I'm not surprised at all over this shit. In fact it's getting real old REAL fast. Muhf$kaz can't take a shit anymore without people gettin' in their feelings about it. I remember when I was in maybe the 3rd or 4th grade, and decided I was no longer going to stand up at the start of class for the Pledge of Allegiance (a practice that thankfully was phased out anyways by the time I was in middle school) and my {white} classmates, as well as the "House Nigg@z" 'bout took a shit on themselves. The teacher never said anything, if she did I don't remember.

This just goes to show, racism will NEVER end. Not in this country and probably not in any other. Black/Brown can't do SHIT without SOMEONE finding issue with it.

P.S. There are plenty of black folk criticizing him as well. You know "Red Bone" and "High Yella" don't count toward the Black/Brown Cause, for a lot of "folk".

I'm sick of this shit, honestly, and I hope he isn't gay. Black people worry about the dumbest shit.

However, having a girl on his arms after these rumors is too soon, too much of a publicity stunt/cover up, so I hope he just chills and does him.
But you know who would be a dope partner for him? Keke Palmer. She's silly and a little immature (on her off time) like him.

True, but it's like being black in the workplace, knowing that, unfair or not, you have to be twice as good to be get half as much. It's not fair, but it is what it is. I got so tired of the ms media trying to manufacture a hero narrative and make Michael Sam and Jason Collins out to be the new gay Jackie Robisons, when neither of them was as good as Robinson in their sport. That's why they were crash and burns. Sam and Collins didn't understand this so they allowed themselves to be hired actors in someone else's play.

Even athletes like Orlando Cruz and Derrick Gordon, who were more in control of their own narrative than Sam and Collins, didn't get the promised support. The media and liberals are full of shit. They encourage these athletes to come out and it will be peaches and cream and then abandon their asses at the first of flawed narrative. Tualo was smart and did it right.

Yep. The advent of these small HD cameras. It doesn't even have to be a phone. I'd be lying if I said I didn't mind the occasion peek at a dude but I'm not interested enough to want to stare.

But as mentioned, I don't see the need for people to share. If it's for your own excitement, that's one thing, the lesser of two evils, but to post it... That's really taking it too far.

And even if people don't mind being taped, you can't limit what happens after it's uploaded. 100 years from now people will be wankin off to our vintage porn.

This is dope...but can I say that I would have suspected heavily that he was gay if I was a student with him? Not that he's feminine, my Gaydar just goes off for him. Still, good for this young man. :salute:

I hadn’t watched a BMX racing event or an X Games in years. Honestly, while the sport embraces hip hop, alternative culture, I hadn’t seen to many dudes that look like me. That ended this week when I stepped onto an elliptical machine at the gym. Playing on the screen was World of X Games: Real BMX 2019 and I was introduced to Brad Simms

I heard a bit of Simms’ testimony but also got a chance to witness his BMX mastery. The stunts and moves dude pulls off is mesmerizing. Its obvious Simms has been around for a minute so I thought it was unfortunate that I hadn’t seen him featured on any sites or outlets that cater to Black culture. Due to this I felt it was my duty to feature him here; mainly because I felt his grit and determination is empowering.

Simms is currently a nominee for Street Rider and Video Part of the year, a Kia World Extreme silver medalist and the 2018 Real BMX bronze medalist and Fan Favorite. Check out the series of featurettes below (1st one is a must watch) and I hope his athleticism captivates you as it did me. Major props also go out to Christian Rigal as well who did an excellent job capturing Simms feats.

Sweden to reconsider deporting gay soccer player

Just hours before the scheduled deportation of Liberian soccer player Andrew Nagbe, the Swedish Migration Board has announced that it will reconsider his deportation due to "new" evidence pointing to a potential lack of safety for him in his native Liberia.

Nagbe was detained at Stockholm Pride three weeks ago. Last week an article in the Swedish publication Dagens Nyheter, Nagbe made the claims that he would be jailed, beaten and raped in prison upon his return to Africa. Homosexual sex is illegal in Liberia and carries a sentence of up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.

The news today from Dagens Nyheter is positive for Nagbe's chances of staying in Sweden:

The reason why the Swedish Migration Board stopped the deportation at the very last moment is because the new documents have been received in the gay football player's favor - which could ultimately give the 22-year-old a residence permit.

"The first is that his case has received international attention, including the BBC, and that his sexual orientation is now even better known in Liberia. Since then UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) has been informed about this and gone in with an opinion to Andrew's advantage," said Stig-Åke Petersson.

Some Liberians have taken to Twitter and other social media claiming that Nagbe's fears are unfounded, while other have said sending him back to Liberia now that he is a well-known gay person is sending him to "his early grave."

