    I watched the Steve Harvey show about a hour ago. The show was dealing with Gang Violence in Chicago and everyone in the audience knew or have someone killed by gang violence. A pastor spoke on the main issue that many felons face after release-intertwining back into society. They are looked at with disdain and not given a fair chance.

    Chicago as of yesterday has had 85 murders already, which is double what it was this time last year. There were 468 murders last year. This is a very bad start to this year.

    Memphis is at 32, and has one fourth of the population of Chicago.

    This violence is a National Health Crisis and needs to be recognized as such.

    It's a problem that can't be swept under the rug anymore. It had to be at least a 100 people in the audience and everybody had a picture up. Come on this is crazy

    As bad as it is, murder rates overall are still way under what they were during the seventies, much of the eighties, and especially the early 90's. Chicago used to have about 900 murders a year, and only slightly more people than it has now. The nation has just gotten complacent and it has become 'normal' for many young black men to just die violently.

    homicide is still the leading cause of death for young black men. It is not right, it has never been right, and it needs to be addressed as a continuing health crisis and a national disgrace that has been going on for nearly half a century.

    Wow. It is crazy. I used to volunteer at one of the local schools. I should get my lazy ass up and find a program that I can relate to. You never know who you are reaching.
