8-year-old boy wears drag makeup

    An 8-year-old boy named Ethan realized one of his dreams this week when a MAC cosmetics artist taught him the art of drag makeup.

    Florida makeup artist Joey Killmeyer has worked in the makeup industry for the better part of 15 years, having honed his skill-set in the likes of the Miss America pageant. When Ethan and his mother walked into the MAC store, he told Killmeyer that he wanted to learn how to do makeup like he had seen on the Internet through various YouTube videos, such as Jeffree Star's makeup tutorials.

    "When Ethan and his mom, Season, came into the store, I felt an immediate connection," Killmeyer told The Huffington Post. "He reminded me of myself at that age. It touched my heart that I was able to help him learn what he wanted to know."

    Ethan's mom, Season Wilwert, told The Huffington Post that she hoped her openness with her son's creative desires would inspire other parents to embrace the unique qualities of their own children.

    "Children need to be loved unconditionally, nurtured and encouraged to discover themselves through their true talents and passions," she said. "By doing so, and receiving the necessary support from parents, they are building confidence and security in who they are. We as parents should be our child's biggest cheerleader."

    If I had an 8 year old daughter, I would not have allowed this to happen because it is not age appropriate in my opinion. I don't have a problem with you dressing up and playing pretend at home, but I would not take my 5-15 yr old son or daugther to a mall's MAC counter to have makeup plastered on their face to be made up to look like a grunge-slut.

    To me this is a parent attempting to be friends and not a parent.

    I agree. I think this would have been better private. Or having just invited the artist to do it at home. I understand that this isn't something that's gonna be done daily I am for kids expressing themselves as well as trying things out.

    I have burnt and simultaneously undercooked a few pieces of fried chicken as a kid so I can understand on one level. But this is still too controversial in our society and I would not have wanted to bring more attention to my child in this situation. The parents can't get too butthurt about the scrutiny IMO.

    I just feel like decorating a child with caked on makeup (like they do in them pageants) is sexualizing children. Even though the child is innocent, society isn't.

    I have a big problem with this. Children male or female should not be putting on make up. Also an 8 year old boy shouldn't dressing in drag either. This gives ammunition to the religious nuts and others who think the LGBT movement is trying to "pervert" their children. This gets a big thumbs down from me.

    I think the parents know there child is "different" and might grew up to be gay and feminine. My problem is not the makeup. I actually thought that the child was a girl before I read the description, they did a good job on the makeup lol. My problem is having the kid be exposed to online and to the public sphere at such a young age. I know the parents mean good but society and other kids can be cruel. It can be hard for a 8 year old to understand why people are so mean to them for being different. It can be really detrimental to there self-esteem. Im not a fan of people (and celebs) showcasing their children to the public so young let them have fun in private.

    The makeup here is not age appropriate, whether the child be female or male. I don't think any child should be involved with sexually purposed makeup when it so easy to say no to.
