I do not get going to the Cinema with my friend Gay or Straight and leaving a seat between us,why?
I came to the cinema WITH YOU to spend time WITH YOU, then I would leave a seat btw us for what!?! If I go to the movies with my friend we sitting close, no seat btw us. I would want to say something to you during the movie, I would want to eat your pop corn after I have finished mine in 5 seconds. So Hell NO! we sitting close.

The way the heteronormative world has masculinity set up has allowed the male/female double standard to be stretched too much.

I get if a man has personal, non-homophobic preferences with getting a massage or going to the doctors or being naked in the locker room.
But with this bs and other double standard bs, it's going to get to a point where saying hi, exchanging money, or even working in the same job environment with another man is some "gay shit". We then would just need to cancel out male babies through abortion and cease to exist...smh.

This seems like one of the most easily apparent examples of toxic femininity you've mentioned. I'm guessing Out justifies it as toxic masculinity influencing feminine attitudes or something, which I'm sure is possible in a roundabout way in particular situations, but this seems like a clear case of women placing unreasonable and unfair expectations upon men due to traditional feminine standards, specifically black men since the characters said it may be more accepted if the guy were white. I guess women get away with it since straight dudes get turned on by the idea.

My friend used to do that in high school. I instinctively did that when first seeing a movie with a white college friend. He basically said, "What are you doing?" and looked at me funny, asking why I'd sit away from him. I moved closer and he joked that I was being weird.

I get that. I saw complaints about this week's Black-ish because Dre got emotional about having a male masseur. Some felt the jokes were lazy or kinda old-fashioned. And shows still occasionally do discomfort with prostate exam jokes.

Great post, I love these short clips, tight and focused and appreciate your ability to draw larger thoughts about our place from common observations.

My partner and I always sat next to each other in the movie theatre. Then someone told us that it was a sure sign that you were gay if you sat next to each other - and there were only two of you. So we started checking out the seating in the theatre we went to in the small town where we went on weekends. We lost count but my guess is was about 50/50. First thing we noticed though was there were a lot of pairs of men who went to the movies. We decided we could draw no firm conclusion, but this one - folk will make their own judgments according to what they've been told about a situation. So if some one says guys who sit together are gay, then they will be gay. But if they never hear that then they will just be two guys sitting together. And most will never pay it no mind.

Except when we went to see Mamma MIa (not my idea, for real) and as the theatre lights went out we realized we were the only two guys in the theatre - and we were sitting together.
