Just wondering, how'd you guys end up here? For me, I was reading another blog (can't remember which one) and they did a response article calling DC out for something or another. They mentioned something abt them 'claiming to be' masc, so I was like, 'leme see if these mofos are REALLY masc gay dudes. Well I was pleasantly surprised, and Ive been rocking w these fools ever since.
@African King ? Some of u newbies... @redsai84 ? @bpaisle ? @Dreamwalker ? @Aejae (Some others of yalls names wont hyperlink)
was on an messy ass web site that i wont name but i got sick of reading same old dick this dick that threads. i wants to chat wit guys i could relate to more so i google black masculine gay sites and found this one
I think I came across an article once but paid it no mind so it wasn't until I saw one of the earlier podcasts in a Youtube related section. sidenote: Go to google and type in "discreet gay men" and guess who pops right up.
Side Note: This gif combines three of my favorite things: Cool azz attractive Black men, lots of alcohol and a lot of weirdness...
I can not remember exactly how I got introduced. I do remember being interested because it was supposed to be an all encompassing site about regular guys... who happen to like man... and it was not a site that was so focused on labels or social categories, because we know that there are so many permutations of us. So far so good!!
I think the first time I visited the site was when I was looking new gay black web series to watch and there was an article listing alot of the well known ones. Soon grew very disappointed lol....not with the site though!
Well I'm not really a newbie. I've been reading the site since the Discreet City days. I don't really remember how I came across the site though. It seems like it was so long ago. I was just King Lurker back then though. But now that we have the Boards, I am "delivert"!
Yes, I do believe there was an article from the site posted in a Facebook group I belong to about the gay characters on LA Complex... and that's how I found out about Cypher Avenue.
I found out about it back then when it was discreetcity.com Not exactly sure how,but I know it had something to do with me being tired of joining forums within which I couldn't see myself being masc and all. The idea was radical and controversial, especially since the black gay media realm was tightly controlled by self-proclaimed black gay divas. I lurked in the background for over how many years lol and saw them grow into this.
it was the podcast.. i was looking for a podcast with people throwing shade but ended up listening to Nick and Ocky talk about Game Of Thrones and the walking dead. It was nice to hear gay men talking about regular stuff not just Beyonce (who i love.. but you get what i mean).
I was reading up on the GayBros 'movement' a few years ago since I felt like it was relevant to me and my interests. Looking for 'black gay bros,' I stumbled upon CA in the process.
The only two articles I can think of is either the best video games of 2014 or the best black gay characters on screen. I know I ended up here via Twitter but I just can't point out which article lead me here. But I do know this! I was scrolling through this website, and I loved the concept! A website about a black gay masculine man's perspective is something I will support.
@ockydub can help with this too, he was the one that introduced me to the whole Gay Bros thing...Did Discreet City come Before or After them, I think we were here first if I'm not mistaken. Did they ever even start that website they crowdfunded for?
Ok.... In 2013 a lot of articles and blog posts were coming out talking about Gay Bros which basically means masculine gay men. There's a subreddit for it if you are into Reddit. So these articles were describing the type of guy I felt I was... Geeky techy automobily. Being into guy stuff and less about stereotypical gay stuff like divas fashion and tight ass clothes.
We came first I think but they got notoriety because of reddit and because they were white and the white fem gays in the media were upset with them.
I came across it by doing several black gay men's blog searches then I stumbled upon discreet city in late 2011 or in early 2012. Been rocking with them ever since.
I was in grad school a few years ago working on a paper, had an A-DD moment and did a Google search. At the time, I was in that lonely space black grad students find themselves in sometimes, and was seeking out an online community of sorts. Google directed me to CA and I've been here since.
I think I discovered CA because it was probably linked to another site. I remember reading the posting and then scrolling down to the comment section and I was immediately hooked. The comment section use to be so serious.
OH NOW I REMEMBER LMAO (all late and shit lol)! I was on Twitter and I don't know how, but I seen a link to an article on the type of dudes you'll meet in your life. And it was this site. It was funny as hell and I hate that I'm sort of the skinny bitch. The only differences are I don't "walk," I don't throw shade, I don't go to the mall (I had to read the article again lol), I don't like making enemies, I don't make YouTube videos, and I don't fucking wear eyeliner! Nick really ? If you see me, you might think I can fix your computer, but yeah that was the article that made me a lurker and then it was after listening to the podcast on the tops that made me want to join the site.
The comment section pulled me in too.Sometimes on DC i would read a paragraph just to get the gist then jump straight to the comments.
Back in high school before I was out, I would spend a crazy amount of time looking up gay stuff on the internet. I came across this site (well DiscreetCity to be exact) and absolutely loved it. However, most of the advice could not be used because I was a closeted high school kid with the fear of being outted. Now that I'm out and in college, this site is now so much more useful and it's gotten even better.
