This is a very nice and uplifting news clip from the BBC about a gay radio station in South Africa. It looks like it is a mix of different men and women, white, black, muslim trying to fight homophobia and it is a cool clip and something good for that area(when so much recently coming from Africa regarding gay stuff has not been so great). Check it out!

Great stuff! Thank god for the Internet and cheap mobile. No one has an excuse for being ignorant, as you can bypass America's crap media and get the BBC for free (podcasts, news articles).

Radio still serves a vital communication purpose even in the Net age. It's far more easier for governments to shut down Internet access than shut down pirate and independent radio operators (to wit, China banning all Internet news feeds). I still have my shortwave radio I used to use for "global access" lol. I learned about the Bhopal Union Carbide disaster ahead of American media on the one I had as a kid. Listening to the BBC and Voice of America at 3 am in the middle of Iraq on guard duty. Good times!

Quartz is also a good source of African news if you like mailing lists (Quartz - Africa).

Mostly the world news podcast, the science and business ones too. I always download the music genre ones, like the African and Irish ones. That's how I got to discover new female artists that wouldn't get played on American radio like Nigeria's Ase, or Irish rockabilly artist Imelda May.

I especially liked black British filmmaker/musician Don Letts's series. I've been a big fan of Letts since his days fronting the rock group Big Audio Dynamite with Mick Jones of The Clash

Radio still commands large audiences throughout Africa and I would guess that it is still reaches more people than the internet. BBC, VOA, FranceInter remain popular. I wonder whether this station is local in its reach or whether it also broadcasts on shortwave. It would be really a breakthrough if it were on shortwave and could be picked up anywhere on the continent - or even here in the US.
And thanks @Rico for mentioning Quartz - it's been a while since I checked in and I'd lost track of it.

In the past few months we have had shows like I Am Cait and an episode of Nickelodeons Loud House taken off air because they were "promoting the gay agenda". Maybe what we do need is our own radio station in the continent. Def a step in the right direction

A good point about the vulnerability of media like radio or TV in countries where the government controls the media or access to the airwaves in general. If a radio station requires a licence to broadcast, that is a potential obstacle to gay radio. In that situation, the internet may be the way out..

With so many tv series and movies incorporating gay characters i can already see it becoming difficult to sensor these shows. There is hope of having it on FM radio soon
