SoCal made me realize a lot of this homophobic shit is regional and cultural. I don't see it where I'm at now, so for now, on this topic I'm chill like

I think the way homophobia manifests itself is different in the black American community. There seems to be a very public front of anti-gay sentiment, but behind closed doors, not so much. My experiences have always been black people have a problem when it's "thrown in their face," whether they're church folk or not. There isn't an organized effort to criminalize or punish homosexuals (that isn't backed by white evangelical money.) The issue seems to be when they're confronted with the sexual aspect of homosexuality. That blows their minds, but if you aren't holding hands or kissing in public, or otherwise "embarrassing the family" by "calling attention to yourself" it doesn't seem like most black people will escalate it higher than heterocentric micro-aggressions.

Yes the majority of black folks (and other minorities like Hispanics) are anti-gay. I was raised in a black family where it was looked down upon for a black male to be soft, effeminate, or flamboyant. But its weird because black women talk about "phags" and DL men so much, but some love gay men especially if u are feminine or flamboyant gay men just to laugh at them and their jokes and shady comments.

Its also weird how the black community place high regard on masculine behavior and being a tough, hardcore, alpha male...but so many black children grow up in a single family home. One black psychologist said that's one reason why so many black kids are turning homosexual and DL.

I think it takes a mentally strong man to be openly homosexual especially in the black heterosexual community. The ostracism and lack of acceptance is one reason why so many men and women who struggle with their orientation or identify as homo/lesbian have psychological, mental, emotional and spiritual issues. Plus we were never taught properly how to be gay unlike our completely heterosexual counterparts who were shown the way since youth...another reason why gay and lesbian youth make bad decisions that can affect their life.

Yes. But white people, Asian cultures, Hispanic cultures etc. many of them are anti-gay at times as well.

But as I'm' black, I'll speak on black people.

I feel with the black community, it's not only anti-gay, but its' also, "don't ask, don't tell", which I don't like either. As they feel that's solving the issue.

Many black people myself included, are Christian and religious to some degree. We all know the complicated ties with homosexuality and religion.

There are many gay black men in the black church. This is known fact, yet nothing is done about it, and people don't care. They just keep their mouth shut. If they are out of the closet, it causes issues.

I think it's just the fact black people already have a laundry list of other negative agendas painted on our culture, warranted or unwarranted. Why add homosexuality to that list of issues, or things we have to strive or discuss or improve on? I mean racism and things of that sort now more than ever are having issues, how can we even begin to assess LGBT issues?

    So yeah.
