I'm watching this movie called "Carter High" about a real life Dallas, TX high school football team. The movie is not that great but there's plenty eye candy and football.

This made me think of one of my favorite football movies ever, "Remember The Titans" starring Denzel Washington, Wood Harris and Donald Faison.

List (or post photos and/or trailer for) your favorite sports themed movies or television shows...it can be any sport and any genre...

Although it seems downright Disney Channel by today's standards, still my all time favorite from childhood on
    [IMG]
The first major Hollywood movie that showed how teens and tweens really talked when adults weren't around and the crap that parents put their kids through when forcing them to do sports they didn't like.

    Some other oldie but goodies

Since @DreG threw in a TV show,

Even though the show was pretty good fir it's time, unfortunely TV and Hollywood learned nothing from the writing, and we've gotten a shitload of dreadful "white savior saves black teen/college athletes" dreck ever since.

More recent would definitely be "Creed." So well acted and directed,I think it's a textbook example to the rest of Hollywood of how you do revamps and reboots.

See that's how I know you my generation homie. I actually started to list Slap Shot and North Dallas Forty, but I already send people to Google and Wikipedia enough around here Plus North Dallas Forty sounds to younger ears like some drug-dealing criminal rival of the Bloods, Crips and Gangster Disciples. Lol

Indeed! I think it's fitting that you send the young'uns scurrying to Google and Wikipedia. Admittedly, your knowledge of contemporary pop culture is probably much greater than mine. As for me, when folks on the site start throwing around pop culture references, more times than not I find myself thinking: "Where have I been? Why don't I have any idea who/what these folks are talking about?" lol

I liked North Dallas Forty...but even at the younger age I hated the homophobia in Slap Shot. I don't know why it stood out for me so much in that one? Maybe because my neighbor friend loved it for that reason and went on and on and on about it lol?

@Nick Delmacy ..you...Nick Delmacy...do not like to watch football?
    :mindblown::khart2:

I also liked 'Coach' and remember 'The White Shadow'-had to look up the name I had forgotten it. Did not watch that one much.

'Semi Tough' was ok but Jill Clayburgh was not believable as that character. And Burt says the 'N' word. But it had Lotte Lenya(famous for being Rosa Klebb with the deadly shoe) and poked fun at the new age movements so I liked it for that. And the hot naked guys-just like North Dallas Forty lol.

Jill Clayburgh? "Rosa Klebb"? Lord, throw in Bruce Dern and Susan George and we've totally moved this thread to a retirement community in Boca Raton.

    Before "Space Jam" there was

And if we are going to go old, 'Kansas City Bomber' (Raquel Welch is a bad ass in this film) and 'RollerBall'!!(James Caan)-speaks for itself.

    These were great!

    Also 'Hoosiers'(Gene Hackman) for basketball.

Modern? 'Hit The Floor' only because it has the Gawd who is Robert Christopher Riley in it. Possibly one of the most handsome hottest men on the planet!!!

Thank you to whomever posted him here on Cypher Avenue since that is how I found out about this Gawd.

Rollerball? I think Nick's intent was citing "real" sports. In that case, you can throw in The Running Man and Death Race 2000 (original) lol. And we end oldskool visit with "Widcats" which gave us Wesley Snipe and Woody Harrelson hotness in pre-"White Men Can't Jump" years (Woody indeed).

^^ Well he did say any sport, and rollerderby is a real sport, and Rollerball was a sport-just set in the future. What about American Gladiators, etc.?

How about surfing, is that sport? Swimming? Swimming is at the Olympics, right? So add in Lifeguard(Sam Elliot) and Point Break(Patrick Swayze, Keanu). Also Endless Summer which is REALLY old back in real WP days.

    * I had to look it up...surfing is a sport.

Why hasn't there been a good golf movie? hahaha.

    Tetherball movie?

Some that people didn't mention yet. The Sandlot, Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory, The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore I liked. The Benchwarmers I liked.
