Church Pastor John Gray said he would not be shamed for buying his wife a $200,000 Lamborghini Urus for their eighth wedding anniversary, reported the Christian Post.

“[Eight] years. New Beginnings. New hope. New life. And for her, a new whip. I put a faith deposit down in February and God helped me to make my wife’s dream come true. Why not? She’s made mine come true! #GodIsMyWitness #BookContract #HatersBeBlessed,” the South Carolina pastor posted on social media.

Gray received mass criticism for posting a video of him gifting his wife the car on social media. The original video has since been deleted, but a few clips were saved. His wife Aventer Gray also gifted him with a Rolex watch that has a price tag of about $8,000.

The couple said that they will not apologize for the blessings they have from God. “I will never apologize for how hard we work and how we want to bless each other,” Aventer Gray said on social media.

The devil gives gifts too... I mean, um, wow...that's wonderful they love each other to speend that much money and brag about it online. It looks to me like they are just showing off. It's just my opinion but I don't know. I think people should be a bit more modest about "what God gave them". There are people that work hard too and don't get that ridiculous amount of money...but I guess. I'm in the minority. I was about to say what is he doing for the community but I don't know him like that or deeds to question it. It might be a good person that donates in private or something. Hmm

And wtf is a "faith deposit?"

He planted a seed for God to show him how to be able to afford the lavish gift while still not paying taxes

He could've asked me for a simple answer...

Pass around the collection plate one extra time before the end of service
Write a book about struggle and how God / Jesus / Faith saw you through hard times

Instant Lamborghini for wife'y so she can to stunt on her fellow Christian haters.

As an agnostic person I rarely have an opinion in regards to pastors that much. I can see the good in some and the not so good. But listening to Charlamagne talk about the pastor/money thing that seems to come up yearly (especially with black pastors) he actually had a good point that I never really thought about.

Why as people do we look at pastors as if they should not have nice things or want luxury items, but we don't mind rappers or athletes having those items? (besides the tax free thing)

That's a question that im sure isn't new. However, when he put it in the context of

"A rapper cab disrespect women, gay people, tell everyone to suck his dick and we would THROW that ignorance our money, go to their concerts, etc. But the second a pastor shows any amount of wealth of money or luxury, we look at them side eyed."

Me personally, I can't remember that last time I heard a pastor speak. I have only heard of this guy in passing on tv. Not to mention I dont listen to rap, so I dont give them my money either. But if a pastor is spreading a great message and inspiring people with his words, Im like damn. Maybe I should actually be giving him my money before I give some dude on the radio talking about molly, percocets, and how many hoes he got.

IMO I would prefer to see pastors more humble definitely. Wouldn't want to see them posing like rappers in front of their "faith deposit" rich houses and cars. Its a way you can have it without showing it in a tacky way.

But why shouldn't they be extremely wealthy after spreading a message to inspire people instead of dumbing down people? Im not mad at him at ll.

Congrats Pastor Gray, he probably deserves it.

The issue for me is that churches generate billions yearly and most of that money come from people with limited financial means. If you look at Pastor Gray's congregation, I would bet most of those people do not make 50K. So it seems tone deaf as a pastor, or any leadership position in ministry, to spend 200k on car when that money could be reinvested in the church and or community.

Why not take that money and start a scholarship for the kids of the church?
Why not take that money and bond people out of jail?

He may have earned this money through other means, like his book and speaking engagements, but the image of it doesn't play well.

I personally believe pastors and other "public servants" don't have to take a vow of poverty. Its ok to have nice things if they actually work for it ie have another job or have their own business(es) etc. But I the churches finances have to be in order 1st before u do that.

He took over someone else church n created a new one or merged one i think. The issue i would have w/ John Gray is that he is less than 1 year into pastor-ing his church; I would have waited. I would want to make sure the finances of the church was in order before I made a huge luxury purchase .
But hey I dont know his money like that. :hubie:

Why do ppl feel they need to post everything online? As a pastor he already knew the backlash he was going to get.

I can see the ole mothers board looking like lol.:maxine:

    I completely disagree with Charlamagne.

Pastors, preachers, clergyman (churches / religious organizations) are morally held to a higher ethical standard than rappers and athletes. Just like rappers and athletes; pastors, preachers, and clergyman disrespect women, gay people, commit murder, have affairs with strippers, prostitutes, molest children, commit acts of rape, sexual assault, commit adultery with members (fans) of their congregation, while knowing spreading STIs, and having children out of wedlock.

    Unlike
rappers and athletes they get local and state tax breaks, they get paid by tithes and donations while not having to pay taxes. Most churches don't pay property and federal income taxes which allows them to make anywhere between 70-80 BILLION dollars PER YEAR in the US.

That for me is the problem - religious organizations must pay taxes. This is why these pastors are able to live in luxury while many of them also break the law by publicly endorsing, supporting and donating to politicians.

Dude from the main thread along and his family can have a Lambo and more, good for him, I don't care. What I do care about is you and I can't and don't live and prosper without paying taxes. Being a person of (and employed by) faith should not shield you from financially making the same contribution to our society that most of Americans have to do. That is unfair to you. Even crooked congressman have to pay taxes and release them publicly every year.

I kinda have a problem with Pastors being in this position. There was a post on this board about Slavery and the black church and I believe they are making money by continuing to spread lies I call "slave faith". They preach from this book with all these rules about what is wrong and right and they can't even keep up with it but get excused because no one is perfect, yet will argue you up and down about unclean this and that and the majority of them aren't married, have already had kids and sex.

And it's annoying how folks hold these people in such high regards based on a book altered by man.

I had one guy go off on me. He was DL but a church guy and he strated quoting things his pastor had said about this but when I questioned him about his DL behavior..he basically told me I was trash, God respects him more than he does me because he goes to the church and I should just not waste God's time because I'm not trying to change my ways. He went beserk..but eh.

It was a wake up call for me about most of these church folks. I don't think anything is wrong with a pastor making money I'm more annoyed about the doctrine that keeps getting spread from generation to generation to blind folks.

I think pastors can have nice homes and cars but is there a church bus service for members who want to attend but can't because they are disabled? Or paying for Rideshare services for those members? Have they started after school programs for kids who get home before their parents? Is there a way food pantry for the community and church members?

I thought churches were supposed to contribute to the community they are built in in addition to supporting members.

Pride is a sin so it seems like she's awfully proud of this whip. I think a Lamborghini is way above church humbling. No one would care if it was a Lexus or Cadillac. No one gets mad at Preachers pushing those.

There is something inherently disturbed in hunan beings that we personality worship and pump up preachers, politicians, etc. and think they deserve opulence and riches above our own selves. I just read how some Russians want to bring back the Tsars and monarchy. Americans tried to emotionally propel JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy into “Camelot”, Trump literally brags he can shoot his followers in the face and they applaud him for it.

So, while I might be one of the irreligious ones on the Board to be expected eyerolling a black pastor fleecing the flock for his baby mama’s sportscar, at this point...so what? Human beings are universally trash and give in to this stuff. Maybe the preachers are right, we should just start using stupid people for their money and let them die in their personality worship.

As abhorrent as I find this. I almost can't be mad at these prosperity pimps.....er um preachers. I mean really they have the ultimate racket. They read a few words from an anthology of ancient middle-eastern myths, jump up and down, shout a few magic words, have the choir sing, shout a few more magic words and people give them money. Shit......I'm in the wrong line of work. I should be prosperity pimp so I can stunt in a Lamborghini and claim god "blessed" me with it. How about bruthas.....send me some cash in the name of Jesus, hallelujah, amen. There's Lambo with my name on it.
