    Good Afternoon Gents,

I'm heading to DC on Friday and staying until Monday. I've been to site see a few times but I've never really been to party. Does anyone know of any spots I should hit (restaurants, bars, club, etc.)?

I was just there for my birthday earlier this month. I recommend hitting up Poets & Busboys (various locations) and The Mad Hatter for great brunch and live music options.

Club Ibiza. Went there in 2009. It was fun!

Check out the restaurants and shopping center in Chinatown too. Went there in 2009. About all I can remember lol

Go to U Street for night life, there is plenty in the area . Loads of clubs everyone hops, there are even fairly cheap food places open all night, even a couple liquor stores if you don't want to spend all your cash on bar drinks. Dupont Circle is good too, close to the business district. U Street has its very own environment though.

Go to the Eastern Market during the day. Brunch, lunch, interesting shops like this used book store that looks like something straight from a Harry Potter film, plenty of bakeries.

DC is great, stay long enough and you'll definitely find reasons to come back.

Ibiza recently closed. Also, ctforbes mentioned Poets & Busboys. It's actually Busboys & Poets.

I rarely go out. There are a number of restaurants and bars along 14th St NW, particularly north of N and south of V St/Florida Ave. This intersects U which is also pretty busy between 7 and 16 Sts. (Howard U is just a few blocks north of U & 7th/Georgia Ave.) These spots usually have a lot of traffic and can be good for people watching. The "gayborhood" has sort of centered around this area and surrounding streets. It's not explicitly gay or anything and the area is popular with millenials and locals, in general, because of the close proximity of things (bars, food, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, Target and a few other shops a few blocks north at Columbia Heights), but some businesses sport pride flags, and there's gay sports bar Nellie's at 9th St and big gay club Town at 8th. As gentrification has spread, restaurants and bars have appeared on some adjoining streets too.

African King mentioned Gallery Place. The Gallery Place/Chinatown shopping center is somewhat limited. There's Urban Outfitters, Bed Bath & Beyond, a sports store and a few restaurants, but most of the interior is taken up by a movie theater and a bowling alley/bar. There are a few places scattered around the area west of there. There are a few recent additions a few blocks NW from there at CityCenterDC, a fairly new mixed-use development. It has some fairly high-end retail and a few new restaurants. Some foodies were hyped for these new spots Momofuku and Milk Bar. I believe the other American locations are all in NYC. Georgetown might be okay for a stroll, though it might be more of a tourist destination.

There's a strip of bars in Adams Morgan, 18th St NW beginning around 18th St NW and stretching a few blocks north. There's a few sorta wacky themed bars along H St NE but I'm not sure that many treat that area as a destination, more like something for those in the neighborhood. About a mile and a half south, there's a restaurant in the Eastern Market area named Rose's Luxury that's gotten really good reviews. I hear there are two gay bars popular with black guys. I think they're dives and I'm not sure what kind of crowd they attract: The Fireplace and The Bachelor's Mill. Generally, I hear people say their experiences there are interesting rather than particularly good.

So yeah, U St is probably the loudest place during the weekend. I've heard of a monthly spanking party at a certain bar that will be occurring during your visit, but I don't think that's what you have in mind.

I been to the Fireplace once, it's like saloon, a small bar that seems to be really about socializing. Only a few places there to actually sit & no music that I can remember It seemed to cater to a mature aged crowd.

I'm not a fan of Fireplace or Mill personally. Fireplace IS good for pre game because the drinks are strong and cheap but they only take cash. The Mill may be good if you like dancing but it's damp and old. I would add Number 9 its a primarily white crowd but it's pretty mixxy on Fridays and they have 2 for 1 drinks. Its a lounge. Cobalt is a club. Also mixxy but Friday is hip hop night and it's fun. They also have open bar from 11-12 I believe. Finally it's not many of us at Green Lantern but they have a killer happy hour special I think when i went I got like $6 top shelf.

If you're looking for black gay centered venues: Bliss Nightclub's having a party Friday night from 11-3. That's the only one I'm currently aware of besides the Mill, which does turn into a club after 10. The black gay scene in DC does a lot of venue hopping.

I went for Pride a few weeks ago. Busboys & Poets was dope. Other, than that, we ate/drank what was at the Omega Parties for the most part. &Pizza & Horrace & Dickie's near the H Street area were pretty good. Gotta say though that Pride was kind of a let down. Can't we party & get a little social enlightenment @ the same time?

I haven't been though it would be interesting to see. You can learn a little more by googling SpankDC.

    Question for the DC experts:

Been a while (a long while lol) since I've been to DC. There's a good likelihood of possible work assignment there. Where would a black arty/nerdy gay bro hang out off-hours? As much as "SpankDC" sounds intriguing, lol, I'm restricted in having "too much fun" by "optics" and the job. On the other hand, I don't want to be bored-to-death hanging with the overly respectful, buppie/bougie crowd, either.

Busboy & Poet is definitely one. Lots of gay black professionals and artists hang out there, The Fox Lounge on Connecticut Ave has a gay jazz show every Friday night. Nellie's, the gay spots bar is pretty popular and does a drag bingo on Tuesday night that gets a mixed crowd (not as many black people do the bingo part since the drag queens changed.) U Street has a ton of little dives that seem to cater to every demographic. Right across from Nellie's, also on Tuesday night is a little bar that does karaoke and has a large black gay following. Actually, most of U and H Street has little places where black gay guys of all stripes meet and congregate without it being a club or party type environment. And most of those spots aren't explicitly gay.
