We're all grown round here, but we have all gone thru that crazy time called high school. Who were u in hs? Were u a total nerd? Mr. Popular? A jock? Gon head n share ur misery/great memories here.

I went to a small performing arts high school, so it was a much smaller bubble than most schools. I was 'popular' becus I did a lot (theatre, show choir/glee, dance concert) but I was just cool w everyone. I was pretty quiet outside of when I was on a stage.

Awkward, unpopular, tormented on a daily basis, nerd (with bad grades, what an oxymoron smh), artist, nature geek, ugly as hell, absolutely 0 self esteem. I don't miss it and you couldn't pay me to go back.

My high school wasn't like what you see in the movies. Being a jock or a cheerleader didn't automatically make you well liked or popular. And the nerdy kids didn't automatically get bullied unless they started shit themselves. Basically, people liked you if you weren't an asshole. I was fairly quiet, but I was heavily involved in school. Valedictorian, student council, national honor society, black student union, tv station, cross country. So I knew a bunch of different groups around the school and was nice to everybody. I got voted homecoming king my senior year. I don't think that made me popular in the stereotypical sense, I just knew a lot of people and didn't make enemies.

Well in going from middle school to junior high, our school district lines were redone to help balance the racial mix. In the process I lost friends because we were not going to the same school after 7th grade.

I hated "the new folks" so I was a loner. Before, I was known to be smart and gifted but I wasn't involved in many activities. I was in band but I was in C band because I hated my instrument, bass clarinet. I was just there for an elective.

This continued into 9th grade. Where I was out if band and just taking liberal arts electives. I was into Nintendo, Sega and computers.

I had a smaller crowd but I was also bland enough where I could fit in with everyone. The red necks, the grunge, the mid tier popular ones... I really wasn't into the jocks and cheerleaders. However one of my friends was on student council and I learned a lot about that. I didn't get my hair cut often, my clothes were horrible. Even for then. I just couldn't wait to leave.

Second semester sophomore year, after watching things from the outside, I give myself a makeover... Used my chrimuh money to get slicker clothes, hair cut was every two weeks or less. I was named branded, ordering ish from International Male. I was fly over night.

It wasn't a meteoric rise to the top of the social scene as that wasn't my goal but I do think that I was coming into my own. I was about my school work but wasn't stressing to be at the top of my class. I was in AP science classes and still played games. Didn't socialize outside of school but when it was at school everyone knew me. Junior year I got on as one of the class reps for student council for senior year, was on the newspaper staff and voted most likely to have their own talk show.

I learned how to play the game. I didn't like it but I did what I needed to do without losing myself. I wouldn't want to go back but if I did I would be playing the game at master level. Id even see if I could have made it into the elite Key Club (basically jocks and cheerleaders or non jocks and girls who were popular or attractive) just to prove a point.

Lol I was so mad after I got home and my mom was like "yeah they sent a letter to me letting me know." I was like... Well you could have said something! Lol

I was mostly with the Basketball/JROTC jocks but I was able to make my way through every group and clique. I was more social than I give myself credit for, looking back. Aside from the sports I did storytelling and plays, so that was my way of chilling with the nerds/gays.

It wasn't much of a cliche though. My hs was predominantly Hispanic and it was usually the Spanish speaking Spanish people vs the non speaking Spanish and their Black/Asian allies lol.

My high school was brand new when we started as freshman so we created the culture of it ourselves. Since it was a "magnet" school, it had several different high performance academic programs going on, so the majority of us were smart and various degrees of nerdy. I was in the drama club, the Christian club, the business club, did the morning announcements (we had a television/communications program,) was editor of the newspaper, was Treasurer of the SGA, and did JROTC for a year. I didn't really have a clique but would float around to different groups. I also made it a point to talk to the shy/quiet kids at lunch (mostly so that if they ever went postal they'd remember I was nice to them.)

I was that rare breed in high school I like to call a "popular nerd". I was known by a great amount of people but at the same time I was in all the AP and Honor courses.

High school my twin and I kept getting compared to one another. Very annoying. He was liked more. Other than that, I was painfully shy and was a loner. Had a small group of consistent friends from middle school (that I still know to this day). I was in Spanish National Honors Society, Spanish Club, Volunteering Program, Church (Acting & Singing), and I had two jobs at a grocery store (bagger/cashier) and at a barber college (receptionist). I just couldn't wait for high school to be over. It was not until 11th or 12th grade that my personality began to show more and I made more connections. I was ready for college because when you go to college, no one knows you and you have the chance to reinvent yourself. That's exactly what I did and I was very well-known amongst the Nigerian (and greater African) community of students at my college.

Bruh, the candles! I forgot all about that. Honestly, I think most people just joined because of the food we had at the reception following the ceremony. Never saw most of them again after the candles.

