Saw this on my Facebook feed today created and posted by a BLACK STRAIGHT MAN:

    FullSizeRender.jpg

Last time I checked it had over 145 comments in the thread.

The backlash and debate got so bad, he eventually had to post this:

Just being honest, majority of black plp are anti-gay. Even if they say their not, in the back of there heads they ARE. Because of slavery we're always in a state of trying to rebuild what we lost especially when talking about black masculinity and black manhood (lesbianism is a whole nother issue and double standard). Black male Gayness is always equated with demasculinization/non alpha maleness/non maleness.

Then you have the the whole black church monopoly thing (black moozlims included) and the abomination/damnation theology. Even if some of the tone and speech is "neutral", All historic black church denominations are against homosexuality. Just look at when same sex marriage passed all the black denominations were quick to release press statements stating that they don't support homosexuality.

Then comes the issue of being a minority within a minority. Most black men are straight so they really cant relate or seem to not want to understand a gay man being attracted to another man. They see us as an "wierd other" or "not being a real man". Top that with being black and gay.

Even in the dominated gay culture "upper middle class (male) whiteness" is always advertised as the gay norm. When gay marriage pass there was a total lack of media representation of gay black male couples (minority couples also). That only helps many black ppl see being gay as a "non-black thing". Add on the HOtep folk who see black male gayness as a disease created by white folk to destroy the "Black man and HIS Black family".

Well, I said here last year to watch for things to return to (an)normal once Obama was out of office. If he does anymore work/speaking on behalf of LGBT issues, I expect the backlash from black folks to be louder post-presidency. Black support for gay issues while he was around was

Am I missing something? Obama? Is this a political question or did Obama say this or something?

(side note - because if your stating black people were accepting because Obama "spoke up" for LGBT people, where do you live? Because many black folk like Obama, but when it came to LGBT issues, black folk stood firm into their beliefs. Obama or not.)

My take on the question is a simple YES like @OhSheit said.

But for further clarity I'll say sadly my black people are simply so lost as a people on so many levels that being progressive thinkers in regards to sexuality will probably never be achieved. We are talking about a people that had a manufactured religion forced to them in which they still hold high till this day without questioning in the least how it began and its doctrine. And thats before you get to the social status of black people, black women and their constant feeling of worthlessness before the added feeling of they can't have black gay men, and the pure ignorance of the hetero black male mentality of what a "man" is and what he does.

Yea, black folk as a whole are anti-gay pre Obama and post Obama.

Last time I checked "Black People" are not a monolith and are derived from very many experiences. I think there need to be qualifiers of who exactly these black people are...is he referring to Black Evangelicals, Black Christians, Black Southerners, Black Northerners, Black Midwesterners, Africans, West Indes/Caribbeans, Black Americans in general, anytime anyone uses the words most or all, I am immediately skeptical. It would be much easier to say that most people are anti-gay that is a truer statement but it is also true that most people are not gay.

I will also bet, the person who wrote this FB status has never actually been anywhere other than 50 miles of where he was born and only know a certain segment of black people. His view/perspective is likely shaped by the very small world in which he exists. What he knows is probably what he sees on TV/Social Media.

Nah, the dude who wrote this is actually from my home city and he is very liberal/cultured. I know he is very VERY heterosexual as well. He was the main one saying, "I don't understand why being gay is such a big deal to Black people" in the thread...

I know for a lot of people their experiences are so limited that the only actual connection they have with LGBT people is what they consume through TV and Media. It's the same notion of people who are Islamaphobic or people who have racial animus. Some of the most afraid people are afraid of people they have never met or interact with in any meaningful way.

I also think the biggest homophobes, the ones that scream the loudest are usually the ones that are secretly that way and are projecting their hatred outwards.

I think by the certainty of numbers that white people are by far more anti-gay than any group. The radical evangelical Christian right spreads their theology like a virus not just in the United States but around the world.

It's not a political question. Regulars here at CA know that Ive said a few times pre-election any apparent new acceptance among black folk in the past few years would see a great social unraveling. The remark was an iteration not a swipe at the ex prez.

As for the communitiy/communities thing, MOST black folk, no matter how you genre slice them are homophobic. Yeah, some aren't but when you have a "race" of people that vote 90% to 10% in favor of one party (I hate all of the parties), or are mostly one religion, I feel free to make some gross generalities.

As for white folk, depends where you live. I can definitely vouch that most white folks in Chicago aren't as homophobic as Majority black church knuckleheads here are.

