If a man stabbed his girlfriend's best friend in her neck because he was jealous of their friendship, would the phrases "toxic masculinity" or "fragile masculinity" have been used all across Buzzfeed and Huffington Post? Something tells me yes. Still look at the headline, it couldn't say "friendship" it had to say "bromance" because how dare men have platonic friendships.

Jodie Goodwin, 20, narrowly missed vital blood vessels and arteries in Anthony Milburn's neck when she lunged at his throat with a knife, it was claimed.

The UK mum-of-one was furious with then-partner Andrew, who said he and his friend were going to a house party after a night in the pub.

She armed herself with a 14cm-long kitchen knife and lunged at Anthony, 27, inflicting a 4cm-deep wound circling his neck, which needed 16 stitches, he said.

Goodwin admitted to wounding without intent and was told she was lucky to avoid facing a murder charge by a judge who jailed her for 27 months.

Anthony, a roofer and father-of-two, who has revealed the scar, said: "My best mate's girlfriend could have killed me - all because she was jealous.

"Me and Andrew were having a good laugh so when I found out a friend was having a house party nearby I said 'Let's go'.

"Jodie had a face like thunder and hissed 'You're not going with him'.

Newcastle Crown Court heard all three had been out drinking in February 2016 before they returned to Goodwin's house in Cambois, Northumberland.

The court heard she was "jealous of the close friendship he had with her boyfriend" and had openly voiced her dislike for him in the past.

Speaking after the case, Anthony said she had been jealous of his friendship with her then-partner, and became angry when he suggested they go to a party.

Jessica Slaughter, prosecuting, told the court she "leaned forward and slashed his neck".

Goodwin was arrested later that day and initially claimed it had been an accident which happened while she was cutting pizza.

The court heard she then falsely claimed Anthony had made sexual advances towards her.

Anthony, who has been left with a huge scar, said she was jealous of his friendship with her then-partner.

"I'm very conscious of the scar and I constantly keep it covered up in case people see it," he said.

"I don't know why Jodie did this to me other than her jealousy because of my close friendship with her boyfriend.

My first impression of Jodie wasn't great. I thought she was a bit gobby but I tried my best to get on with her.

"Every time we went to the pub after work Jodie would be there. I always felt like a third wheel.

"While me and Andrew played pool, she'd complain that he was ignoring her.

"He said 'I think she's jealous of our friendship - she'll soon chill out'.

Sentencing her in October, Mr Recorder Wheeler said Anthony was "lucky to survive".

Ian Hudson, mitigating, said it was a "drunken, spontaneous act" and Goodwin, had matured since having a baby.

I'm also sour about how the friendship is described as a "bromance." It strikes me as silly how everything has to be sexualized in modern culture. Cultural issues aside, I've noticed a lot of women seem to have a problem with boyfriend's and husbands friendships. It seems to be normal thing for them to try and sabotage their man's friendships. This is part of playbook of mind games heterosexual women like to play in order to gain the upper hand in the relationship. I've seen it too often.
