The American way is really no different for black folk than the European way. After all Europe was the mother of the international slave trade which birthed its child, the Americas, and the international system of white supremacy. So I always side-eye when foreign folk, including Africans, dismiss America AS IF every other country on the Earth hasn't engaged in Genocide, Fascism, Totalitarianism or other isms. Although Europeans like to think they're above it all. It's not that America is perfect, its that the REST of the world is just as imperfect. Which is why, as a working class black kid growing up in the US, I had no problem understanding the humor of Monty Python, The Goon Show, Eastern Bloc and Soviet animations, or first generation Japanese anime.