Most people are right handed. Most people live on less than $2 a day. Half of Americans don't vote that number increases within Black America. Most Americans die within 50 miles of where they were born. Blacks in America make up 14% of the population and yet we think it's fair or rooted in fact-based evidence that majority of us are homophobic or have some sort of anti-gay animus because of religious indoctrination or otherwise seem more like a correlation that is certainly not a causation. It seems like this is what the white gay elites accuse of being. The majority of the black people/Americans I encounter are solidly indifferent about gays, particularly in younger generations, just like every other demographic. Most people are not gay or fall within the LGBT spectrum. I will never understand why we continue to propel the notion that the Black Church is the standard of black life in America. I don't think it is in 2017.

It's becoming less and less the standard but you have to admit that the black church has formed the basis of many Black American ideals even today. 16 y/o Chris, who doesn't even live in a church-going household, dislikes like gay people. Why? Because his mama said it's not right because her mama said it's not right, so on and so on, ultimately because the bible did. It's insidious.

Large groups of people may only see the inside of a church on major holidays, if that, but still hold certain beliefs. These beliefs had been religious in etiology but had the religious component strained out over time and was subsequently passed down as unfounded disgust.

I think black folks sit between closeted anti-gay but approaching indifference.

Most groups of people on Earth are generally homophobic. Groups that are generally not homophobic are the exception. Much of white America is homophobic as hell. Look at South America, most of Asia(where are the civil rights for Chinese gays and Japan is quite homophobic). Look at Russia, any muslim areas from North Africa to the Middle East to South Asia(Bangladesh) to southeast Asia(Indonesia). Australia is not exactly bubbling over with love for gays. Even Canada is far from perfect. Beside a few enlightened spots here and there (some in Europe) not supporting gays is the rule.

How about comparing black Americans to blacks elsewhere...in South America, Africa, the Caribbean, etc.? I would bet the tolerance level is much higher among American blacks-again with some exceptions for blacks in Europe. Am I wrong?

Also are things moving in the right direction? How is black America now in regards to homosexuality compared to 20 or 30 years ago? This cannot be measured in years, progress must be measured in generations, with black gays whom straight black people love being open about themselves and causing ever larger numbers of straight blacks to think, 'wait..that is the person I love..that is my son/brother/sister/cousin/daughter...and I Love them...that is one of my own! -this must increasingly happen and it needs to happen through the pain of brave black men and women who are gay being themselves and being open and honest(at least to those closest to them who care about them). I have seen the changes in White America(and much of it through this type of pain)...and it is not perfect(far from it) but it is WAAAYYY better than it was despite This fucktard in the oval office.

JMHOO. (just my honest outsider opinion).

I think some comments on here are missing the mark. When those on here are saying, "what about white people? other groups are this etc? most people are this, Most people are that?" I thought the topic of the thread and short comment was about Black people specifically.

So who cares about most of the world being anti-gay or if most Americans don't vote.

The statement was Black people as a WHOLE being anti-gay.

Of course many black folk are indifferent and I do think many of black people today are better at LGBT inclusivness than years and years ago. But if you were to place a chart up surveying a spectrum of black people, as many as possible, and different generations, I'm almost positive it would still read the vast majority as being anti-gay with the other side being indifferent and the smallest side being totally accepting.

Dont automatically think that just because your tolerated now for being gay that they still don't have anti-gay feelings and thoughts that they just don't share.

    (Heath Ledger voice)"Why so serious?"

You probably know, but a lot still haven't caught on, half the shit I say in threads is trajectio ad absurdism to elicit responses out of people, not to necessarily be taken too seriously. But I like the reactions, it makes people think and respond in depth.

Bottom line, yeah, there's a whole world out there, not just black folk, who like to use LGBT folk as the old scapegoat standby. Same as it ever was, same as it never was...

My deleted response had nothing to do with anything you posted.

smh. Agree with the first. The second...really? The radical evangelical Xian right is the main representative of white people and white people as a whole(there was no qualifier) are more anti-gay than any group. But you don't want black people represented as a 'monolith' ....but did just that to white people.

So the white people in the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. are by far more anti gay than any other group, like muslim theocracies(and black people of course), even though they have been the first to pass legislation decriminalizing gay sex, removing homosexuality as a mental disorder, granting rights and protections to gays and lesbians, providing gay marriage, etc. etc. etc.

This from a US diplomat smh.

I guess since the KKK exists white people are all evil racist edomites hell bent on the destruction of all black people. I really need to reconsider why I am even on this site. Seriously.

I won't even respond to what else was written by another poster.

