Its weird to me and I never like/d it. If comes off as slightly feminine or immature. Puppies and Kittens are cute. Children are cute...not men.
I don't think I would use the word 'cute' to another guy. I don't think most men want to be called 'cute'- it can be taken too many ways/too 'iffy' of a word-as in may be thought of as a backhanded compliment.
I get it. Guys are supposed to be handsome and Ladies are supposed to be cute. But indeed, there are guys that are cute, especially if a guy is a pretty boy. Example: Handsome Cute FINE AS HELL
"Cutie" sounds very kiddish. I know very few people who use that word. But I do use "cute" to describe dudes that I've found attractive. It might be a generational thing or just a personal preference. A lot of dudes don't have a problem with calling someone they find attractive "cute," because we can distinguish the difference between cute meaning attractive and cute meaning adorable. Example: Mahershela Ali: "Damn, he's cute." (He's physically attractive) A toddler walking for the first time: "Aw, he's cute." (He's adorable).
I do not think it is offensive. Many guys that have boyish good looks may fall into the "cute" category based on their youthful appearance. If someone says I'm cute, I take it as a compliment and keep it moving.
I don't think many men like to be called cute. However, I feel like telling someone they look good, dope and even cute is probably the safest bet to not come off thirsty or stroke someones ego to the max. You will never catch me calling someone sexy or hot to their face. Usually when I call someone handsome is to a young boy or a man that I'm not attracted to (i.e. family, friends, ugly nigga that dresses sharp).
Two guys under 18 talking about each other or peers: okay. Older guys talking to each other, or about younger men: hell nope. See also acceptable synonyms, "Handsome", "Distinguished", "Urbane", etc.
Literally just had this convo with a buddy the other day. I absolutely hate it. As someone inching closer to 30, it's not a compliment.
The word cute is definitely childish. It's like a grown person saying my tummy hurts it's like use your words it's called a stomach. So in retrospect a guy using the word cute would be disqualified immediately. #Ijs
Its definitely seems like a term thats used for juveniles. I would never use that term for men over 30. I would consider them handsome, fine, or bad as fvck. But I would have to admit, I have seen some men in their early 20's with a perfect face and perfect body and I have said, "awww, he's a cutie or cute lil baby". Yes I know these are grown ass men, but for some younger guy it just seem like the term cute is appropriate. IMO
Ive never really thought about it, but as I do right now, I guess when it comes to adults I kind of use it as a part of a barometer, so to speak. I guess I kind of think of 'cute' as attractive on a level that doesn't exactly warrant me saying, 'damn, he is fine'.
Similar to @acessential "Cute" to me is usually for younger looking guys who are actually young, less than 30. "Damn he fine" is for me, someone who is attractive, symmetrical, and mature looking that hits all my bells and whistles. Both of these I'd use to describe someone to someone else. I would not directly tell another man he was cute. I'll tell him that he is attractive like "You are a good looking guy." "You look good." "Man, you are hot." "You're a good looking guy" comes off very informal and works for straight men as well, without coming off as "I'm tryna fuck." It sticks and moves and can work as an opener depending on their response. Could be just "Thanks, man" or "Thanks, man; you too." Which can lead you more .
Children's books are cute. Micky Mouse is cute. Elmo is cute. I would find it strange if a man or woman came up to me and offered a compliment using cute. Hey, Blackguy Executive you look cute today is not a sentence I would ever expect to come out of anyone's mouth. Hey, Blackguy Executive, you look handsome today or hey you have on a nice shirt or nice tie. Cute is for kids.
I don't care that much. I went to a birthday party yesterday and I was told I was cute by a few of the black gay men there. No issue.
I've never attributed the word "cute" to sounding feminine per say. Because there are straight women who refer to straight men as cute. And I agree with prior posts you can tell from the context in which the person is speaking as to the type of "cute" they're referring to. I personally sometimes will see an attractive guy and be like oh he's a cutie and not think anything of it and I've been called the same and have no issue about it. I think it's just everyone's preference at the end of the day
...you lost me at fine as hell. You were accurate up until then, lol. @acessential & @mikeyllo I hate when dudes call you sexy, it grosses me out; I'm like, you a creep bro lol. But I'm probably tripping cause it's not that serious. ...and you'a bastard for that last part, Lmao! You can just @ me bro, it's free. ...that's a bit harsh though, innit? The pool's already pretty small yeh, you're gonna make it smaller because of the word "cute"? When did 30 become old? That's still a young dude, to me.
You are sounding like a grizzled old veteran and all, using 'the gays' like that lol. Look how far you have come. And yeah, 30 probably is seeming quite young-now that you are rapidly approaching it, right? I jest, I jest. And you look quite(pick what is appropriate from the list below) in your avatar. -nice -cute -attractive -good-looking -handsome I did rethink it because in the last few days I have seen pics of guys online and thought 'he is cute' more than a couple times, so I guess it is not that big of a deal when using it and I think it just comes to mind when someone is sort of boyishly attractive or goodlooking so I retract my previous post. I still don't think I would use it to someone's face(I would probably use something more directly complimentary or not say anything at all), but it is not that big of a deal really. Champagne_Papi made some good points-it is not that big of a deal really.
Humans just look older at 30. It doesn't mean your mentality is old. Your facial features are usually mature. You start to lose the youthful glow physically.
Lol speak for yourself, bro. Just kidding. Seriously, though, when I was a teenager, I remember George Orwell wrote "at the age of fifty, everyone has the face they deserve." I took that shit to heart and I tried not to be an evil mofo so when I hit 40, I didn't look like half the people I used to know in high school, mug shots, or the news. I've had my share of Chiron-meets-Kevin-at-diner moments in life.
