I think everyone should know at least two languages.

Looking back, I wish I would have been forced to learn a second language while I was learning English. Regardless, I'm enjoying the process of learning Spanish in my adulthood. It exposes you to an entire new world and culture--especially when you travel.

The most difficult thing about learning a new language is not having anyone to practice with. Also, not living in an environment that forces me to speak Spanish is what works against me.

If anyone else is learning Spanish (or fluid), feel free to reach out to me if you want someone to practice with (or to help, if fluid). Hell, if enough people are interested maybe I'll start a new thread dedicated to sharing Spanish learning resources.

What language are you learning and what methods have helped you most in your journey to learning a 2nd language?

I love language learning. I started learning Chinese in college and lived in China for a few years. I've been back stateside for a while, so my language skills are a little rusty, but I try to keep up to date by listening to podcasts and reading some books. Voice of America does news broadcasts in a bunch of different languages so I have that app on my phone and listen to it occasionally. I also watch Chinese YouTube channels and listen to Chinese music.

Other than that, I've been studying Tagalog independently. There's a few good apps I use and I have the standard textbook. I also just try to watch Filipino TV and listen to Tagalog music. My Tagalog is still pretty rudimentary though.

Oh wow, that's cool. I heard that Chinese was one of the hardest languages to learn too.

I studied Spanish as my minor during college, but I fell to the trap of not having anyone to practice with. So my proficiency with the language has dwindled to just the basics in regards to listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

This. Took French in Kindergarten and three years of Spanish in junior high school and didn't have anyone to converse with. But did learn Latin roots in grammar school English, which helps parse through the confusion as an adult.
