Christopher Hudspeth from Buzzfeed trains like MBJ....this time. He's done Zac Efron's as well.

Now I am low key side eying this thing because he's already in pretty good above average shape. 30-60 days of him working out and watching his diet would put him right up there with some mid tier IG thirst traps we all love.

    However, I can't hate.

This man looked good beforehand. If I put down the Oreo for a month plus 3 years, I could look like this.

You can read the article that goes with the video here.

    Also, his trainer Corey Calliet...:feedme::whew::whoo:reallynow

You know damn-well buzzfeed picked up the tab/cut a deal with the trainer hahaha. It's good publicity for him.

I hope oh dude stuck with some of the workout. Maybe not the whole thing to the max but at least a good portion and intensity. He looks good even after only 30 days.

I wish I had the time and money to fully throw myself into fitness the way I want to

Damned straight. Hell these mofos be doing multiple challenges for 30 60 days on Buzz feeds account. Shit I would too.

"even though I finished this workout Imma eat jelly donuts for lunch for 2 months and then pitch another one of the celebrity workouts e to cover. Lemme get to this theater so I can catch these previews to see who's gonna be the one to use by sprang. "

This! I have a plan but need to prioritize other things things first so I can free up time later
Not looking forward to Two A Days but that's what it is gonna take for me to get to my goal

Don’t really need a paid membership per se, just personal space and time. Got my (decidedly modest) results this summer from Pinterest pages:

A lot of people think of Pinterest as the social media platform for old ladies with cats, but I swear I’ve gotten way better workout info on there than the last 20 years of (every-issue-interchangeably-the-same) Men’s Health

You know, if Pinterest was porn friendly it could replace Tumblr.

I actually have a dormant page for clothes that I still get people following and pinning. I should get back into it. It's a good site for info graphic content like recipes, workouts, fashion, cosplay tattoos etc

No hate or side eyes on my part. Bruh got some impressive results. Shit, I wish I could afford MBJ's trainer. I'd never wear a shirt. Ok I'm exaggerating but you get the idea.

Since I wrapped up on my last freelance gig I've fairly easily cut my calories down to 1200 a day. Seems like not a lot but the body adjusts pretty quickly so I def get fuller faster. Just trying to reduce my middle age spread from junk food eating.

As for the going to the gym like the dude in the OP, I go sporadically...but I have to admit, I've never wanted one of those IG muscle bodies for myself. Always seemed like a lot of work just for external adoration.

I guess it could help the self esteem but despite what the trainer says at the beginning of the video, a nice body is no guarantee for life improvement in areas like finance, career, dating, relationships or life in general.

Lastly, I'll echo @alton and say videos like this reinforce that article I wrote about my view on these black personal trainers. They always seem to "transform" naturally skinny men into skinny toned men. You rarely see a man with excess body fat "transform" into a lean muscular man. It's always these high metabolism men who lose weight easily without trying, not men who gain weight easily.

Why Most Black Male Personal Trainers Are Actually Full of Shyt

I do it mostly for me, tho...true to form, even when Im in nice shape I still get no outside admiration so...eh. It makes for some nice pics, tho LMAO

Yeah I don't think getting in shape is going to dramatically increase one's income. Unless he's about to open up an Only fans. And I'm guessing that Buzz feed check and journalistic integrity are worth more than that. Lol However being stronger and having more physical endurance does make every day tasks easier.

Carrying groceries in the house, opening tight lids on pickle jars, chasing a dog that slipped out of the leash... While not main reasons why people work out but end up being side benefits you don't realize you get from it.

Yeah trainers be on that 3 magic beans bs sometimes. While I respect and appreciate the trainer's knowledge and the staff writer's dedication, it wasn't some magical transformation. Weight loss is simple math: If you burn more calories than you consume, boom there it is. Plus, as other squad members pointed out he was already in pretty good shape. As an ole head, I've been working out a loooooooong time (25+ years). I could preach for hours about the benefits. Fact is, if you are consistent with any activity, you'll see positive results. Positive results will help you feel more confident. More confidence can be helpful both in your professional and personal lives.

Media is pretty effective in demonstrating how inadequate we all are. While trainers generally provide valuable health and wellness services, there are some who actively engage in the exploitation of human insecurities. Most trainer's aren't disingenuous folks. Some are selling you their knowledge with a side of hyperbole. Fortunately you don't need a trainer. You just need desire, discipline and dedication. Oh yeah....and math.