I think there is a considerable Catholic and Protestant radical conservative movement that is responsible for financing anti-gay movements around the world and in fact spreading white supremacy. Right now, there are white anti-gay missionaries "training" leaders in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. I think it is a misnomer so suggest that there is a considerable amount of pro-gay legislation happening. It is fair to say that in many western societies gay has been decriminalized but out of the 195 countries in the world, we are talking 20% that means 80% of the world being gay is a crime of some sort. There are many American organizations that are actively trying to keep that 20% where it is...and it's not black folks financing these movements or working in them or being missionaries to spread hate theology. 23 countries out of 195ish have expanded marriage to include same-sex partners (11%). I am simply not giving white folks a pass on being pro-gay when they are not.

The Islamic world is a whole other beast. Until we see mass movements of black people, black Americans in particular, signing up to proselytize and finance anti-gay movements, I will gladly keep that noose around the necks of white people.

I just love how in discussions about this topic, Black Community Defenders respond with paragraghs of deflection like, "White people are homophobic too!" or "What about the Westborough Baptist Church!"

What they never do is tackle the issue directly. I'd love to see them discuss this issue without mentioning other races or non-American Blacks. Or see them citing wide examples of the Black Community being accepting of gays, not just anecdotal stories about the parents or co-workers.

You disagree about black people being 'monolithic' and then apply that to whites and when called out on it cherry-pick some of the worst examples of whites while ignoring the rest. It is out and out hypocrisy. And your 'noose around the neck' comment is disgusting. I am ashamed and saddened that you represent this nation, hope that you are out of that position, and you can consider your racist ass on ignore.

Bro, this is a message board. Don't be a Sensitive Sally. I am sorry you don' feel as if you are in a safe space, where we can exchange ideas freely. No one is being hurt by this dialogue. But for you to suggest that I should somehow lose my job or that I possess racial animus against anyone or my country is hyperbolic. You don't know me outside of this Urkel Avatar and my comments on this message board. In my line of work, we use persuasion to advance arguments, not emotional outbursts.

Please let the ignored member know that I am not in need of a safe space, I am not mad(just very saddened and stunned by his response) and words matter and there are people, real people behind these profiles. I am exactly who I have said I am(why in the fuck would I be this person I am if I was a fake profile-I would be a hell of a lot better than what I am and present as on here). I am just done with this board-my place on here has been tenuous at best and there is really no hope of anything getting better for any time in the forseen future-the crazy extremes are winning-to the detriment of us all.

So Please deactivate my account and good luck to Cypher Avenue. If there ever was a place for me on this board, there is no place for me now.

Your account WILL NOT BE deactivated. If you were just some lurker I would say fuck you with no problem but you contribute, make valid point and passionately express your POV just like everybody else on the daily. However from time to time instead of just making your point and keep'n it moving, its like you internalized the responses as if the other members are your adversaries. You know these muthafuckers; you should know no one is trying to attack you personally. And if they are...fuck'em. WTF

And another damn thing....IF we all were at a bar together, this would be a run of the mill convo with no hurt feelings because we would be able to observe everyone's body language and see this shit is not serious.

*Note- the final below statement, I've directed to myself PLENTY of times when things have gotten heated in the boards.*

To use a hyper-toxic-masculine aggressive term (lol)..."man up"

So I am checking my email accounts and see a notification from this site...and check it expecting my asked for deactivation to be confirmed...and I see THIS! Well I never!(yeah an old woman saying and I don't give a fuck if y'all can wear rompers I can clutch my. mother. fucking. pearls.)

Fine then. But I still cannot wrap my head around a diplomat(not some dumb redneck backwoods Mississippi Republican) talking about putting any kind of 'noose' around the neck of an entire race of people and he should NOT have a diplomatic position if that is the way he really thinks.

I look at Liveleak, but I would never be a member of that site because it tolerates just that kind of sickening racism. Same thing for that asshole Sotomayor-yeah I had a thing for him(I still hate myself for that and have been getting over it)and I have watched his shit, but I would never subscribe to him, never leave an upvote for him, certainly never give him one. damn. cent. for his mansion rent and rent-a-hoes. I have to question what is up with this site when that kind of sickening analogy can just pass as ok? Are you all really ok with him talking about putting a metaphorical noose around the white race? How is that moving any conversation forward in any way, manner or fashion? That statement was the most shocking thing to me that I have ever read on this site given who it was coming from. I guess it is just me.