Twenty-Four-year-old Derrick Gordon, the first openly gay Division I NCAA player, has announced that instead of pursuing a career in the NBA, he will train as a firefighter in San Francisco where he currently resides. An enormously positive spirited young man, we wish the best for him in whatever endeavor he pursues.

The news came on his social media accounts late last month with the statement:

"I’ve had an amazing basketball career and want to thank everybody who has always been there supporting me every step on the way…But I’m making a change in my career…I will now be working towards becoming a San Francisco Firefighter!! I’m excited about this and looking forward to having a long career!!"

Just last March, Gordon played for Seton Hall University as a graduate transfer from UMass. His 6th-seeded Seton Hall Pirates were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA March Madness tournament in a 68-52 upset by 11th-seeded Gonzaga. Regardless, Derrick Gordon made history again by becoming the first openly gay player in the history of the tournament.

This decision to become a firefighter came as a big surprise to fans of the young athlete who, up until then, had consistently posted updates about his dream to become an NBA player. Four months ago, Gordon announced his move to San Fransisco and said the following:

"San Francisco in 5 days!! Ready to get out there and start pursuing my dreams to the NBA!! #Blessed"

So what happened between then and now?

Most namely, the 2016 NBA Draft happened…and, unlike NFL draftee Michael Sam, Derrick Gordon’s name had not been called by a team.

While not being selected was disappointing, Gordon still seemed positive and still hopeful. He continued to train and workout 3 times a day to be ready if another opportunity came.

He didn’t have to wait long, just one month later he was selected to play before scouts for overseas teams at the Las Vegas Combine.

I can say at the age of 24 I been blessed with alot in my life but alot of hardwork has come with it,and that’s one of the reasons I always smile…Now I have another huge opportunity this weekend at the Las Vegas Combine to show every scout what I can do…The wait is long over!!…Time to handle business!

On July 17th, Gordon announced that the results from the Las Vegas Combine, where he had performed very well, would soon be coming:

The very next day, Gordon abruptly announced his retirement from basketball altogether.

    So what happened?

Usually very transparent with his followers, Gordon has been unusually silent not only on what the results of the Combine were, but also why he suddenly decided to pursue an entirely different career. How long had he been thinking about this? Was this always his backup plan? Did he give up too soon?

Sure, we could probably just request an interview and ask him (and we likely will still try in the future)…but its more interesting to speculate for now, and the answers are likely self explanatory.

The clues are provided in the subtext of Gordon’s own word. On May 12th, over a month before the NBA Draft, Gordon tweeted this:

Again, notice how consistently positive this dope young man is at all times, even in the face of bad news.

But then he started posting vague messages like:

    - “Everything happens for a reason!” – May 18th

    - “I will never change of being the person that I am…I am who I am…And I’m happy with who I am…” – May 21st

    - “Only control what you can control…Everything happens for a reason..The past cannot be changed, forgotten, edited or erased; it can only be accepted.” – May 27th
Had Derrick heard whispers that his decision to publicly announce his sexuality had already quashed his dream to play in the NBA? The supposedly aggressively gay-tolerant NBA? The same pro-LGBTQ NBA that moved the 2017 All-Star Game from North Carolina due to its’ anti-Transgender bathroom laws?

    It appears very possible.

A couple nights before the NBA Draft, Gordon tweeted this:

Wow. If this is the case, I definitely feel for the young man. To work so hard for something and be totally looked over due to something as positive as who you love. On top of that, in coming Out, Derrick Gordon has likely helped more people than he would have in becoming a random 10th man on an NBA team. As recently as April 2016 he said this:

From the first time I saw his coming out video, I’ve been impressed and supportive of Derrick Gordon. As I shared back in 2014, I was emotionally affected by his story and how similar it was to my own in some ways. A part of me is even slightly envious of him as well. He’s far more progressed and open with his sexuality than I was at his age…and in many ways, more than I am even at my current age.

This (speculated) story of his NBA dream ending is (possible) evidence that his decision to come Out did not come without major consequences. But it appears that he’s taking it all with stride, enjoying his youth and social life, and is looking forward, not backwards with the support of his mother, friends and thousands of fans/supporters.

In his own words, days after deciding to become a firefighter:

“At the end of the day I can say I have NO REGRETS!!”

GLEN BURKE: The Black Gay Man Who Invented The High Five

I love this story. You really learn something new everyday.

    Film Summary

This short will explore the origins and nuances of the high five, bringing to life the unique legacy of the gesture and the story of one of its unsung originators. The filmmakers will tell the story of Glenn Burke and his origins as a baseball prodigy, his time in the majors and spontaneous "invention" of the gesture. Using this moment, the story then pivots to chronicle the simultaneous spread of the high five as both celebratory and political gesture alongside the professional and personal decline of Glenn Burke.