On top of that, it alters brain chemistry by decreasing anxiety, decreasing depression, improving memory, giving you energy for the day - It's amazing for the mental. And even if unintended, you're healthier lol.

can you share what one day on 1200 calories can be? want to see if this is realistic for me but separate from reaching fullness i have concerns about getting sufficient nutrients.

Yeah I'll DM you some information, I'm sure @Rico has some too (Apple slices & peanut butter, although I prefer apples & almond butter). Nutrients aside, I needed a reboot to re-train myself to consider realistic portion sizes and calorie dense foods (eating a whole pizza in sitting).

Remember, I'm a man of a certain age so I felt like I had do this to mentally adjust based on my metabolism growing slower as the years add up...Plus I've never been a gym rat or athlete, so its not like I have a consistent hobby that burns 1000+ calories a day. But all experts say that health and weight loss starts in the kitchen, so figured by not stuffing my face, that would make up for my inconsistent gym schedule.

    Another point for the squad.....

    GOALS SHOULD BE REALISTIC

Understand differences in body types before comparing yourselves to IG models and trainers. If you are tall and narrow your goals should not be modeled after someone that is more stocky. Said another way, a greyhound will never be a rottweiler. You also need to understand when the full story is not being told. In the original post, one trainer indicated he gained 20lbs in 4mos. I call bullshyt. I think his photo either reflects cutting down which makes muscles appear larger or ole boy juiced. Fitness dogma has long established that rigorous consistent muscle training can yield a maximum of 10lbs of muscle PER YEAR. On the weight loss side, you have to burn 3500 calories to lose one pound of fat. An average male burns about 1000 calories per day just doing normal daily shyt (i.e. heart beating, walking to mailbox, netflix and chill, etc). On a weekly calendar, that means that you need to run a 500 calorie deficit/day for seven days, It's an aggressive target. In order to do that, you need to avoid Dominoes, Krystals (White Castle for you northern mfs) and Dairy Queen and do cardio 3-5 times that week. Creating a realistic plan is an area a good trainer can help you with but you can also consult Google for free.

    RECOGNIZE GAME

By portraying himself as someone who has a secret, magic and QUICK process he taps into our human desire to receive "cheat codes" to instantly achieve end results that normally require time and effort to achieve. As a result, he's betting that we may be more inclined to enrich him by parting with our hard earned coinage. I don't get that mad at these dudes though because crime is almost victimless. Even if you didnt end up looking like bro, if he got you off your ass you received a benefit. And let's be honest, we've all been deceived by worse fukery on dating apps.

    ULTIMATE TRUTH

Remember, It's called working out because its work.....hard work. And even then, the work out is less important than diet. You can work out like the Hulk, Kipsain Kiprotich and Michael Phelps combined, but if your diet is fukd up, not one ab will you receive. Pretty bodies are nice to have but more importantly, fitness is about supporting good health and general wellness throughout life.

I pretty much co-sign Nick. I can’t emphasize enough what he says about cooking at home. I’ve been cooking more at home since summer off and on. Even salads at some restaurants can be just as defeating as burgers and pizza (looking at you McDonalds). You tend to eat better from your own cooking as you are conscious of your own movements. And by cooking, I mean from scratch not a can opener and can of Spaghetti Os, lol.

Except for potatoes or starchy tubers, you can practically remove steamed or raw vegetables from your calorie count. It would take you so much and so long to eat 1200 calories worth of steamed or raw broccoli, celery, cauliflower, etc. you’d puke before you get to the threshold. Put most of your large calorie allocation to non-processed meats or healthy starches (brown rice, etc.). One trick I always tried with friends to healthier eating was to get them to turn foods they like into salads. Got some leftover turkey and dressing? Throw it on a plate of arugula. Salad! Leftover Panda Express? Put on a plate of baby spinach. Salad!

