If You Could Afford It, Would You Get Liposuction?

Let’s be real. As us men get older, we tend to hold on to the weight in the mid-section a lot more. And in a gay community with only two official weight classes (Bears and Twinks), this can cause some men to kill themselves in the gym to keep/achieve stomachs as flat as possible.

Liposuction. This is where all of that disposable income from not having children can come in handy, right?

Before you laugh at the idea as something only for vain older women, remember that the highest paid actor in Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had liposuction to remove fat in his chest area.

He says, “It was an aesthetic thing. I went in and showed the doctor, and he
said, ‘Are you crazy?’ I was walking around with my shirt off all the time, so
    I had it done.”

    Joe Budden, Pusha T
and DJ Carnage have all claimed that Drake got liposuction repeatedly to achieve his “sculpted stomach.”

And how could we forget when Kanye West admitted to getting liposuction in that infamous TMZ interview:

Celebrity drama and shaming aside, liposuction is an individual choice and can help both women and men with their self esteem by leaps and bounds. Not to mention the health benefits that can come from it.

I’ll repeat, there is nothing wrong with getting liposuction if it helps you feel better about yourself!

But let’s face it, this discussion is from a vanity POV.

As I’ve written about before, although I’m a slim to average built guy, I’ve never had a flat stomach or six pack abs. There has always been the last bit of lower abdomen fat that refuses to go away.

Hypothetically speaking, lipo could help with that.

Let’s hear from a fellow Black gay man on the subject. Infamous vlogger Walter Lee Hampton II spent $7000 on flank and abdomen liposuction and spoke about the experience on his YouTube channel.

So if you had $7,000 to $10,000 to burn, would you do liposuction to achieve the look you desired?

Yes and No. Meaning for me there are areas I would hit first like my forehead and the bags under my eyes. Then would come the lipo. I would be worried about any scarring and don't know if the trade off would be worth it.

In the case of Walter Hampton, getting lipo and continuing to look like his normal fluffy-muscular self seems like a waste of money to me.

If I get to a point were a diet and gym time ain't cuttin it I would consider it. In 2019 with all the other shenanigans going on body modification will become the new normal. Look at how many females going to get these new bodies and proud to talk about it.

I would like to think if I had 10k that I could spend on my appearance I'd also have the time to either work the fat off or have someone do my meal prep for me.

    I'd say no.

Unless I really did everything I could to lose fat and just had some spots that nothing I could do would work after say 6 months. Then I'd consider it. But honestly just to take shirtless ig photos it wouldn't be worth the cost to me.

Maybe like non surgical laser fat reduction. But with the money, I would just hire a good personal trainer, shop at whole foods and buy good supplements.

:what:If I was in a position to make money like that just to throw away, I wouldn't even be worrying about belly fat. #Black fat n happy.

Plus some, like dudes with belly fat. :yeshrug:

Ok. I will be honest and admit that I had this procedure before. I had liposuction when i was 25 years old and it did help my self esteem. I was a husky child and lost a lot of weight through cross-country later in college. But I could never lose the fat in parts of my body. I had the procedure, which hurt like hell btw, and I definitely felt more comfortable afterwards. My shirts laid a little flatter. Honestly, now that i'm working out hard, I can really see the definition more so it was worth the pain. I Can't say worth the money because I didn't have to pay for mine. Thanks to dating a doctor at the time. LOL Would I have it done again? A friend and I have been talking about it lately. He wants it on his lower stomach and love handles and I've complained about my love handles for months now. The pain following the surgery is what makes me hesitant now. I think I'd rather keep working at it in the gym.

I'm not interested in being out of commission, so I'm not personally interested, at this point in time. Hell, I have surgeries I actually need that I'm not trying to hear. But if I had The Rock's money to not only pay for the surgery, but to be able to go chill out to recuperate...maybe have a nurse or assistant....and get something done that's essentially permanent...why not?

I don't think it's a good idea to literally treat going under the knife like casually going to lunch, or using it w a goal of getting a 'gym body' while giving up your gym membership, but I'm not against it in general, and I def say that not doing it because of some 'stigma' is wack.

Just so you know, lipo isn't permanent. Just like the countless people who have gastric bypass and then gain the weight back, if you don't exercise and change lifestyle, the body will rebound to it's previous state.

Lol. I know lipo isn't permanent. I mentally went off into plastic surgery, in general, and was alluding to it being 'permanent' compared to a gym schedule.

Yeah I'm down for people getting tastefully done work that's subtle but not obvious.

Would Plastic Surgery Turn You Off?

If a dude wants to plump and extend his peen, transfer some fat from his gut to his butt and etch out some abs and it looks natural after recovery then why not?

I just don't like anything that's disproportionate. Extremely huge chests with Victorian Era corset waists on a dude look ugly to me as well as these guys who spend hours doing Squats for these basketball bubble butts but little quads and thighs. I don't get it.

Didn't you say you needed surgery on your feet? My brother recently had much needed surgery done on both of his, said he feels a lot better. Might wanna bite that bullet, bro.

It crossed my mind (hence the reason I got the inspiration for this post), but I'm one of them 'skinny fat' nikkas who straight people think is actually already too much on the slim side and actual fat people would slap me if I called myself fat in front of them. So even mentioning this outside of a gay space would illicit all types of side eyes.

However I'm over 40 with no athletic muscle memory (never played sports or really any consistent physical activity) so getting completely beach body lean & fit is probably not possible. So it would be nice to use liposuction to at least get me to base level after working as hard as I could to get lean in the midsection.

But I'm far too frugal (cheap nikka) to actually do it though. Also, I'm a tech head so I would be more likely to spend 10 stacks on computers and electronics than plastic surgery. Plus, from the way @RolandG describes the pain, makes me even less eager to do it.

Todrick Hall made a video that briefly alluded to how actors and celebrities get body work done to become and remain beautiful. Beyonce's Pretty Hurts also touched on the topic... It's something I've always considered. I used to be so thin, fine, and had my abs showing in college. Now lol, I'm thick and fine, and the weight is hard to keep off.

Improving my body is a big goal. That includes diet, workouts, and other healthy shit. Lipo and/or plastic is something I'd do to perfect my body and sculpt it exactly how I wanted it to be. I'd only do it after also having a better diet and exercise routine. And of course, if I had the extra money.

I would never get it. The thought kinda escapes me since Im only 137lbs but what if I was like 173 and overweight?

I think I would think about it but prefer the gym and diet. In the gay world...being chubby ia not gonna cut it unless you are into chasers or folks that like guy with a little extra.

I want my boyfriend to keep his abs so I can eat food off his stomach. I don't wanna have to climb to mount Everest to reach his navel.

The Rock is stacked.. he toooo muscular tho. It's scary actually...but a nice gym physique does raise confidence I suppose.

As a dancer, dance teacher, and bartender, I'm literally on my feet at all times. Would love to bite the bullet, but it's just too much time lost sitting down.
