The Least Compatible Zodiac Signs

The least compatible astrology signs are those that typically clash with one another. Each sign has some specific traits -- and if those traits don't mesh well with another sign's trait, problems can arise. This holds true in romance, friendship and/or business relationships. That being said, there are always exceptions: Some signs that shouldn't gel well at all wind up enjoying wonderful, life-long partnerships filled with harmony and light. This list includes each astrology sign's least compatible signs and opposite signs, along with some of the reasons they're incompatible.

They say opposites attract -- but do they? Yes, in some cases, they do. This is particularly true with astrology. When a star sign is in the seventh position of another sign, they're considered opposites. The initial attraction might be extremely strong, but if a relationship between opposite signs is to work, both people have to be willing to compromise or face incompatibility. Respecting each other's fundamental differences is the key to any good coupling, and this is true with astrology signs as well.

Astrology signs that might be incompatible can work. It's just a matter of finding that common ground and being willing to accept one another's quirks, likes and dislikes.


Aries




Least Compatible Signs: Cancer, Capricorn
Opposite Sign: Libra

Aries, the Ram, is a fire sign. The least compatible zodiac signs with Aries are Cancer (water) and Capricorn (earth). In additon, Aries's opposite sign is Libra (air). Those born under the sun sign of Aries tend to be extroverted individuals who are really energetic and, as their ruling element implies, downright fiery at times. Typically, Aries is not very compatible with the more conservative and introverted signs of Cancer and Capricorn. Aries' opposite sign is Libra. The combination, traditionally, doesn't work well - though there are exceptions.


Taurus




Least Compatible Signs: Leo, Aquarius
Opposite Sign: Scorpio

Those born under the sign of Taurus are said to be least compatible with Leo and Aquarius, with the opposite sign being Scorpio. It's not entirely surprising, though, that Taurus might be drawn to Scorpio's magnetism -- but the match isn't always harmonious. Taurus might have some trouble adjusting to Scorpio's passionate and headstrong approach to life.


Gemini




Least Compatible Signs: Virgo, Pisces
Opposite Sign: Sagittarius

While Gemini might be attracted to the mental quickness of Virgo and the dreaminess of Pisces, these signs are not traditionally good astrological matches for the Twins. Virgos might offer flighty Gemini some safety, but will tire of the Twins' light-heartedness. Gemini's opposite sign is Sagittarius, and while a potential pairing between these two seems very, very interesting on the surface, things don't always work out so well. Both signs share a love of travel and a natural intellect, but these two might find it hard to actually sit down and make decisions about anything together.


Cancer




Least Compatible Signs: Aries, Libra
Opposite Sign: Capricorn

Cancers are said to be least compatible with Aries and Libra, with their opposite sign being Capricorn. A Cancer involved in a relationship with an Aries and/or Libra might find things to be a bit too unstable. Aries is fiery and forceful, and Libra often seeks variety -- and in both cases, a practical, stability-loving Cancer could become uncomfortable. Cancer and Capricorn is certainly a challenging relationship for both, as the Cancer is quick and open to express emotions, while the Capricorn is often stoic and has trouble expressing feelings.


Leo




Least Compatible Signs: Taurus, Scorpio
Opposite Sign: Aquarius

Leos are least compatible with Taurus and Scorpio. With Taurus, there could be a battle of wills -- both signs are headstrong and quite used to getting exactly what they want. Scorpio might be a bit too strong-willed for Leo (in this way, the two signs are actually TOO similar). Leo's opposite sign, Aquarius, isn't always a good match, because Leo might think Aquarius is too detached and airy.


Virgo




Least Compatible Signs: Gemini, Sagittarius
Opposite Sign: Pisces

The least compatible astrology signs for Virgo are Gemini and Sagittarius, with the opposite sign being Pisces. With Gemini, Virgo might feel frustrated - Gemini's like to think in terms of broad strokes, while Virgo's are much more into specific details. The same is true with a Virgo-Sagittarius match. Virgo's opposite sign, Pisces, also presents challenges: Virgo is a doer; Pisces is a dreamer -- if these two can complement each other, things could work out great. If not? Well, it's not a good match.


Libra




Least Compatible Signs: Cancer, Capricorn
Opposite Sign: Aries

The least compatible signs for Libra include Cancer and Capricorn. Cancers might be too tied to their routines and their home life for the super-social Libra. Capricorns might be too driven and pushy to make a Libra happy and harmonious. Libra's opposite sign, Aries, might be too bold and decisive to suit the Scales' taste.


Scorpio




Least Compatible Signs: Leo, Aquarius
Opposite Sign: Taurus

Scorpio's least compatible astrology signs are Leo and Aquarius. With Leo, a Scorpio might sense a kindred spirit -- at least on the surface. Both signs are powerful, but the same great traits that make them what they are can also tear these two apart. Scorpio might also have trouble with Aquarius, as both signs are stubborn. Taurus, the opposite sign of Scorpio, isn't always the best match: The Bulls can drive the Scorpions crazy with passion at first, but they'll argue later.


Sagittarius

Opposite Sign: Gemini

While Sagittarius might find some common ground with both Virgo and Pisces (particularly the Fish, whose dreamy nature will no doubt appeal to Sag's idealism), ultimately, these two signs aren't the archer's best matches. The problem might be that while Sagittarius likes to do things with a gung-ho approach, Pisces might be a bit too indecisive. With Gemini, Sag's opposite sign, things will be interesting and never dull -- these two are very, similar, changeable signs who love to exchange ideas. Ultimately, however, Sag and Gem will find it tough to actually come out of their heads and make solid decisions about the future.


Capricorn

The least compatible astrology signs for Capricorn are Aries and Libra. Here's a good way to sum things up: With Cappy, slow and steady wins the race. With Aries, it's all about impulses -- quick decisions (often without a lot of forethought) get results the fastest. Capricorn might find it tough to control Libra. Capricorn's opposite sign is Cancer: These two are vastly different signs. Capricorn is reserved and doesn't easily express feelings; Cancer is incredibly emotional and demonstrative. Bad combo, in most cases.


Aquarius

Opposite Sign: Leo

Aquarius's least compatible signs are Taurus and Scorpio. Aquarius might grow frustrated with Taurus's rigid way of thinking. Scorpio presents a serious challenge as well, because both the Scorpion and the Water-Bearer are incredibly opinionated, and each wants to be right. Leo is the opposite sign of Aquarius. Both signs enjoy being in the limelight and getting lots of attention -- so there could be conflict, though there might also be a natural attraction.


Pisces

The least compatible astrology signs for Pisces are Gemini and Sagittarius. With Gemini, the Pisces might have trouble understanding their thought processes. Pisces often rely on non-verbal cues -- Geminis are all talk, almost continually. Sagittarius' no-nonsense, gung-ho approach to tackling virtually anything in life might freak Pisces out completely. Pisces's opposite sign is Virgo, and this match could be particularly inharmonious. Why? Put simply, Pisces is a dreamer, a person who relies a lot on gut instinct. Virgo is one of the most practical signs in the zodiac -- they are analysts who need solid facts to negotiate their life.