Whether you do paleo/Mediterranean/Atkins/low cal/low carb....it doesn’t matter if you don’t develop the discipline to stick with it as a ***lifestyle change*** rather than faddish quick weight loss. Two famous gay Hollywood examples of low-cal attempts: Raymond Burr, best known for Perry Mason; and Paul Lynde of Bewitched and Hollywood Squares. Burr always had weight problems (he basically gave up the ghost by the time he did his second show “Ironside”, a character in a wheelchair which didn’t help his weight problem lol), but he used a low cal diet to get the role of Perry Mason. Paul Lynde was chubby as a youth but stayed on a low-cal diet most of his adult career. Like Burr, you have to watch out doing low cal and then going back to regular calorie intake as your body will adjust and you’ll gain more weight.

ppl find me to be an annoyingly boujie eater -- gotta know where my meat comes from, organic produce only, etc -- and i generally eat healthy with little to no difficulty.

i just wanted to see what 1200 calories looked like in practice b/c it sounded unsustainable in the long run for youngish adult males (under 45), either due to palate boredom, malnutrition, and/or ongoing hunger. sounds like a food binge and breakdown waiting to happen honestly. i know appetites can diminish significantly as one ages but i think that's most relevant for adults 50+. ppl can do anything well in the short term or sporadically, but 1500-1750 seems more sustainable for a sedentary adult male under 45 who wishes to lose weight, depending on height, body type, etc.

Yeah there really is no magic bullet. I’ve always said in these type of discussions be empirical. Experiment with what works for you and verify internals with your doctor and lab results. I had a coworker who was thin as a rail and whose diet was 70% grains (typical breakfast at desk: oatmeal, toast, and a bagel). That kind of diet would make me 800 lbs. My body wants dead animals and plants. I’ve never really calorie counted so much as adopted a lifestyle and tried to stick with it.

When I did the restricted calorie thing, I was in my early 30s and ran every morning. That was supplemented with a pots of green tea between meals (every 48 hours). I had the most energy in my life and was hella creative. I don’t know if I could pull that off now. Alvenia Fulton, Dick Gregory, and Malcolm X pioneered restricted calorie diets for black folk before white doctors and celebrities recently discovered it, so there’s decades of both medical and anecdotal evidence for its effectiveness. I would say pick a range not an exact number to stick to.

As mentioned a salad/veggies are pretty much free foods you don't have to even keep track of. But you do want to watch out for the lattes, rice, and plantains. Salad dressings are what can get you. I actually lost weight on McDonald's chicken bacon ranch salad as lunch for months. Just used only 1/4 of the dressing pack.

You have to eat foods that will keep you satieted. 1200 calories of pizza isn't going to be the same as 1200 calories of steel cut oats. If it's filling then you'll be fine but no one's trying to eat 1200 calories of Cauliflower and broccoli. Or oatmeal either for that matter.

If you're being granular, you can figure out your macro nutritients, Iiyfm.com. Based on your goals, you'd eat food that would match your macros and lose weight or gain weight. You can get examples from Eat This Much but a lot of people figure it out by trial and error.

Does any one keep a food diary and record what they eat using My Fitness Pal, Lose It, or something? I think that helps keep things in perspective but you have to be honest. It's hard to stay consistent keeling track but it's helpful. Starbucks and fruit juice adds up to the sugar and calories. You won't always have 479 calories in a serving of baked ziti but you'll have a range where it's acceptable to be off a small amount.

Yeah, I did this “religiously” (lol) between ages of 25 and 33 after reading Malcolm X and Dick Gregory in college (it’s why Malcolm X always looked thin like Obama his whole adult life, only without Obama’s smoking habit). I laughed when some white medical researchers “discovered” it as it had been a thing among enlightened black folk and since at least the 1930s.

    A big fat black dick
    [IMG]

    A skinny black dick lol

A lot of recent celebrities, like Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman, have turned onto fasting both for health and body image issues (that’s a whole ‘nother thread), but that’s nothing new under the sun. Compare photos of “The Fat Beatle” John Lennon in the 60s (his weight was among the reasons he wrote the title track to their film “Help!”) and how thin he was at the time of his murder in 1980 after being around people like Dick Gregory and macrobiotic nutritionists.

I stopped fasting started eating”normally” (2 - 3 times a day) in my early 30s and then back to gradual weight gain. I often think about trying it again, it was really more mental than physical, as you get used to decreased eating somewhat quickly. So if you are going to intermittent fast then you need to commit to it as a total lifestyle change or be prepared to fuck up your metabolism after you stop.
