Here are 10 movies that WatchMojo think still look good after all this time:
    1. Jurassic Park (1993)
    2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
    3. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)
    4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
    5. Back to the Future II (1989)
    6. Star Wars (1977)
    7. A Trip to the Moon (1902)
    8. Metropolis (1927)
    9. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
    10. Starship Troopers (1997)
Agree, disagree? What movies do you think should have made the list?

Nothing immediately comes to mind. Haven't seen it in a very long time but I wonder how Death Becomes Her holds up. It's not old enough but District 9 (2009) may make similar lists years from now.

THANK YOU! Oh.My.Fuking.Gawd! YES. How is neither one of these films on the list in addition to John Carpenter's The Thing?

I was gonna put "The Thing" as well, but I was never really impressed by the special effects, even when I was a kid. Scared the f@3k outta me, but some parts were like "eh...".

I don't think these would be top ten (with the additions of Alien as well)...

Although the special effects were never that high tech to begin with at the time, I think the Exorcist (1973) has aged remarkably well in this respect. Little Regan getting possessed by the devil scenes are still pretty damn good IMO. The rest of the film helps, but some of that stuff has aged really well. Still a classic and scary movie. A lot of the special effects are convincing because they are not really 'special effects'- the rooms look cold and you see the breath of the actors because the rooms were kept freezing-but I guess that still falls under the category.

Another one I think has aged pretty well is The Andromeda Strain(1971) Maybe it is the story line that carries it for me, but even with the computers stuff being outdated it still works for me-Wildfire still seems like it is out there in the Nevada desert(it taps into my conspiracy theory stuff) and I don't think it would look that different today.

With the addition of Alien I pretty much agree with the list. (best horror/sci-fi film EVAR.)

Except or maybe Back to the Future.

Big fan of Aliens and Jurassic Park and Close Encounters.

What about Predator. It was great 80s cool cheese. I used to watch it everyday & probably will start back. I watch Aliens every other day! Game over man, Game over! Haha

Not really Special Effects (Pratical) per se but the original Nightmare on Elm Street had a fee eye catching scenes from Tina's death onowards.

Another one I liked not really all SFX was Ridely Scotts Legend, who also did the original Aliens. Tim Curry was good as the Lord of Darkness.

Would you consider The Fly (1986)? Maybe that would be a better candidate for good, disgusting makeup. There are probably a few Cronenberg movies like that.

It looks very 80's but I still think RoboCop 2's "You have 20 seconds to comply" ED-209 scene is cool.
