Black Gay Pride Events

What are your thoughts on these events?
I {personally} didn't sense any "gay pride" at these types of events when I used to go to them. While I did enjoy myself in those days, I started to notice that it wasn't so much about "pride" as it was a big Hook Up Free-for-All, and that's not to undermine or insult them in any way. If that one's thing then by all means, indulge, I did. As far as the pride piece of it, there was no sense of "pride" or gay camaraderie, just the same cliques that one sees on any given night at the club doing and saying the usual catty shit and being shady to everyone thats not part of their group.

As long as you can walk, and you enjoy that type of environment, keep at it.

 

Cosign. I think you summed it up quite well. I attended my last black gay pride when I was 29. I'm 39 now so that should tell you something.

 

Yeah, last time I went to Pride here in NYC I was about 24/25yo. I had a blast but I also knew that was it for me. I wanted my last memory to be a good one.

 

Miami Sizzle was the best for me. I do think you should attend at least one as a sort of a "gay right of passage." If not...meh

 

Let me find out @Ockydub was down to the gay party?! Lol. My rebound ex won best body at the 2014 sizzle, so Im not too far removed. But I just cant imagine being around that many gays n not being annoyed. Esp the amount of fems...YES! I said it...

 

Yes there were fems but just as many "in between" to masc dudes also. AND Miami is a large city and Sizzle takes place on Hip Hop weekend also. So I saw a large mix of people...I wasn't entrenched in the gheys as you LOL

Nah real talk, i got a mssg abt some gay party in the Poconos, n i gave it a look, but the last 2 parties were advertsed sex parties. As in, THE EVENTS. Why couldn't that just be an unspoken 'thing'? Call me a prude, but that was a major turn off for what could have been billed as a blk gay weekend turnup. (Sex party avail for those interested by word of mouth)!

Str8 folks been using all the lingo for a minute now. 'Shade' used to be 'gay' at a point, too..

Like @alton said, they are less about pride and more about the debauchery.

Now, there's nothing wrong with that aspect of it because the events do serve a purpose. Most of these men and women don't have an outlet in Ragweed, Arkansas to "be themselves" or get that man on man (or men) release they need so I'm not dogging pride events, but we need to "call a thing a thing". Dudes will be at a pride event, far and away from people they know, and still act closeted or uncomfortable.

 

Since we callin a thing a thing, then I vote to change the name from " {insert appropriate ethnicity(s)} Gay Pride Festival " to " {insert appropriate ethnicity(s)} Hot Ho'n & Sickening Shade Fest"

 

They're definitely what you make them to be. I just got back from Tempted2Touch in Vegas and while I was there to party with my friends (gays and lesbians), some of which I had met way back when I went several years ago. I didn't sleep with anyone, but my best friend definitely takes the opportunity to, uh, diversify his portfolio when at these kinds of functions. Both of us had a great time. Some of the larger prides will have little seminars and workshops that have educational/cultural meaning, but it's largely a a bunch of circuit and sex parties.

Again, it's all in what you're looking for. But I do think it's great to see the diversity that is the community, and in that sense, Pride is largely applicable.

 

@Nick Delmacy has replied with a post of a tree casting shade-an obvious reference to 'shade' or 'shading' after receiving a sassy retort-don't make me look it up now.... That is at least 3/4ths of actually posting the word itself!
