    Being the cynical MBA, I think PG/Gillette was trying to get free buzz by deliberately goading social media and waiting for the controversy like those fashion companies that put out provocatively racist or anti Semitic items, feign ignorance, apologize and claim lesson learned, then cash in on the resulting outrage PR.

    OR...they had research that showed lady/women’s razors market had room for growth, so generate buzz for potential female consumption by virtue signaling.

    One can be pro business like me and still realize many corporations are cynical and full of shit. I doubt Gillette gives two shits about masculinity, however defined, and is jumping on the MeToo bandwagon because now is the good timing to be seen as female adjacent and coast on social media without spending ad dollars, like gold peddlers on Fox News in 2008.