Watch Obama Help Steph Curry With His Jump Shot, Destroy Him In Connect Four
    Nicely played, Mr. President.

Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors may have both had a record-breaking season, but that doesn’t mean the NBA superstar isn’t above getting a little help.
In a video released by the White House Saturday, Curry got a little assistance from President Barack Obama on his résumé, a science project and even his jump shot.
But even though he president seems like he’d be a pretty good mentor, he wasn’t above showing off a little bit for Curry. After beating him in a game of Connect Four, he mimicked one of Curry’s signature dance moves — something Obama has previously described as “clowning.”
The video was released to encourage Americans to mentor young people as part of Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper“ initiative, ‪an effort the White House launched in 2014 to prepare youth for college and the workplace.‬

Sports journalist Bomani Jones had ESPN and social media in an uproar Thursday after guest-hosting the sports network’s “Mike & Mike” show while wearing a T-shirt that brilliantly mocked the continued practice of American sports teams using ethnic groups as mascots, specifically the Cleveland Indians.

Jones wore a shirt in the style of the Cleveland Indians logo, except that the team name read “Caucasians” and replaced the Chief Wahoo mascot with a blond white guy who has a dollar sign sticking out of the back of his head.

White America predictably freaked out on Twitter to say their feelings were hurt.

It bothers me that @bomani_jones is wearing a 'Caucasian' shirt…

Nice shirt @bomani_jones wore on TV. Now, 3 people know who he is. #yawn #whoareyou

    — Brian V. (@godogs44) April 7, 2016

I wanna see a white guy that works for @ESPN, wear a shirt that says "Africans" on national tv, without any repercussion.

    — e (@Efrisco_) April 7, 2016

The irony is obvious, as Native Americans have to deal with offensive images of their culture being paraded about by multi-million dollar marketing teams while these white people can’t even handle one satirical shirt without pouting or lashing out with more racism.

Sources told TMZ Sports that “ESPN freaked out” and asked Jones to hide his shirt. About midway through the show, Jones had to “partially zip up the front of the front of his hoodie” to obscure the image.

Despite the usual temper tantrums, social media response was overwhelmingly supportive of Jones’s statement.

I'm a big fan of @bomani_jones for a number of reasons, this is pretty high on the list of them ????Bomani Jones’s “Caucasians” Shirt Is The Blackest Thing That Ever Happened Today | VSB

    @elonjames @bomani_jones "all shirts matter"

    — jesseWilliams. (@iJesseWilliams) April 7, 2016

In a later interview with ESPN host Molly Qerim, Jones joked that he wore the shirt because “it was clean.”

“I really like the shirt,” Jones said. “I think it’s funny, it’s like the Cleveland Indians shirt. Exactly the same as the Cleveland Indians shirt with just one small change. That’s it.”

Jones said that the money sign behind the Caucasian “mascot” was perhaps the most telling. “I think the money sign is very helpful, because people still buy this stuff. The reason they won’t get rid of Chief Wahoo — it’s completely indefensible — is because they can still sell stuff with it.”

“This is the same thing that goes on with the logo for the Cleveland Indians, right? So to have a problem with the logo of this would be to have a problem with the Indians. But if you’re quiet about the Indians and now you got something to say about my shirt, I think it’s time for introspection.”

Homosexual Baseball Legend – Glenn Burke [VIDEO]

    Baseball Legend – Glenn Burke
    Nov 16, 1952 – May 30, 1995
    [IMG]

“He was real. He was athletic, clean cut, and masculine. He was everything that we wanted to prove to the world that we could be.”
    Jack McGowan
“They can’t ever say now that a gay man can’t play in the majors, because I’m a gay man and I made it.”
    Glenn Burke

Glenn Burke’s name was mentioned in the fifth season of the TV show “Crossing Jordan”. The episode titled “Thin Ice” focused on a star professional baseball player falsely accused of raping a woman. The character “Quentin Baker” would rather be smeared and imprisoned on a false rape charge than to be labeled as a homosexual. Referring to two real world athletes who were accused of rape, the character dialogue follows below:
Quentin: “Do you know what a locker room’s like? You know what they say about faggots?
    What they do to ’em?”
Jordan: “What do they say about rapists?”
    Quentin: “Mike Tyson got past it. Kobe was accused and he’s still going strong;
but Glenn Burke came out and he was run out of Baseball!”

Rape, drug abuse, domestic violence, gambling, infidelity you name it; All these things are forgivable in sports except homosexuality.

Glenn Burke is the person who is credited for inventing the “High-Five“…how? Well it was late in the 1977 season. Player and teammate Dusty Baker of the Dodgers was rounding third and heading for home (having just hit his 30th home run). The Dodgers were heading for a National League pennant. The on-deck hitter was Glenn Burke, enjoying his second season in the big leagues. As Baker crossed the plate, Burke raised his hand. Baker responded by raising his. The two hands slapped together and a bit of history was made. The first high-five!

