Like for real...this current generation of mainstream black male R&B singers have ZERO members with non-falsetto singing styles. The last major black male R&B singer with a deeper voice to have any type of mainstream hits is R. Kelly....AND to be honest most mimic his style of "talk singing" and don't even understand they are doing it. Sorry but when I listen to a grown man sing, I want to hear a more deeper voice with the exception being Marvin Gaye and Maxwell whose whole persona is built off of falsetto/sensuality; not wanna be R&B falsetto thugism.

John Legend, Aloe Blacc, Luke James, Urban Mystic, Anthony Hamilton, Calvin Richardson, Tyrese Gibson, Mali Music, Anthony David are current rnb singers with deep voices. Unfortunately not many are really that main stream. This also speaks to the current state of mainstream rnb.

    I agree! He got it!

Usher is great too! But I gotta admit that I enjoy Usher more on his first two or three albums.

I do love Luke James and Tyrese. Some of those other guys are cool too.

    ------------

Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Miguel & even Ne-Yo are all baritone/tenors but they don't always sing in falsetto. There are several good singers out there @ockydub. I love Tank & Joe as well. They do their thing.

As far as R&B is concerned, it is changing. If you want that "old school" then just simply listen to old school. The newer age of R&B has many different elements of "pop", trap beats, psychadelic sounds, hip-hop, and the list goes on.

I could have easily mentioned half of these dude but as stated, they are NOT main stream with the exception of John Legend or Tyrese.

Let's be real...John Legend sounds like Dracula with down syndrome.

See now we playin..."Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Miguel & even Ne-Yo are all baritone/tenors but they don't always sing in falsetto." which means...most of the time they do. Also my bad for using "falsetto" loosely.

It has nothing to do with wanting "old school" it has to do with 95% the main stream "new school" all sounding the same. Out of these mainstream kats does anyone of them sound like they're over the age of 19?

So I will say this.. John Legend definitely is more of a crooner that does not use his diaphragm very much when it comes to singing. His vocals are more from his throat like T-Boz from TLC. I noticed that but c'mon dude... Dracula with Down's Syndrome? You wrong for that!

I understand what you mean. Quite a few of the newer artists whether they sing or rap in hip-hop/R&B all have some types of effects on their voices (auto-tune). I guess that is just the new wave. You don't hear people singing about love very much any more. There are no more chord changes in the production of MOST songs today on urban radio. A lot of music is you know the who "turn up, ratchet" type stuff and it is very hypersexualized. They like to focus on sex, money, drugs, alcohol, partying.... I won't say I don't like some of the songs but it would be cool to see variety. The sad part is that most consumers do not understand the power they have in controlling that. If you don't like it, don't support it.

Also again with black people, most simply don't support their own. It is always, "we need real music back" but no one is calling into radio stations requesting it and no one is going out to pick up the Anthony David album or the Jazmine Sullivan album. They do these press runs and people say "the game needs you"... Then they come out and sell less than 20,000 copies in the first week then the album sales drop drastically from there. So it is just a shame really...

Let's see...R&B singer with a baritone voice.. best one IMO

Teddy Pendergrass. Five platinum albums in a row(record for a black male artist at that time), great performer-sounded almost as good live as in recordings. No wonder all those women covered the stage in their underwear, love notes, room keys...lol.

Doing a medley of his hits with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and a few others,
