I feel like Wonder Woman is WB last stand. If that movie sucks (most likely will) they need to hire Marvel folks as subcontractors. Civil War is basically the epitome on how to make a super hero film. OMG and Spiderman, AntMan and Black Panther

Definitely on my weekend list, so I'll follow up after seeing. I'm in it for The Falcon, my favorite since I was a kid. I know Black Panther is all the rage, especially with Coates writing for it these days, but I've been Falcon stan since being a shorty in Jimmy Carter era. Had the action figure and all the comics, which meant a lot for a black boy back then. Falcon wasn't a sidekick he was an actual partner; Run to Cap's DMC.

When they threw in Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man" and gave CA2 the whole 70s "French Connection"/"Three Days of The Condor" cinematic vibe, Marvel created a mix that was guaranteed to get dollars out of me like a big brown booty stripper. CA2 got me to go back into comic art myself, so if CA3 is all that, Ima half to take some days off from work.

I'll wait on SvB for Redbox, despite the Wonder Woman cheers. Hated da fukk outa Man of Steel and it seems like SvB is even worse from the reviews. DC should just stick to TV. With Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow they seem to handle and own the small screen the way Marvel owns the big screen (i'm keeping the receipt and returning Gotham to customer service, tho...)

There are so many compliments I have for this movie. Iron Man was much more sympathetic here than he was in the Civil War comics. They also did a great jon juggling all of the characters, while sitll having an interesting story and excellent action. The camera work was awesome.I don't even usually notice that kind of thing but it made me feel like I was in the fights. It was actually much better than I expected.Originally,I didn't want to compare to it to Batman v Sociopath, but so much of this is what I wanted that movie to be.The central characters had very interesting opposing sides (rather than being hypocrites who hate each other for doing the same things) ,the action had a real purpose and was compelling, and every hero was used so well,in a way that showed respect to their pasts, and developed them further .I'm proabably going to see this again at least once.

Finally saw the movie, and yes, it was ALL THAT. Loved it as much as CA2. It's just (slowly backs away and ducks behind the sofa to avoid the thrown bottles), I'm just not all that crazy about Black Panther as a character. I've already stated I'm Falcon stan, so admittedly I'm biased. After I went to college and made real friends from the continent, I tend to look at made-up African stuff (cough, cough...Kwanzaa..cough, cough) like Wakanda with a cold eye. I know, I'm thinking WAY too hard about a comic book movie!

Plus, I just hate all kings and monarchies; black, white, African, European, Asian, don't matter. I used to hate those Budweiser posters in college. "We were kings and queens in Africa before slavery!" No, we weren't. ONE person was king, the rest of us were the king's footstool. I guess that's part of my BP lukewarmness. As Eric Idle's peasant character said in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "How do I know he's a king (Arthur)? He ain't got shiit all over him like we do!" lol

So, all that to say: MORE FALCON SOLO MOVIES DAMMIT!!!
    :feedme:
So glad that Anthony Mackie got a great gig these days. Makes up for his having to suffer through Spike Lee's "She Hate Me"!

I loved Civil War. It did a good job of not making either side look completely wrong (though Tony Stark is the most amazingly unlikable super hero ever lol.) And Black Panther showed up and showed out. The brief line one of his Dora Milaje had still has me geeked out. I'm really looking forward to the next phase of movies.

Cooking with Vision, huh? I want to go shopping with dude. I was tripping on that Eddie Bauer ensemble he was wearing when they discussed the accord. The only thing missing from that casual wear shot was a Dos Equis bottle in his hand and he would be the most interesting android in the world.

I saw the movie this weekend and it is amazing. Captain America is my go to superhero so I knew I would enjoy it. I like that fact that they mixed action flick with spy suspense / political drama. My three favorite movie types in one film.

Agreed. And I saw on Wikipedia that the Russo Brothers are doing the next two Avengers movie, so they already have my guaranteed money for two more tickets! I like Wheddon, but A2 made me think he ran out of steam.

I don't know, I really liked CA:CW, even though it shares almost nothing with the comic at all, save the name, and a bunch of characters switched sides for the movie (Black Widow and Black Panther were Anti-Registration, not pro, to start with) and the movie was a tad bit long, but otherwise it's a fuckin Avengers movie with a assload of characters and Marvel's action sequences and fight choreography is unmatched, and I do be geekin the fuck out with them team poses, so I definitely put this one in the win pile.

But I don't totally agree with the whole BP thing you mentioned, I loved Black Panther in this movie and I'm left not being able to wait for his solo flick next year. Marvel got dude right in this movie, he whooped ass and he wasn't watered down (except for maybe the few minutes he fought Captain America - whose ass he whipped in the comics, but I guess the white fanboys wouldn't have handled that on screen too well)...

Black Panther to me, though, is the complete opposite of what you're saying when it comes to monarchy. I get your problem with the concept, and how it's played in reality, but Black Panther as a character is the exact opposite. Yes, Wakanda is imaginary, and so is the character, but T'Challa is and has always been the antithesis of a monarch. His rule is ultimately earned, not given through birth, he rules as a servant of the people, not on their backs. The laws of Wakanda rule his life and is what dictates his actions, so in truth, he is less free than the people of his country. His superhuman abilities are gifted to him through the panther god and they come with expectations and he could very well lose those abilities if he were to mishandle himself or Wakanda.

Good points. I thought the character in the movie was well done, the monarchy thing is a personal beef of mine. I understand what Lee and Kirby were trying to do by making him a king; it was a 1960s liberal white guy trying to make a black character as powerful and heroic as they understood from their cognitive framework. That's my own hangup, I'm only willing to suspend belief so much, which is why I hated the fuk out of Man of Steel. There's enough real greatness in Black American and African history, those elements should be woven into stories, not ignored. For example, the movie portrayed Wakanda as being where Rwanda is (did the filmmakers not understand geography?). The reality of Rwanda, post-genocide, is greater to me than any fictional story. A landlocked nation turns itself around from a bloodsoaked massacre to becoming a high-tech leader on the continent, despite being landlocked and having no access to ocean or sea ports and traffic. So, the writers for the comic or the film don't have to make shyt whole-cloth when there is so much real greatness that can be worked into an African hero's narrative.

I'll be the first to admit, however, I never really read BP stuff as a kid, except for when Jack Kirby returned to the character briefly in the late 70s. Those stories were probably nothing like any other BP stories before or since, as he basically wrote and drew BP as a Jimmy Olsen/New Gods type character (which I enjoyed, as I stan for all things Kirby). I know most of what constitutes BP today was written long after Kirby left the scene.
