Watch: Student Charged With Assault and Teacher on Leave After Fight Caught on Tape

A Baltimore City teacher has been placed on administrative leave, and a female student has been charged with assault, after a classroom incident involving a cellphone turned violent and the bulk of it was caught on tape.

According to WBAL, the fight began at Carver Vocational High School in West Baltimore on Friday after the teacher asked the 17-year-old senior to leave because she was talking on her cellphone in class. In the video the student can be seen leaving the class and pushing a chair in the direction of the teacher. The student also throws something across the teacher's desk in the teacher's direction.

Outside the classroom, the student throws a notebook at the teacher and the teacher can be seen charging the student. A male student attempts to break it up, but the teacher can be heard on tape yelling, "I'll kill you up in here [expletive]; what the [expletive] you think this is," she says.

"You're supposed to be a role model to these children, and you took your shoes off and physically was fighting her like you was outside on the street," Nikia Jones, the student's aunt, told Fox 45. The student's family told the news station that they had seen the video and admitted that she may have thrown the book at the teacher, but noted that the teacher was the adult in the situation and didn't behave accordingly.

"You send the best child you have to school, maybe a problem child, maybe a good child. But you send the best you have," Nancy Jones, the girl's grandmother, told Fox 45. "You don't expect nobody to fight her like that."

According to the news station, the teacher was treated for minor injuries and placed on administrative leave until a thorough investigation could be conducted. The student was arrested, charged with assault and released to a parent.

    Good for that teacher!

It is not a teachers responsibility to teach students basic levels of respect and home training, nor to be a role model. If that's the best you can send to school then maybe its best to keep her ass at home.

Young people are not very respectful these days at all. They will kill you if you take their phones, televisions or internet.

Sorry, I may be wrong when I say this but if anyone tries to physically harm me, I'll defend myself. Kids don't respect no one these days. I've seen junior high kids threaten grown adults...

    Little demons..lol

look im not saying what the teacher did was right but i understand. the disrespect teachers go through is outrageous. On top of that teachers in urban areas deal with a lot of stress being overworked, underpaid, traveling to dangerous neighborhoods, car break ins, and personal threats. Its a noble profession but like the ministry you almost have to be called by god lol. :rejoice:

That teacher basically said, "I'm sick of this shit." I've been a sub at all grade levels, so can imagine that besides the teacher just being at a boiling point, and that this was not the first time that student in the video has given her problems. All that professionalism crap goes out the door when you're dealing with a classroom of disrespectful brats, sometimes. I actually had a group of students accuse me of assaulting a teacher and had another teacher and the vice principal question me about it. In my own way, I let both the teacher and VP know that they were stupid for questioning me without even having gone to the so-called victim. I asked both of them, "Do you really expect a teacher to hit another teacher in front students and that teacher not report it?" (I did admitted to kinda going off on the "victimized" teacher, tho. Another story.) All that being said, teachers are supposed to protect kids, in theory, but sometimes, it's all about protecting yourself when someone is threatening to harm you. In my mind, I was thinking, there's no way these kids are gonna try and get me in trouble, so I threw all they asses under the bus, unapologetically called them liars and ended up kinda shaming the teacher and VP for coming to me with such bullshit.

Teachers have a much tougher job these days, esp with the distractions of cell phones and social media. This took place in Baltimore too, so all the more reason for me to side with the teacher.

As a teacher, she was wrong... But as a human being that has to deal with bad ass kids all day, she was only doing what was natural.

I have no issues with the teacher defending herself. She could have let the book being thrown at her go. However, she simply was at her breaking point. She even told her to leave the classroom several times before she called the police knowing this wasn't the first time her little ass did this. Growing up in Baltimore and having gone through formal education there, I've seen how disrespectful kids have been to teachers, simply because parents let their kids act a fool with no home training or direct discipline. As stated, this girl was a problem child with other teachers, even in the previous school year. And with her parents not caring at all and giving a bypass on anything they've heard or know that has been reported by teachers and school staff that involved their child, she really feels confident to doing what she wants to do. However, on this day, she tried it and got her ass beat. And it was long overdue, even though the ass beating and disclipine should have come from the two damn people who birthed her disrespectful ass.

I've spent the past 4 years in Chicago Public high schools. Some time ago, I was inthe NY Public high school. Teachers are abused by students, regulary. There is physical abuse and verbal/emotional abuse... both hurt.
I can understand and appreciate the teacher's position. While I've never gotten in to trouble, I've kicked some ass and knocked the wind out of a number of students over the years. These kids are not only rude and disrespectful, they get into your personal space and threaten. For me, it's been effective in getting the kid in line and getting that respect. The funy thing is that after a beatdown, these kids were alway back in my face trying to be my buddy- they'll want to hang out in my classroom with me during free periods. I believe I may have saved a life... really.

In this situation, this child was a known issue.. even the mother admitted that. I am gonna say that the teacher did what she had to do. Clearly, is not up for trial. It is unfortunate that schools do not protect teachers from abuse and are always ready to jump on the parents' side. And NO ONE ever holds parents responsible for their BAD ASS Kids.. from the school administrators, school district, and the mayor. *smdh*

Such savagery. This is a product of breakdowns at the community level. Kids today have ZERO respect for authority and have some sort of invincibility concept that is ruining the potential of minority students particularly Black Girls. I think first and foremost, the problems start in the home, if the parents are not providing home training to these little delinquents how can we expect teachers to do their jobs? With that being said, the teaching has NO business squaring up to a student, she should have had more common sense than to engage. The ONLY time a teacher should engage in fighting a student is when they are trying to defend themselves from attack. IMHO.

Did you notice she called the police, not another administrator? (speaks for this being more than just a one-time situation) And do you know this isn't the first time acting out and being disrespectful other school workers? Teachers arent suppose to fight students, but students can't use their age to the extent to physically assault a teacher. She had no business hitting the teacher with a book. She's being paid to teach, not to be assaulted and disrespected.
