LOL yes! I mean, once I discovered it I kept coming back and reading the articles. It introduced me to the DL Chronicles and other great stuff like the LA Complex. And then, discreetcity redirected to CypherAvenue and I was like... "Ok, they're updating it I guess." But yes, this was the main gay site I came to back in high school. Now, I'm a Junior in college.
I got to know from twitter. I saw a conversation re tweeted into my time line and the handle was what caught my attention. I think it was Discreet City back then
I came across an article that also had a shirtless man, but I had to be a member of the site to read it I think. Basically, I was trapped. lol
We knew even back then that we were an intervention source for many new young gay dudes who were on the cusp of becoming obnoxious flamboyant fems without proper guidance...
I am new to the game. It was about three months or so, I was searching for gay films and shows. The search pulled up Cypher while introducing me to "Freefall", and I got into the show and the site. I recently joined which for me shows how much I like it.
Was looking for a decent website that dealt with just regular gay guy shit.....A buddy told me abut this site. Have not been disappointed yet.....
I found CA by accident on YouTube back when it was Discreet City. I was pleasantly surprised to find a website geared toward masculine black gay men who have other interests besides "gay issues" like cars, movies, comics, sci-fi, video games, etc.
It was by accident actually I was having a real bad bad month hell year would be more accurate and I need to connect with more gay people, specifically black gay people simply because I felt i need to be around other people like me that could maybe understand what I was feeling cause my mother was sick, I was about to lose my place, and it was during the whole Tryavon Martin thing. I went on twitter followed a few porn stars but after awhile it was not real what i was looking for so... don't real actually remember but i saw one of @Nick Delmacy or I think it was him post about not worrying about finding love and just enjoy life and being single and it clicked something for me and ever since then I have been slowly been coming to this site ever since then. That my story or at least the safe parts.
I found the site when it was in a final incarnation of Discreet City. It was about to change over to Cypher Avenue so I decided to change with it. I was very new to the lifestyle and I was longing to connect with masculine dudes in an effort to see where/if I belonged. And that's all I have to say about that...
I was texting a good friend of mine who suggested I should check it out and get involved....so I did and have been here since, thanks to him.
I believe I was reading about DL men or something but I think it was something dealing with improving one's self as a gay man or something via google. I stumbled upon the site and debated on joining and I did. I used to be on BGC but have ditched it soooo long ago for Cypher. I like the sophistication the site gives & I check it often to hear podcasts and look up articles. I'm so happy I can be on something & speak that doesn't require exposing others weaknesses, babbling about Beyonce (no offense to those that love her, I'm just not into the idolatry phases) & bickering over who is the cutest poster. Thank the lord no one on here addresses the other as girl, hunty or sista and the topics are diverse & profound. Love the Web Series reviews as well cause they aren't sugarcoated. In fact, none of the site is & that's why it's pretty jazzy..haha.
I watched a movie late last year and I heard the term 'DL' so I decided to research on it then I found something about the DL Chronicles.. I think it was a link to something CA had written about it. I don't really remember but basically it was my research on DL men that led me to the site. I was hooked immediately because its masculine inclined, diverse topics and the comments in the threads.
I'm in a group for black gay fraternity members. Someone posted an article in the group and most of us dragged the site for fem shaming. I came to mock the site...then I got all sucked in. I'm still here for the trade!
I remember I started with this site back when it was Discreet City. Not gonna lie, I'm little glad the name is changed, it just feels better, although I understand why it was called what it was originally. But when I first stumbled upon this site, I was more than pleasantly surprised by it's refreshing and rich content that it contained. And at one point, it inspired me to write an article for it as well, in which I wrote an article on here for a webseries. Member AfricanKing told me to get on the boards immediately when it first started.... I didn't listen and got left behind like lot's wife. lol. Now I gotta earn my way up to a status beyond lurker. lmao. But to me this site was and still is something with nothing but rich content. To me it gives me a daily dose of amazing news surrounding and regarding the LGBT community.
In one word: curiosity. After watching the DL Chronicles I became enamoured with the DL. Not because it reflected my experience but the whole kiss and don't share concept was appealing. While searching for similar content with the terms "masculine" "gay" "black", I came across Discreet City. I honed in on the podcasts and quickly discovered I wasn't the target audience. Lol. So I left. Back in June of this year I was reading about Gaybros and it reminded me of DC. My search led me to CA. In the interim I found a similar forum for gay folks in my country so I now appreciate the sense of belonging one gets from participating on such a platform. I will honestly say I still don't get the sci-fi stuff. Maybe that too will change...
I was looking for articles, journals, pictures, etc. about African homosexuality and gender expression pre-colonialism for both my own knowledge and my Tumblr followers on Google and came across this article. Since then, I've been lurking for over a year at CA, but finally joined because the previous black gay forum I was on is dying a very slow and excruciatingly painful death.
I was online looking for info on how to navigate the LGBTQXYZ world after coming from a heteronormative lifestyle and marriage. Dating females wasn't an issue, but understanding gay dudes was. So I ran up on a podcast via Youtube and it's been love ever since.
I discovered this blog over the weekend. I was reading another blog called "Confessions of a Down-Low Brother: The Sequel." On his blog, he added a list of his favorite Bloggers/Websites which I decided to check out. I scrolled down the list until I found one that I liked. So here I am
Bruh I used to follow that same DL brotha blog...but not so strongly. Then the URL changed. Would ya send it to me?
Lol, I just discovered that one a couple months ago. Here you go... Confessions of a Down-Low Brother: The Sequel
I think I saw CA referenced way down in a random YouTube commentary. I'm always on the lookout for real nonbullshit podcasts, so I did a "dogcatcher" search and it came up, I thought "Cypher Avenue, I like the sound of that" and downloaded one to sample.......it was like a breath of fresh air, no overcompensate for being gay, just guys being guys, talking like guys, made me an instant convert to CA (the sexy voices don't hurt neither # Nick Delmacy ) and the subject matter has always been on point. I found they even ....gasp....applied logic to their thoughts, and criticisms, and were even willing consider their own responses critically....a thoughtful approach that taken altogether is extremely rare in any venue and virtually unheard of in any other gay space.