Oh and by the way he also happened to be a masculine African-American man who was openly gay within the ultra homophobic Major League Baseball. He was the first and only baseball player open about his homosexuality. This streak was not broken until 1995 when Billy Bean came out of the closet.

Burke was a basketball and baseball star at Berkeley High in the late 1960s and 1970, remembered by locals mostly for his phenomenal hoops skills. The big money that was offered to him was on the baseball field. He quickly rose through the Los Angeles Dodgers ranks, to eventually be the starting batter in a World Series game in 1977.
Five minor league seasons in which Burke batted over .300 and plus he had exceptional defensive skills caused him to be heralded as the “Next Willie Mays”.

Burke felt the Dodgers management knew of his sexual orientation, but they would attempt to come up with a cover story. General Manager Al Campanis once suggested that it would be a good idea if Burke got married and even offered to give him a $75,000 bonus if he would get married. Al Campanis also offered to pay for a wedding and the honeymoon. Of course being true to himself Burke turned the offer down.

In 1978, his third year with the club, he was traded to Oakland. The Dodgers said it was because he had not lived up to his minor league promise. His teammates, feeling he had made good progress toward star if not superstar status, were angry at management for making the trade and felt it was really because his sexual orientation and his relationship with with Tommy Lasorda’s son.

In his autobiography “Out At Home,” written with Erik Sherman, Burke said that he felt his close association with Spunky Lasorda (nickname of the son of baseball legend Tommy Lasorda) and this was something Spunky’s dad could not tolerate. Although the rest of the world accepts the fact that Spunky was gay and died of AIDS, Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda is in total denial on both counts.

“The Next Willie Mays” took his hat and glove and went to Oakland, but did not enjoy his year and a half with the A’s. The team was struggling in the late ’70s. Also, Burke felt his secret was not safe in his hometown so he retired before the end of the ’79 season. The retirement was brief. He reported for spring training in 1980, but injured a knee. Right or wrong, he thought baseball no longer wanted him because of his sexual orientation, and he retired for good at the end of the ’80 campaign.

Glenn Burke opened up about his homosexuality in a 1982 Inside Sports magazine article “The Double Life of a Gay Dodger” and on “The Today Show” with Bryant Gumbel. Burke continued his athletic endeavors after retiring from baseball. He competed in the 1986 Gay Games in basketball, and won medals in the 100 and 200 meter sprints in the first Gay Games in 1982. His jersey number at Berkeley High School was retired in his honor.”He was a hero to us”, said Jack McGowan, former sports editor of the San Francisco Sentinel (a gay newspaper). “He was … real. He was athletic, clean cut, masculine. He was everything that we wanted to prove to the world that we could be.
His athleticism wasn’t the only thing going for him. Glenn had a great sense of humor, was a great dancer and was the life of the party everywhere he went. Although he remained active in amateur competitions; as with many athletes, Burke turned to drugs to fill the void in his life when his career ended. An addiction to cocaine began to destroyed him both physically and financially.

In 1987 he was hit by a car in San Francisco while crossing the street, suffering a broken leg and crushed foot. An out of court settlement brought him some money, but it was soon gone. He was never again the athlete he had been.

His drug use increased and his behavior became more erratic. The man friends once flocked to was now avoided by them. The big guy they once looked to for protection now became an object of their fear. He was homeless on the streets of San Francisco for a number of years often congregating in the same neighborhood that once embraced him. In 1991-92 he spent seven months in San Quentin for grand theft and possession of a controlled substance.

When news of his battle with AIDS became public knowledge in 1994, he received the support of his former teammates and the Oakland Athletics organization. In interviews given while he was fighting AIDS, he expressed little in the way of grudges, and only one big regret – that he never had the opportunity to pursue a second professional sports career in basketball.

Glenn Burke spent the last months of his life at his sister’s Oakland apartment. First diagnosed in January 1994, AIDS had taken his once magnificent six foot, 195 pound physique to a lesion scarred, 150 pounds. Pain and fatigue were now his constant companions.

A few old friends would stop by to say hello. But they all knew they were really saying good-bye. The man who greeted Dusty Baker at home plate in 1977 with the first “high five” could barely lift his arms. Glenn Burke died of AIDS related causes in May 30, 1995. He was only 42 years old.Glenn Burke’s story has now been immortalized in film. “Out: The Glenn Burke Story” is a documentary about his life and career (which is currently viewing on some local Comcast stations). With open and candid interviews from former teammates, you really get a true sense of who this baseball legend really was. A trailer for the documentary is below.
