George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers Adaptation Has Found a Cast

After almost a year of hopes, rumors, and hints, it’s official: Syfy will adapt George R.R. Martin’s scifi novella Nightflyers, announcing a series pickup for the long-in-the-works adaptation today. But that’s not the only news about the show, which has now also found the intrepid crewmates of the titular starship as well.

Confirmed in a press release today, Nightflyers, which is being co-produced with Netflix, will air on Syfy in the US, with Netflix having first-run rights internationally. Although Martin himself will have an executive producer credit on the show, it will primarily be overseen by showrunner Daniel Cerone (The Blacklist, Constantine) and executive producer Jeff Buhler (who wrote the pilot Syfy had previously ordered).

As well as the series order, Syfy also announced the show’s primary cast, the scientist crew of the Nightflyer itself, tasked with exploring the outer edges of the solar system and ultimately surviving the terrifying encounters that await them. Boardwalk Empire’s Gretchen Mol will lead the cast as Dr. Agatha Matheson, and is joined by Merlin’s Eoin Macken as Karl D’Branin, David Ajala as Roy Eris, Sam Strike as Thale, Teen Wolf’s Maya Eshet as Lommie, Mad Max: Fury Road’s Angus Sampson as Rowan, Jodie Turner-Smith as Melantha Jhirl, and The Magicians’ Brían F. O’Byrne as Auggie.

Syfy’s Nightflyers adaptation doesn’t have an estimated premiere date yet, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
