ESSENCE Scroll down for sexy images of our celebrity 'male models' including Trevor Jackson, Broderick Hunter, Winston Duke, Quincy Brown and more! AVON DORSEY Dec, 30, 2018 2017 was the year that we first-introduced our wildly popular, men’s fashion page titled ‘Style Your Guy.’ What started out as a few random answers to some of our reader’s style-related inquiries regarding the questionable fashion choices of the men in their lives, increasingly became an open dialogue about male grooming and men’s dressing– on a larger scale. We received phone calls and emails from ESSENCE subscribers asking us to help them get their guys dressed. So, we began producing fashion segments with male models wearing various runway trends, while outlining some of the do’s and don’ts of men’s fashion (view our video above). The success of our men’s fashion segments led us to bring the live-action over to our print editorial pages, and with the help of Jussie Smollett –our first, men’s celebrity style model– a new franchise was born. Since the inception of our ‘Style Your Guy’ page, we’ve added a few more heavy-hitters to that list of celeb male models, including Trevor Jackson, Broderick Hunter, Winston Duke, and most recently, Quincy Brown. Not only has our in-house fashion team broken the internet with ‘SYG’ content –in 2018– we’ve also created iconic magazine cover images with the styling of some of our favorite guys, including Michael ‘Bae’ Jordan and Kofi Siriboe. Scroll through our celebrity ‘male model’ gallery below to see images of all the hot guys that we styled and slayed this past year– we promise you won’t be disappointed. Just not into the hair buns no matter how good looking the dude ... it’s not 1991 and you’re not in a Dee-Lite video lol
Speaking of buns...this is soooo not the point of this thread, but I am soooo tired of them trying to make Quincy Brown a thing. Like, he just epitomizes 'I'm only here because Diddy's my dad, and because I'm mixed, ppl think I'm cute.' I can't knock anyone for using their connections to get in the door, but I can and do hate not calling a spade a spade.
wait, aint his dad al b sure? we not still calling light skint blk ppl mixed in 2019, are we? Lol also, i clicked on this thread b/c i saw "speaking of buns" on the recent activity stream. these ain't the kind of buns i came looking for #disappointed
Come on now. We're not still running around acting like black ppl just became light skinned out of nowhere, are we? Regardless of what his Ancestry DNA kit reveals, we know that his 'mixed' look is his 'appeal', if you will.
I noticed. I chose to remain silent. The photographer and the editor knew what they were doing. While I mentally gave them a high five, I rewarded them with my reverential silence.
i didn't comment on his light skin appeal at all. i commented on the assumption that light skinned blk ppl are mixed. if we going by a far reaching/technical definition, then you get to be mixed, i get to be mixed, we all get to be mixed!!!! a great grandmom getting raped during slavery does not make a person biracial. plenty of us been light skinned for generations. if your mom (kim porter) blk and your dad (al b sure) blk, congratulations you blk.
FWIW, one only has to looked mixed/multi racial these days. No one cares about the technicalities involved. I have gotten the "are you mixed?" question since Head Start. My mom is light skinned. Her mom dark, her dad light. My dad was medium toned His mom light skinned and dad dark skinned. We're still in an America where generally light skinned black people, a set that multiracial black people fall into, get an extra point or so added to their appeal quotient. That's the point I think @SB3 is making.
This totally went unnecessarily left, but maybe if I had inserted a 'look', as in, LOOK mixed, my point would have stayed easy to get. Wasn't about him being light skinned, at all. He looks like his name could be Quincy Debarge, w a blk mom and white dad, and no one would second quess it. Also, let us remember that 'mixed' and 'biracial' aren't one in the same.
Good. Cause I want to take Winston country thick looking self home with me. Though Wendell would probably wake up with a Just for Men combed in over that Justin Timberlake 1999 Frosted hairstyle dealing with me.
Dude relax.... Why you light skin bashing. lol (joking). I agree and disagree with you though as far as Quincy. Of course he's here and got many doors open because of Diddy. And yes, his acting is probably, ehhhh, at best. But dude got a GREAT face too IMO. He is very attractive. And with those kind of looks he probably could have made something out of himself even without Diddy as his dad. Good looks will always open doors no matter what. Talent will keep those doors open.
Trust, I like em light and dark. Spent about 50 years w a 'mixed looking' mofo. As long as he has a pulse... But I guess that's the difference. I'm just not attracted to him. Certainly wouldn't call him an unattractive guy, but he just doesn't do it for me. But hey, you def prove that I can't speak for everyone.
