So it's been months since I last posted about the UK grime/hip hop scene.

It's time for an update peeps.

If you wanna impress your friends, check out Stormzy and Lil Simz. He's ugly like sin, but talented AF. And Lil Simz? Someone needs to give her an award.

This is from her Edge mixtape, which is downloadable. Her flow is like Kendrick's. Why doesn't she get more appreciation? Whatevs she gets mad daps from me.

Storzy is blowing UP. He's the future. Love him. He's dropping his first album, Gang Signs & Prayer later this month. I'm definitely picking it up.

If y'all hear anything else about the scene, please add to this! I need to stay up-to-date.

    Cheers.

The only person I really enjoyed when I had a small Grime musical exploration so to speak was TINIE TEMPAH. I loved his 1st album! I did also like Dizzie Rascal & especially CHIPMUNK.

    Ayyeee this is such a good pick-up @jpo !

I was reading more about it in The Guardian- it's real. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that #grime4corbyn exists, esp seeing that most HipHop/R&B/grime stars are more liberal than say country music peeps.

At first I didn't know how to feel about overt mentions of politics in music. But when I thought about it more, a lot of music is de facto counter-revolutionary and contra-authoritarian. At the same time, music is an escape from the shit that's around us. So yeah MC stormzy is there to entertain primarily, but I think once in a while I'm ok with him (and others) voicing frustration at current politics. As long as his artistry doesn't solely become about politics.

Read a little more about the #grime4corbyn movement here. It's worth the read.
