Do you personally know gay couples with kids?

No I have not.

 

I wish. It would be a GREAT look to see two guys create that reality.

But when I'm feeling gay, corny and lovey dovey I hop on to the Gays With Kids channel on youtube.

 

I know several families where gay men are raising kids together, through the adoption process and through a direct surrogate process. My husband is to be a social worker that worked in this area. Both of the couples I mentioned are married and on the upper end of the socio-economic scale.

I think knowing gay men who are raising kids together really depends on where you are in life, like the Straights, they tend to hang out with other families with kids. If you out here living the single life you probably aren't planning outings at kids birthdays or little league or whatever.

My husband wants us to really consider adoption but I am not ready yet for that.

Im sure you remember when the 3 blk guys died in that car accident in ATL last year. Well one of the guys was a friend of mine, and he and his partner had two very young kids through surrogacy. Both partners were black too. It's def not the norm, but it's proof that it happens.

 

No I personally don't know any. I've seen it only on the internet so to me it's just theoretical. I've thought about adopting a kid actually but I have to be honest with myself. I just don't have the time or energy to commit to jumping through all the legal hoops. I also don't think I have what it takes to be a good parent so it's probably a good thing that I'm gay. I'd probably be a terrible father of I was straight.

I do know a gay couple of color with kids but they're a lesbian couple though. Hell I know a few lesbian couples with kids. But the couple I know in particular they have three boys. Beautiful family

I know two couples who have children, in each case the kids are adopted. In each case the fathers are model PTA type parents, engaged in their kids' activities. I was surprised by one of the couple's transformation from a night-life-loving couple to homebodies. The other couple seemed to be made for domestic tranquility from the outset.
In my experience I know more lesbian couples who have chosen to have families.

 

As luck would have it, after I commented yesterday, I was joined by two frineds, one a contributor to the Boards, and the conversation turned to gay couples with kids. One guy said he thought that for a lot of these couples adopting kids, they were just a new accessory. Walk around Dupont Circle on a Saturday afternoon and you have to weave your way through all the gay couples with their high end strollers. I haven't been around the circle in years so I don't know if it's real, but if it is the circle is sure different from when I first hung there in the 80s, but then I knew that.

 

Good question. I agree that my friend's comment was judgmental (he is just a little bit judgmental). I can't speak for my friend who said this, but I suspect his observation of the trend for gay men to try to replicate the lifestyles of the straight upward bound couples they increasingly interact with. Personally, I was initially surprised when I one of the couples I know talked about how they were able to do so much more networking now that they had kiddie soccer as a way to meet important people whose kids played in the same group.
I have heard similar sentiments from other friends about couples with kids.
Of course, it is also possible that it is just the green-eyed monster rearing its ugly head.
