Michael Bloomberg may run as an independent. He is a former NYC mayor and is worth only 39 BILLION dollars. They say he would spend at least 1 billion on a campaign, but probably a lot more.

    Bloomberg: I'm considering 2016 bid - CNNPolitics.com

Further evidence of The United States of Plutocracy.

Plus...which party will he siphon votes from? Who will he hurt the most if he runs? Does any of it matter/we are f@cked anyway?

Any NYC forumers have any thoughts/knowledge about him?

He's only considering it if Trump and Bernie end up being the nominee of their respective parties. Fat chance in hell of Bernie being the Democratic nominee so don't worry about Bloomie running.

I don't think it is that simple. He is going to have to act fast to get in at all, and fast may mean that things may still be very much up in the air. Also he mentioned that it was not only Trump, but Cruz, who could get him in. And Hillary is having more problems than anticipated with Bernie.

She's not having any problems with Bernie. She needs a little bit of a fight to sharpen her for the general election. As soon as Bernie gets to the south with people other than young and inexperience white college kids, he will know what's up.

If he did get in the race, who would he disrupt the most? I want anything that will split/weaken the GOP. Which is why I am praying for Trump to get the nomination. I don't believe he is electable. And if he is elected, we need to be destroyed by an asteroid a la the dinosaurs.

Bloomberg would probably take more from the Democrats but not by much. He's socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Coincidentally, in a parliamentary system, a party with that makeup would do very well in this country. I just don't think he's going to get in at this point. It takes money AND time to get a campaign off the ground. Primaries have already started.

He explained his reasons for not wanting Hillary though and I can respect his opinion. I would rather have another Democratic option really. But I will vote for any Democrat to keep the GOP away from SCOTUS even if I have to hold my nose to do it. Regarding what they are actually able to accomplish/dealing with Congress, I don't think Hillary or Bernie are going to end up much different. But if Hillary is hiding something about those emails and it blows up and f#cks everything up and gets the GOP in, I will hate her with a hellish intensity.

#1 priority: keep the GOP's theocratic crazy hands off of the SCOTUS.

Great. Another billionaire media mogul running for President. I wonder what his plans are to combat poverty, student loan debt, black youth unemployment and the war on drugs. I'll wait. Why can't Americans see they getting fu*ked over.

    Possible Billionaire plans:

    1. Poverty? lower the official poverty rate so less people 'qualify' as impoverished.
    2. Student loan debt? Students need to work more and pay their way like the billionaires did.
    3. Black youth unemployment? Lock them up-then they won't be unemployed-they can work for a couple cents an hour in prison.
    4. War on Drugs? see number 3.

Wow, some very strong opinions expressed in here. In the US, we can be described more as an oligarchy. We have more than just wealthy people governing us. THey are thee politicians who are deep in the pockets of the wealthy and corporations here in this country.

If Bloomberg runs...with Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders in the race, this is the narrative that Bernie will take. Our country has always been run by a small, elite few, heavily influenced by big business. Are you going to trust these billionaires from NY or lil ole rural Bernie? Bernie will be the next Prez if he is the Dem nominee.

And @RolandG, to dismiss Bernie Sanders, his candidacy and his potential to be the Dem nominee and even president, is no different than when folks did the same to Prez Obama when he was running. You cannot discount the fact that Democrats are only with Hillary cuz every one felt it was her time. We're not very excited about her candidacy. You cannot discount the fact that Bernie is sparking fire in folks, like Prez Obama did. No one is certain who either nominees will be at this point. Remember, it's a fight for delegates, so this could be a remix of 2008 all over again.

Please, Unless Bernie grows darker skin, he ain't getting nowhere near the same percentage of the black vote as Obama did in 2008 which means he ain't winning. I'm just pointing out the facts. Sure, his supporters are on fire but many of the same supporters don't even vote in local and state elections which are more critical, some would say, than presidential elections. Many are once-every four years voters and expect to be taken seriously? Really? And who made the rule that only younger voters matter? This country consists of people of all age groups. I'm so sorry that Hillary's voters don't spend all day voting in online polls about who won whatever debate. If Bernie should overcome all obstacles and win the Democratic nomination, I will vote for him. Just curious @Sean , what will be the narrative when Hillary wins South Carolina?

    1) I didn't say Bernie would get as much of the Black vote as Obama did. I said people discount Bernie just like they did Obama.
    2) Have you heard of the phrase, "drop off voter?" These are the folks that don't vote in local and state elections, but turn up at the presidential. These are the folks candidates generally tend to target (behind the tried and true independent voter), so saying that no one pays attention to them is ignoring a significant voting block.
    3) II didn't say young people were the only group that mattered. But they are a significant voting block, that again, you should not discount. Young people do not like status quo and Hillary represents that. Young people are engaged just like othger voting blocks, so they should be taken seriously just the same.
    4) No one said Bernie would beat Hillary in SC. When she wins SC, it won't be a surprise. The story that will potentially emerge is how much Bernie cut into Hillary's base in SC, ie black folks.