    Alright @SB3
I have been trying to get to this thread-all day since you called me out. It's been hectic dude.

Unfortunately, I had the stereotypical experience-uneventful and boring in MS.

:Ugly, skinny, shy, average grades, loved fiction (it was my way out of reality). I was picked on-didn't have older siblings. So, I had my cousins fight for me. Lol. Damn, it's embarrassing to mention and look back at your childhood.

As far as, HS-things changed because I went to a 7th day Adventist school. I still don't know what that was about. We were Pentecostal. Anyway, the kids were mostly Haitian and we just seemed to click. I started getting good grades, became confident, started to have some girls look at me. I started wearing better jeans. They have a "early enrollment" program here in FL which allows HS juniors and seniors to take college courses. Well, I was one of those kid and stepped on that campus. I became a new creature.

The old was shedding into the new. I loved it.

I went to an average inner-city public school after having only attended average black Catholic schools. I was an awkward, somewhat uncomfortable nerd that didn't like myself nor my peers much. I fairly easily topped the class because much of the work seemed manageable or even easy, aside from AP Calculus. I think all the honor students were mediocre there, partially due to senioritis, partially due to lackluster prior math classes. I had a peaceful, supportive family and home that was probably healthier than those of some of my more distracted peers.

I had a very small group of friends that would often come and go over time. I had fairly pleasant interactions with most of my classmates but often questioned their validity; they were often shallow or seemed to involve people who didn't care for me much. I often felt seen as a joke or a source of academic help. I often preferred talking to some of my funnier teachers during free time and after school. When hanging out with people outside of school, I'd sometimes think to myself, "I should have just gone home and just watched TV and played video games."

I think my experience would have been similar at almost any school because my issues were mostly internal. I had low self esteem, didn't like how I looked, felt weird about liking guys, questioned why I was attending church, wondered where my life was going, sometimes believed that life would be more of an ordeal rather than something to be celebrated. I was kinda a mess mentally. College was a relief in some ways, but things actually took a bit of a darker turn there. Despite my issues, I took better advantage of my high school's limited opportunities than my university's.

I find myself dwelling on the past alot lately but I try to keep this one short.

In High School and even before that I like to think of myself as an individual outside of the conventional stereotypes, but I'm sure if asked people that knew me then they would beg to differ. I had friends and acquaintances ( both old and new) that came from all walks of life and social groups and that's the way I liked it. I was a very independent person...refused to let the crowd directly influence any aspect of my personality, I watched shows, listened to music, and had interests typically outside the norm of an all black school but that never stopped me from interacting with people. Naive in many ways, nerdy, shy (around people I didn't know) but get me around the right group and I could command just as much of a presence as anyone in the classroom...but that was rare. My main fault back then( and now) was my fear of wide spread attention because of my sexuality I was extremely paranoid at times and cared too deeply of what other people said or not didn't say about me so I never tried to vie for leadership positions within the school.

Graduated in the top 10% of my class, Honor Society and everything so I was no slouch in the grades department..it's strange though because I honestly feel like as though I didn't apply myself as well as I could've in that area either. If I hadn't of got in my own way i probably would've had more fun in High School but can't turn back time..

LOL. This is funny, I was just having this conversation with a few people the other day. I was VERY introverted (still am) and a little socially awkward. Surprisingly, when I talk to classmates they SWEAR I was pretty popular! I was also into theater and yearbook staff. Ah, high school days. Good memories and shit, but I wouldn't EVER want to go back. lol

    High School was fun.

There were a lot of problems between the last vestiges of the racist Italian and Albanian students and the growing population of Black and PR students.
I was lucky enough never felt any of the racial tension but I knew it existed.

I, ever the odd duck didn't fit with most but was still able to get along with everybody, hung out with a small group of low level Juvenile Delinquents.
We weren't really bad, more restless and mischievous.
A Lot of the stuff that we did would be taken as all kinds of crimes now.

Sex was a huge and main component to daily life.

We went at a time that as long as you could pass a test and more importantly the final exam, they'd promote you to get you through and out, whether you were a performing student or not.
A teacher could sexually harass students AND keep her job.
Gym teachers still wore short, tight ball crushers.
We actually used tools and equipment in shop classes even after students and teachers had accidents with them (I wish I'd have paid more attention in auto class)

I also learned the valuable life lesson that no matter how bad I thought I had it in life at that time and after, that I really didn't.

I'm glad I can look back and smile on those times.

I was middle of the pack in High school. I was popular by people knew who I was and thought I was funny/kool, but I was not the dude who the ladies wanted to get with. A friend was all I was considered to be. High school was awesome tho...

Well high school was interesting....I really didn't fall into a specific clique, I kinda fell into multiple groups. I was active in multiple organizations (i.e. Speech/Debate, Mu Alpha Theta, Theatre, Choir, etc.), so I was able to get along with a lot of people.
