes to homosexuality. They are when it applies to buxom bisexuals or “lipstick lesbians,” as they call them, but not gay men who they will likely never meet or intimately come across with in their lives.
Homophobia in the Black community is far from a new thing, but thanks to progressive LGBT movements, Black Creatives dominating their fields and the use of social media, Black bisexuals and gays have forced many of the outright bigots to hold their tongues.
However, like Trump supporters fearing that they’re losing their grip on the culture, maybe the Black homophobes feel the need to start pushing back again.
Although I feel that the dam has already broken and there’s no turning back to the way things were back in the 1990’s and earlier, many of these prominent Black men can still do a lot of damage to our already mentally fragile community dealing with so many other traumas and threats.
This brings me back to my original question, why are they so threatened?
There are no shortages of Black families out there. There are no shortages of Black children being born. Literally no one can become gay just by seeing another gay person in a music video or on a TV show…or even seeing one sucking dick in a parking lot.
Heterosexuality is still the dominate imagery in Black culture. The most popular Black television shows, movies, musicians, athletes and entertainers are all heterosexual or promote a heterosexual lifestyle.
Even if some men were “sucking dick in the parking lot” before DaBaby’s performance, how does that affect him? They still paid for their tickets to support him just like everyone else.
For the likes of Dr. Boyce Watkins and Tariq Nasheed, how does one music video released by “white execs” (that no one is forced to watch, by the way) somehow reveal a master racist conspiracy or promote sexual irresponsibility? Especially when we see thousands more examples of this from heterosexuals?
As Lil Nas X put it, “just say you hate people, musty.”
So what is the point of this blog post? Not much that we haven’t already discussed, to be honest. Just venting, I guess.
Many Black men feel insecure and threatened by homosexuality and nothing I write or say will change that. All I can do is live my life and try to ignore their intolerance that will likely continue as long as religion, ignorance and hyper masculinity has its grasp on our collective psyches.Winston Smith, acessential, jpo and 1 other person dapped this. -

Reminiscent of Fly Young Red’s rise to viral fame back in 2014 (wow, has it really been that long?), 21 year-old New Orleans based rapper, Young KSB, recently dropped his own anthem for the gay community, “Slob On My Ass.”
“‘Slob On My Ass’ is a remix I decided to do to a popular hit song from the ’90s, [Editor’s note: “Slob On My Knob”]” Young KSB told PRIDE. “I wanted to put my own spin on it and just have fun. I noticed a lot of my music was great but I never really had fun with it so I did this and it went viral literally as soon as I dropped the video. I’m completely overwhelmed by everything and God has been so good to me. I know the LGBT community will always love it and know I did this for them!”
I will neither confirm or deny if I personally partake in the art of butt munching…but I will say that it’s nice to be appreciated…hypothetically speaking, of course.
The kid already has an 8-song album available called “The Come Up” that was released late last year. It’s currently available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and many other places.
Whether your cup of tea or not, we here at Cypher Avenue hope for the best for Young KSB. As we’ve witnessed first hand, Hip Hop can be a tough industry for openly gay men to be successful with some longevity.

Rapper Taylor Bennett likes guys and girls and he just recorded a whole album about it
Chance The Rapper’s younger brother, Taylor Bennett, made headlines last year when he came out as bisexual. Now, in a new interview with Highsnobiety, he’s opening up about that experience.
The 22-year-old first came out on Twitter back in January 2017.
“Growing up I’ve always felt indifferent about my sexuality & being attracted 2 one sex & today I would like to openly come out to my fans,” he wrote. “I do recognize myself as a bisexual male & do & have always openly supported the gay community & will keep doing so in 2017. #ThankYou”
Reflecting on that experience, Bennett says, “I always say that [coming out] was easier for me, because I’m a rapper and I have fans.”
He continues, “I’m doing it for that kid that sits in the classroom, the one that has nobody to talk to and has no friends–that’s who it’s hard for. That’s why I did it, so all those kids can have someone to look into.”
“When I was a teenager, I felt like there was no place for me, and that’s how a lot of people just feel, period,” Bennett says. “So I just wanted to create a place people could feel comfortable.”
Bennett is currently finishing up work on his new album Be Yourself, which he says it about just that: being oneself.
“I’m writing honestly about my sexuality for the first time,” he says. “Sure, this music is about me as a person. But it’s also so, so much bigger than just me.”
Bennett says he hopes by sharing his story through music he can help others both in the LGBTQ community and the African-American community.
“We’re just now addressing these problems,” he says of society’s growing willingness to engage in dialogue. “It’s not just in the hip-hop community, it’s in the African-American community, and it’s worldwide.”
“I do think a lot of it is coming from the little fires that I’m starting to burn, and from artists like Migos and how they dress, and what they do. That is what’s inspiring the world to be themselves, because that’s what I’m going to do: I’m just going to be myself.”SB3, DreG, Winston Smith and 1 other person dapped this. -

Kendrick Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize for his album “DAMN.,” becoming the first rapper to be honored with the prestigious award. The album was described by the Pulitzer committee as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
Separately, The New York Times and The New Yorker won a public service Pulitzer for their coverage of the sexual misconduct allegations against disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. The Washington Post was also honored for its coverage of sexual misconduct allegations against Roy Moore, the Alabama Senate candidate.SB3, Nigerian Prince, mojoreece and 1 other person dapped this. -

One of our favorite Out Rappers, EarthTone, started his #52Tuesdays Series last month where he drops new music and video snippets each week in promotion of his upcoming project, “Gourmet.”
Featuring both original tracks and freestyles over industry beats, the new series reminds of that black gay musicians need our support even more now than ever before.
Back when we began this website, there were over a dozen Out gay rappers buzzing in the Community. That number soon grew to dozens with young musicians cropping up all over the world. Lately, however, it seems as if they are an endangered species.
Websites and podcasters that used to feature new music daily are now gone from the Internet. Even Frank Ocean has gone dark.
The buzz and attention that these artists used receive from the Community now go to the half naked web series actors/models on Instagram. There doesn’t seem to be the same enthusiasm.
Nonetheless, we’re still paying attention and will try to highlight the Black Gay Artists we like and feel deserve the attention.
Check out EarthTone’s full #52Tuesdays Series on his YouTube Channel: EarthToneMuziq
