    LOL....not a “homophobic smear piece”

Update (Jan. 23, 11:27 a.m.): Bryan Singer has responded to the allegations in the Atlantic report, characterizing it as a “homophobic smear piece” and denying the claims within:

“The last time I posted about this subject, Esquire magazine was preparing to publish an article written by a homophobic journalist who has a bizarre obsession with me dating back to 1997. After careful fact-checking and, in consideration of the lack of credible sources, Esquire chose not to publish this piece of vendetta journalism. That didn’t stop this writer from selling it to The Atlantic. It’s sad that The Atlantic would stoop to this low standard of journalistic integrity. Again, I am forced to reiterate that this story rehashes claims from bogus lawsuits filed by a disreputable cast of individuals willing to lie for money or attention. And it is no surprise that, with Bohemian Rhapsody being an award-winning hit, this homophobic smear piece has been conveniently timed to take advantage of its success.”

    The original post continues below:

Bryan Singer has been accused of sexually abusing and raping numerous underage boys in a new report published in The Atlantic. The outlet says its writers spoke with 50 sources, including four men who have never come forward before. Two of them said they were 15 and 17, respectively, when they first met and allegedly had sex with Singer in 1997; Singer was in his 30s at the time, and knew both boys were underage, they claim. The age of consent in California is 18. Through his attorney, Singer has denied the allegations. He also pre-emptively denied the allegations in an Instagram post in October, when Esquire was reportedly working on the story. He has not yet responded to Vanity Fair’s request for comment.

The director has been hit with similar allegations before; claims that he raped or abused underage boys have followed Singer nearly since he was catapulted to the A-list in 1995, when he directed the breakout hit The Usual Suspects. Despite the allegations, however, Singer has enjoyed continued success as a producer and director of high-profile films, like the lucrative X-Men franchise. Most recently, he directed the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which has since grossed almost $800 million worldwide and has been nominated for five Oscars, including a best actor nod for Rami Malek. But Singer was fired from that film just weeks before shooting wrapped, apparently because he was repeatedly absent from the set; Singer claimed at the time that he was dealing with an ailing parent.

Malek, the star of Bohemian Rhapsody, spoke the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday after receiving an Oscar nomination. When asked about past Singer allegations, the actor said that he was not aware of previous claims against Singer. “I didn’t know much about Bryan,” he said. “I think that the allegations and things were, believe it or not, honestly something I was not aware of, and that is what it is.”

One of the accusers who spoke to the Atlantic is Victor Valdovinos, who alleges Singer sexually abused him when he was 13 years old. He was a student at Eliot Middle School in Altadena at the time, where Singer came to shoot his 1997 film Apt Pupil. Valdovinos claims that Singer asked him to be an extra in the film; later, he claims, he was told by a crew member to disrobe, put on a towel, and wait in a locker room. According to Valdovinos, Singer eventually entered the room, made small talk, and began molesting him.

Through his attorney, Singer claimed he did not know Valdovinos and denied the allegations. He also stated that he could find no record of Valdovinos having been an extra on the film, questioning why Valdovinos did not have documentation (like a pay stub) to support his claim. (A scene in the film in which minors aged 14 to 17 are seen showering led to a series of lawsuits against Singer and the production; the minors claimed that they had been bullied into stripping naked by members of the crew. No criminal charges were pressed, and the suits were settled for an undisclosed sum.)

After the Harvey Weinstein scandal began unfolding in 2017, Valdovinos contacted attorney Jeff Herman—who is also representing Singer accuser Cesar Sanchez-Guzman—and another lawyer to see if he could take action against Singer, but was told that the statute of limitations had run out. In December, he contacted Singer’s attorney and warned him about the forthcoming Atlantic article. “I would like to get an apology and a settlement from Bryan,” he wrote. “I prefer this article not come out and have my name and picture all over the news.” He did not receive a reply.

The Atlantic also digs into the story of the Digital Entertainment Network, a Hollywood start-up Singer invested in around the time he began shooting his first X-Men movie. Its goal, the Atlantic writes, was to produce “shows and movies for 14-to-24-year-olds, with an emphasis on stories for gay teens, and distribute them online.” The start-up’s C.E.O. was Marc Collins-Rector; his co-founder was Chad Shackley. Per the Atlantic, their relationship began when Collins-Rector was 32 and Shackley was 16. (In 2000, Collins-Rector was later indicted of transporting a minor, who was not named, across state lines for the purpose of sex; he fled the country and was a fugitive for almost two years, then was arrested in Spain. Authorities “discovered a cache of weapons and 8,000 images of child pornography in the villa where he was living,” the Atlantic notes. He was extradited to the U.S. and pleaded guilty to nine charges of transporting a minor across state lines for the purpose of sex.)

Per subsequent lawsuits, criminal complaints, and a federal investigation, the Atlantic notes, the Encino mansion where DEN was launched became “a party house where teenage boys were allegedly given alcohol and drugs, encouraged to have sex with older men, and in some cases raped.” Singer was not named in any of the suits, but there are accusers who allege that they were abused by him after being brought into the DEN fold.

    I'll say it again...

There should be a program for people who think/feel they are attracted to the underaged where they can her therapy BEFORE they act on their tendencies.

Not that people would go but at least they would have the option available.

    I bet they won't have a #blindSinger though.