I am still just SHOCKED that someone I really looked up to and admired on here, someone so learned and educated and connected and well traveled could actually key that in and post that. Why am I on here? Nobody seems to want to actually do anything to fight the growing divide between blacks and whites-and since this election it is growing whether you know it or not. I can't help young black gay men who need guidance and come here-you all are doing that(African King comes to mind). Maybe a fifth wheel just needs to come off and roll away on it't own?

This has been on my mind and I have expressed it to another member before.

What is the purpose of the site (what does it do, what do the members want it to do?) and do I have a valid place in it?

There has to be more than this..and all these fuckers just lurking and not posting and the same stuff and complaining but who is actually trying to do something real-is this site nothing more than your and Nick's place to voice your opinions or complain(yeah that last part is aimed at Nick and the 'it ain't fair'. I know you all (or many of you)communicate off this site, know each other off this site, etc. but I am not a part of that and do not have that 'extra' level of the site. It can be disheartening to be an outsider(and you don't have to just be black and gay and masc or masc supporting blah blah blah to know what it is to be an outsider.

I am serious. Sorry but this camel's back has been weak. as. fuck. and this last stick was heavier than I ever could have anticipated.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*I do apologize for my 'racist ass' comment-that was over the line.

At any rate...you need to simma'down'nah

I have and will continue to purposely seek out and view all sorts of racist, alt-right, non-liberal, right leaning, white supremacist, ultra-liberal, feminist, queer, etc. leaning media because I don't feel I can fully contribute to the discussion if I don't set aside my own mental anger and biases and open up and receive what they have to say. Many times, I find myself agreeing with some of them on certain topics. One of my favorite books is written by a white supremacist. I'm not a Satanist but damn, many of their commandments I find righteous and fascinating. My point is I agree with a lot of people I disagree with. This has transformed me to being more in the middle on many issues and it seems like my drive to seek out and find the "middle" has increased.

Also, even though at times I may lash out and attack other members, its on topic and my intention is never personal. And if shit gets out of pocket...I feel I would try to be a decent honest man, apologize, dap-it-up and keep it moving.

Hell, you and others have gotten on my nerves in the past and I just ignored yall until I felt like being bothered.

Just a heads up...I'll most likely start ignoring you again right after this comment.

I certainly don't aim to offend and clearly, I did that today in a post that I wrote and for that I am sorry. I, by virtue of my experience often write in expressive and descriptive ways and the noose imagery was a response from the lynching picture that was posted, it must have triggered something and for that I am sorry.

I engaged this post as I often engage hundreds of other comments on this site to simply offer my two cents, whatever that is worth. We all come here with our own experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives and I think that is what makes this space unique.

Throughout my life, these last 31 years, I have worked to bridge divides, that is what I am doing in my current professional work. I don't harbor racism and racial intolerance or any of the other isms we regularly debate here. In fact, I despise it. I don't want you to leave here thinking that my comments reflect anything other than engaging in a debate about a topic that was posted here, on these boards. I have until today had a level of comfort with the men who also engaged these boards to express my perspective. I have always thought that we can take or leave whatever we want from these comments sections. Today, we had a disagreement on the merits or demerits of black people being anti-gay or whatever. I offered my own anecdotes from a perspective I have, a perspective I know.

I don't want these comments to reflect the kind of person you think I am or the work that I do on behalf of a truly grateful nation. At the end of the day, we won't agree with every person we meet and the power of persuasion doesn't always work out. I truly hope we can move on from this thread like the gentlemen that I think we are. In any case, I hope that you will continue to debate, comment, and share because you never know how you can impact someone else. For nearly 5 years, I engaged in the delicate but intentional work of diplomacy and today it seems that I missed the mark on tact and intention.

Facts all day. The heteronormative mentality and culture of the Black community with human sexuality has to be destroyed to conquer Anti-Gayness.

Until then "Black Menz sucking a dick is a Nasty!"

Well, I guess it's been a rough day for everyone, lol. Google wiped out my old email for some damn reason, so I lost my gazillion daps and all. Regardless, as @Ockydub stated, we shouldn't take the linearity of Internet discussions any different than we would bar talk.

I apologized for the part I felt I should apologize for. But that is it. I am not going to pretend that the comment did not offend me and change my entire perception of that person-that would be bullshit. So be it. That is what the ignore button is for.

And speaking of ignoring me....why did you have to say that? So you just ignore all of my shit on here?

I do not know why you liberals always seem to put this burden on Black people, haven't they suffered enough? I also find it funny how you talk about this but yet the Elephant in the room which we are ALL denying is those thousands upon thousands of deleted emails from the Hilary Clinton campaign.
