At What Age Did You Have Your Ideal Body?

    I'm still a younger guy but I know with age comes differences in what you look like physically and the motivation to keep working out dwindles a bit. This past holiday season I put on about 10LBS. Cool its not uncommon for me to do so. What was uncommon was the length of time it took me to take off those pounds. I'm usually able to shake back within 2 weeks... This year it took about double that time. My question to all the older gentleman here, What changes did/do you notice while progressing in age? Were you able to work around those things and get back to your self? Note I'm below the age of 30 but its not around the corner anymore its right down the block and I'd like to start things now that set me up for a smooth transition. Also at what age were you at your ideal health?

    I'm off and on with my "ideal" body so I cant really pin point an exact age, as there are many. Right now I'm off. LOL In the past and to this day it usually takes me about 3-4 weeks to get into what I call a "generally decent/ acceptable" body shape for my height. Some would argue I'm there now, but we're all our own worst critics. I'm only a skip and a jump away from 40yo, but the only real difference I see with my gettin' back into shape is my motivation to go to the gym. It's harder and harder for me to get "amped" to go, but once I'm there and in a routine, thankfully, the pounds drop off exactly the same.

    I've never had what I would consider to be my ideal body and I'm almost 39. However when I was 29 I was in pretty good shape. I was also in pretty good shape the summer 2014 and just a month ago before starting my new job. I've been working so many hours the job eats up all my gym time.

    I've heard the motivation goes down from some individuals I know. How do you become motivated now?

    I haven't gotten it back yet. I've always worked out alone, so Im trying to find someone to have as a workout partner to see if that brings some motivation, if not for the comradery then at least from a competition perspective.

    Let me clarify this...My "motivation" is when I start seeing my body tighten up. Once that happens (around the 2 week mark) then I start pushing myself and wanting to go more and more and stay longer and longer and work out harder.. But lately, for me to be motivated enough to commit to those 3-4 weeks of 3-5 day a week workouts has become more difficult. Thats why I want to try change it up and start going with a partner. If I could get through a week or two that way, then I'll have forced myself back into a routine and I'll be good to go on my own again.

    26. I have a photo to prove it.

    However I'm thicker with higher body fat but stronger than I was then too. So I'd say that in comparison to then and now, I cancel things out between the two different bodies.

    I'm working in reigning things back in but....

    This is so true.

    However, people can still get their body right, they just have to put in more effort and finding what works for them and their body. I'm working on my IIFYM numbers now.

    Yes, I notice a big difference. At 18 I was a 130lb weakling. At 28 I was a strong 170lbs. At 38 I was even stronger than at 28 but about the same weight. I just have more aches and pains.

    Definitely. I am stretching and doing what looks like very bad things to my lacrosse balls and foam rollers for relief. My back is noticeably wider and I have knots in it I didn't know I had until I hit it with the lacrosse ball.

    Yessir. This sh!t is truth, and the reason I can get down to an "ideal" body type (some soft cuts/ definition) but I've never gotten down to a "fitness magazine" body, only when I left Basic Training, and that was brief. LOL Proper diet really is the key to success, but it's the HARDEST thing to adjust, especially for an Old Head like myself that's accustomed to eating whatever I want. lol

    I've never had it. Trying to get there now and think I can be pretty close to a satisfying shape within a year. I was closest about 2 years ago at 28. I was significantly overweight for most of my life and finally got close to a recommended weight (by medical professionals, not my family) for once by changing dietary habits and being a bit more active. Dropped my clothing sizes and had less of a curvy shape for the first time.

    That was cool. I was just at the upper barrier of average weight and trying to go lower yet some expressed concern, possibly because my once chubby-cheeked face looked slightly gaunt. Mom asked me to see a doctor when I had and he was happier about my weight than he'd ever been. One friend subtly inferred that he wondered if I was sick.

    I think for some of them overweight is the new average and obese is their fat. They'd tell a healthy lean person that they're skinny. Reminds me of some commenters on this video saying the guy in the L2BF shirt isn't fat or just husky, which I thought most would question when he takes it off around 7:07.

