Shit I am fucked on this lol.

How far back and what would be considered rap?

Sir Mix-a-lot Baby got back --okay it won an award for rap so that is one lol.

Young MC--Bust a move. --also won an award for rap so this one is good too.

I will have to think of another one. lol. Heresy here, but I don't like rap so much(and age thing really).

    Do Salt-N-Pepa songs count?

GangStarr, "Ex Girl to Next Girl" De La Soul tie for No. 2 place: "Ego Trippin, Part II", "A Rollerskatin' Jam Named Saturdays" Public Enemy, "Prophets of Rage" I have to dap nearly everyone on this as I have specific memories of events tied to all the other listed songs. Met Doug E. Fresh a couple of times, real down to earth bruh. Flavor Flav was a big disappointment when I met him in person and found out it wasn't an act.

"Flavor Flav was a big disappointment when I met him in person and found out it wasn't an act."

I can only imagine how f@#kin annoying he must be in real life. smh
I never understood his purpose with Public Enemy, nor why they held on to him. I know that was the era of "The Hype Man" but PE was a political group and had some serious sh!t to say.

LMAOOO @ ''Flavor Flav was a big disappointment when I met him in person and found out it wasn't an act.'' . I actually was thinking I may be disappointed either way, if it was fake or real. Maybe the meeting him alone I would pass on. :iverson2:

When I met them it was about the time the whole Griff/ant-semitism/Spike Lee thing happened. Me and some other brothers agreed to do some crowd control in return for a meet-and-greet. I remember one of my boys asking if Griff was actually permanently out the group. Anyway, I remember Flav was with a groupie/girl/ho on each arm and eating an uncooked hotdog. For the benefit of our homie, ColumbusGuy, this concert was either in Columbus or Dayton, as I was at OSU and making my then-hotep rounds about the Africentric chitlin circuit as a wannabe Malcolm.

Man, I love this thread. I can trace my sense of fashion to every hip hop song back then. Run DMC "Raising Hell" addidas with fat laces (but Whodini's "Back in Black" was THE ALBUM of 1986 for me); my Kangol-track suit phase with LL's "Bigger and Deffer" and Stesasonic "In Full Gear"; and my early 90s native tongue business casual with "De La Soul is Dead" and Tribe "Low End Theory." In between, I swear it seemed like I was usually wearing as a kid whatever Jeffrey Osborne was rocking on his latest album cover.

Since then it's been a struggle with Father Time to keep from that Fred Mertz, old guy with waistband-hiked-up-to-nipples look (ha!)

Now that I'm older, I kind of see what Chuck D was doing marketing-wise. Chuck was the middle path between two extremes: the irresponsible, street bro stereotype on one hand (Flav) and the super-hardcore black radical on the other (Griff). Though, it wasn't an act, they pretty much were that in real life; everyone knows Flav's ratchedness from reality TV, and Griff still puts those conspiratorial (and homophobic) videos on YouTube.

As much as I like PE, I enjoyed the non-political, smooth stuff too. That's what kills me when Bill O'Reilly Fox news types get their panties in a wad over hip hop/rap. Hip Hop is so dope (borrowing from Ocky), it ALWAYS had its own sub-genres, even in the early days, from

I was pretty much done with all new music by the early 90's. But in the eighties I did buy a blue shirt that looked just like the one that Jeffrey Osborne had on in 'Stay with me Tonight' -I think that was early 80's though.

photoweek21a.jpg I am not that far from this I need to lose some damn weight! :mjcry1:

I am going out to this really good new Asian place this weekend with a friend and I should have him take a pic of me to post on here so (after you get over the shock and horror) you all can have a good laugh. In the last 15 years my looks and body have gone to hell. And I was not only thinner at 40 but looked younger than my age too..let it be a warning of the dangerous years ahead! lol

That album, "De La Soul is Dead" is their best imho. Made 1991 one of the best years of my life. To put the two videos together, check out Guru's guest MC on "Patti Dooke", from DLS's third album, "Buhloon Mindstate." Also can't praise Guru's three Jazzmatazz albums enough.
