FYI: If you know anyone looking for a gig, American Airlines is hiring trainee flight attendants. I know a couple Black gay men who do this and they dig it. Allows them to travel while also having a little free time as well.

I applied for positions like this for Delta before I knew I was going to attend nursing school. I got denied the same day I applied even with having customer service experience. I was so surprised but I do know that it is very competitive for flight attendant jobs especially for Delta.

All the best to whoever gets this position with American Airlines!

The way the male flight attendants be looking and crossing that with the qualifications, I'm wondering if there's a casting couch, so to speak. Lol

    It's complicated
This, alone, would be a no go for me. What type of applicant can afford to fly to Dallas and stay for 7 weeks with no pay? All reputable companies should compensate people for their time, even if it's reduced pay for training. But if anyone feels this is a good opportunity, more power to you.

Really? Why/how did they turn you down? Was it in person or some online application thing? Just surprised because I feel like every other gay man I know is a flight attendant.

Some of them want those travel perks and the social media posting opportunities that comes with posting photos of all of these locations. It's worth it for some people. The requirements are not that high. Speaking Spanish, French etc and knowing some CPR probably are good bonus skills to have as well for this.

But 7 weeks of no pay. That's almost two months. If I'm applying for an entry level position, what makes you think I have 7 weeks worth of funds while yall foo la la with me.

    MAYBE a month but damn.

You are absolutely correct with this. In addition it says you have to be able to move IMMEDIATELY to the city you are assigned.

    • So I haven't been getting any money for 7 weeks, paying for all hotel expenses etc out of my own pocket in Dallas.
    • And when I am assigned to a city (mind you I dont know yet what city that would be because im "assigned" it) I have to move immediately. Im assuming having all the money myself I need to move with.
    • So suppose Im assigned Los Angeles, CA and I know zero people there. I need to find an apt or stay in a hotel all out of my own pocket.
    • And I probably still haven't even started my job with the airline yet and when I do start it still takes a while until my first payday.
    What in the entire fuck?:ravetho:

Wouldn't it seem like those with money to handle all of this out of their own pocket wouldn't be looking for a job as a flight attendant in the first place? They must definitely be looking for candidates who already live in Dallas.

This is def for people who either currently live in these markets or have the funds to temporarily move there while training.

Still a good opportunity, IMO, considering you’ll get free training and then have the skills to work for any airline.

I mean they can parlay this into working at Delta eventually. I'm of the understanding that Delta or those exclusive celebrity airlines are the goals of the flight attendant career path.

    1. What's so special about Delta? Serious question.

    2. I know that airlines provide housing in whatever base city you're assigned/forced to immediately move to.

    1. IDK. Gays love Delta. Like flying Delta is better than flying with any other airline in some people's view. I go by who gonna get my behind there the cheapest with the fewest connections.

    2. True. They are going to put you in a hotel anyway so you'll not be home that much. Get an extended stay or a roommate who's also FA and you good.

Yeah I guess the gays do love Delta. I am one of them. lol. Its the only airline app I have on my phone. I have flown other airlines, but in my experience Delta has been the airline with the most consistent professionalism and comfort.

Online app. I applied then got turned down the same day or the following day. But yeah several men in Gay-TL are in the field. It is all about timing and it just was not meant for me I guess. I am on the right track now.

    1. Exactly. Except for a couple discount carriers... I'd just rather pay more.

    2. No, they have a 'base house'. It's a cheap place for them to rotate roommates w other FAs from their airline, since they're all gone/in the air most of the time.

    Ok
The few FAs I know have their own spots but they are established. But still ...starting out you not really gonna be at home much so extended stay America is fine..probably gonna need to sell your worldly possessions anyway to be able to flop it for 2 months with no pay lol

I think it’s short sighted to assume that all the people who would be interested in becoming a flight attendant are also destitute bums who can’t survive for a couple months without pay.

There are many men (especially Black Gay men) who get by far longer than that with savings, side hustles, gofundme campaigns or support from family and friends. Also add the ppl who have a job but want a career change.

For example: If a major film studio in LA or NYC granted me an unpaid 2 month fellowship shadowing a famous director or producer, I could see myself trying to make it work regardless of my current financial situation, even if it meant finding a Flop House on Craigslist. Hell, that’s basically where I lived in LA last year for the first 2 months.

I mean I never said they could not make it do what it does. If someone wants something bad enough they are going to do it. FAs definitely get perks, a third of the burden of travel is the expense of getting there. Without that hindering anyone, lodging and food can be cheap.