    There are people in much worse shape and he looks like he may have a decent amount of muscle--kinda like a more out of shape version of Prince Fielder, the baseball player that did the ESPN body issue--but I think the number of terms used to describe various overweight states and the different ways some use them has made the meanings of fat/thick/curvy/husky/chubby/cornfed/beefy/"a few extra" somewhat nebulous. Maybe my people just prefer a somewhat hefty build. They see it regularly in our extended family, at work and in their friends.

    I hope you are joking on the alone part because people get that into their heads and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

    As far as working out, you have to do that for you if you want to. You will never be able to please other people with a nice body. Even the ideal types get cheated on and done wrong. People either accept you as you are or not.

    I never used to believe this, but it's very true, man. It IS a self fulfilling prophecy, and one that is not so easily reversed by changing your mentality, either.

    No never do for other people because you will not remain motivated. The motivation is always best when it is intrinsic (from within).

    @NickAuzenneNOLA I don't know what you're complaining about you're doing better than most on here. If I can get to where you're at now I'll be a happy camper. I've slimmed down so much from 220 to 185 in 2015. I have lean muscle gains but still have some body fat so I just want to get shredded. As much as grad school allows because anything medical is not easy but I still see some medical students and other allied health students here that are SH*TT*N ON N*GGAS! lol. I don't know their stories. Maybe they were athletes? Maybe they just grasp materials quicker? Not sure.

    I'm making slow progress to my "ideal" body and I'm 28. From reading and getting into my own health and sifting through all the info out there, it seems one can reach and maintain optimum health at any age.

    I've a similar experience my back is wider now than when I was younger. I attribute that tone using different hand positions for pull downs. I just did wide grip in my 20s. My legs are bigger now because I don't skip leg days, and my chest is bigger because I do incline and decline as well as flat bench. When I was younger I just did flat bench.

    When I was 27/28 I was performing in a touring show where I had to dance topless, and in addition to the gym, the show itself was a helluva workout. Im still no gym slouch, but I was lookin pretty dope then.

    I've always been relatively skinny & have put on a lil weight over the years. I'd say that when I hit 27, I started embracing the slight "thickness" in certain areas. This continues on til this day. I'm small framed and as the years go on, I don't even care about obtaining abs or having a Blatino Oasis poster body. I got my cakez back and a slight pudge thess days but I'm not even worried about it like I was in the early 20's. I can say that I'm grumpier around kids....I'm turning into a grumpy old man & need a grumpy old sidekick..

    I looked and felt my best from my mid/late 20's to my late 30's.
    Never was into being cut up but I did lot's of push-ups and cardio.
    I have a large frame and can put weight on really easily so it's better that I stay active and during the NY winter cold weather I tend to do just the opposite.
    Never was a big soda drinker but I find that as I get older that I am affected by everything I eat or drink, meaning no more ½ dozen Krispy Kreme binges on the weekends. I also have to maintain a cut off time for meals and there is more importance on the meal having proper balance.
    All of the gradual physical changes I that I feel really suck (and not the good kinda suck) cold weather pains, can't stay awake all night anymore, takes me longer to walk up 12 flights of stairs and now do it only once a day. The upshot is that I can still walk up 12 flights of stairs.
    My main motivation when I was younger for staying in shape was mostly vanity. Now I actually feel the necessity to keep myself up, that and straight guys in workplace locker room settings can be really super overly observant and catty about any weight fluctuations they notice.

    Everyone should strive to improve themselves. But I think that no amount of healthy eating and exercise is going to make a person feel "ideal" if that's not how they feel on the inside. I definitely don't have an IG model body, but I feel like I accept my body as is. Not complacent, but I feel like I don't have to fit a specific image. Right now I'm at my ideal body because I like what I am. Would it be nice to have chiseled abs and all that? Yeah. I've been eating healthier and exercising more. But my ideal body is more mental than physical. And I feel like I'm already there.
