He is a media genius. FYI... this video is raising money for "The Bail Project". The project helps poor people of color make bail and get out of jail.

I love the video. Funny how they hate on him but Cardi B and Meg did pretty much the same thing and it blew over as "female empowerment". Well I am loving this gay empowerment. I'm going to the gym today tooted up.

Also, I noticed in my gym someone put Montero on the Playlist. I heard it playing several times in the background.

While I love what this young man is doing, I'm not the biggest fan of 'shock value' in general. And it seems that he's been leaning heavily into that with each new release. I'm hoping that as he matures as an artist he shows us more than just sensationalism.

Understand the sentiment but kinda disagree or maybe just playing 'devils advocate'.
    • Was his first album sensationalism? It was conservative and commercial on many levels.
    • Bringing it forward, look at his recent Montero video which focused on his emotional self in high school... was that not growth from his first album?
    • Dude is making sure he features intra-racial (Black on Black) coupling. He obviously loves Black men, unlike say Todrick Hall or Ru-Pual. And the point of this video is to call out the prison industrial complex... hence him breaking everyone out while also fundraising for The Bail Project.
Also think about this... look at the straight artist like Kanye and Kendrick whose videos became more sensational as they matured.

    Just some thoughts.

Lil Nas X has never release an album. He released a song "Old Town Road" that, while conservative, had the "shock value" of a Black rapper doing country music.

Lil Nas X has never release an album. Montero, still unreleased, will be his first.

I agree that the subject matter of his music has been introspective, the imagery associated with the music has been heavy on shock (ie: stripper pole, lap dancing the Devil, french kissing on stage at the BET Awards, naked dudes twerking in a prison shower, etc). If he were a makeup wearing femme twink, I wonder if you would be as defensive of these antics.

Literally just 2 weeks ago you said "we lost one" regarding the way he's starting to dress at awards shows and magazine photo shoots.

Even as heterosexuals, Kanye nor Kendrick have been as gratuitous as Nas X, especially at the very start of their careers. They all have had wildly creative music videos, but the first albums and visuals from Kanye and Kendrick were less about shock and more about the music.

I say all this to say, I love what Lil Nas X is doing. The music, the marketing, the social media...He’s made nothing but great career decisions for himself so far and hasn’t even dropped an album yet. I just hope that he eventually steers away from the shock of a Nicki Minaj type artist.

Hey, didn't Nelly do a song with a country musician? Something is pretty strange about all this. It was like when Lil Wayne did that song Let It Rock...with the rap and rock fusion.

Even though I don't listen to Little Nas X exclusively, for some reason the song came out to me as being proud to be black and gay (or bi). If a straight nigga did this type of video with females (and they do it all the time) folks praise him.

I think I just personally like the idea of a gay Black man being sorta himself and doesn't give af about the straights and haters.

Now if we can get a fully, open and trending gay RnB singer...with videos of men between men.
