As some of you know from our previous Podcast, @Ockydub suggested that Presidential Candidate Donald Trump is actually a Liberal (or centrist) Democrat based on his statements and views in the past.

What do you think? Has the last 8 years of racist, xenophobic and misogynistic comments all been an act just to fool the GOP into electing him into office?

He's either an extreme contrarian or extremely bi-polar.
Nothing he ever says matches up.

I think he is a psychopath. I think at least half of the GOP original candidates would qualify.

What is that dog in your avatar? is it a whippet?

Here's my little crazy theory. I think that Hilary Clinton made an agreement with Trump. She told him to run for the GOP and be as wacky and crazy as possible to get support from the tea party base. This would make him a front runner and take out the some of the GOP candidates (ie Jeb Bush). It also creates instability in the party and draws the party extremely way to the left so its really hard for a moderate republican to win ie Jeb Bush. So now all she has to worry about is little Bernie who she probably views as light weight. This is a walk in the party compared to what she went through in 2008 with Obama.

This is one of the conspiracy theories I heard. But one of my personal conspiracy theories is that his whole campaign was designed by the Republican Party, but went haywire. They wanted to paint a picture of a guy that was so extreme that people couldn't possibly vote for him. It would make all the other Republican candidates seem mild by comparison. Essentially, it was a failed attempt at trying to rebrand the rest of the Republican Party as not as extreme, racist, or xenophobic as Trump. Not sure how that plan is holding up now.

I think Trump is naturally a moderate...I think he's probably always been fiscally conservative, socially liberal and probably culturally liberal/moderate. He's never disavowed single payer he just says it's too late in the United States. I don't believe his shifts on abortion. I don't think he believes half the shit he says but it sells to the GOP base so why not. If he could have found an angle that worked better with Democrats he probably would have ran in that primary.

The most scary thing about Trump is his inherent authoritarianism. He has the mindset and temperament of a tyrant. We can only guess what a Trump presidency would be like and that is what is really scary.

I completely agree with almost everything in this, except the last sentence lol. Fiscal conservatism outweighs all the others and the Republican party will always have big business and personal wealth at the forefront of their policies, so he'll stay firmly rooted in the party, whether he sways on other issues or not. Trump may be a lot of things, but a true liberal democrat he is not lol.

Also, so many people are worried about the rise of Trump, but he isn't the real threat from the Republican side, it's Ted Cruz, and to some extent, Marco Rubio. They are both obstructionists and believe is some truly scary things. Ted Cruz led the charge to shut down the government and the policies he's in support of and has tried to put forth in Texas are alarming. Neither one of them the lesser of Trump's evil.

I think he was originally a plant too (whether it was on the Republican or Democratic side, it's hard to tell; might have been both to be honest,) but as a narcissist, once he literally developed a cult of personality around himself, he couldn't resist and now is truly running for office. But the Republican's biggest mistake was feeding into the Tea Party movement; had they nipped that in the bud and not encouraged it to derail President Obama's presidency, none of this would be happening right now.

I don't think trump is a liberal or conservative. I would say he is mostly into his own self-interest he will align with whatever or whoever serves his purpose. Right now that so happens to be the republican party. AS far as him being in disguise I would say no. I think he believes everything he is saying to some extent. The main reason he is doing good is because he is entertaining, he has tap into a lot of anger and resentment, and he displays a lot of the characteristics that we have been taught are right; "alpha" male traits, he built his own empire with just a "small" loan from his father, and he is white. Most Americans and let's be real most of the world view a lot of these things as important it does not matter that what he is saying and doing is wrong.

He certainly has tapped into anger and resentment against 'the system'. I can hardly believe he is doing this well and the mainline Republican machine can't seem to derail him. They all seem to have split up the Florida Shrub's support which was supposed to go to Rubio. Cruz is too crazy and evangelical even for the GOP, Carson and Kasich are out IMO. It is up to Rubio now, and I think that is who Trump is going to really start attacking next.

Trump is on record with some pretty liberal positions in the past. I think Trump is not really ideological or a conservative. He's pro big money and pro big business other than that he'll change positions as needed. It's obvious to me that DT found a good horse to ride and that's why he's reinvented himself as "conservative." That's why a lot of movement conservatives think he's a Trojan Horse. To be honest I don't think he's actually a racist or xenophobic, but he knows that plays well on conservative circles. I'd rather see a president Trump than a president Cruz.

Trump is an egotistical, opportunistic, risky, capitalist businessman. He's tapped into a base of support, peeled off from others, and has mastered the use of earned media in a way no one has ever done before. (The irony that this man is RICH and can self-fund, but the media is giving him free press and feeding the frenzy behind his candidacy.) But is he a liberal in disguise? Hell, who knows? Most people get hammered on flip flopping but for Trump, because he's "unapologetic," a lotta folks don't care. Do we really know where Donald Trump really stands on anything or has he just been feeding the frenzy like so many other politicians and telling enough folks what they wanna hear that it gets him a win? Interestingly, there a number of folks that want him because he's not a politician, regardless of what he says or others say about him. The fact that he's "unbossed" and "unbought" is enough for them.

It would be so great if Trump really was a liberal plant. Destroys the Republican Party, and then 'gets ill' 3 days before the election and 'withdraws' lol.

If he actually does get nominated, and actually manages to win...

^^ Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, is actively seeking unhappy Americans if Trump wins.

I guess you could think of it as North Maine. Or North North North North North Carolina?

Ok it really is a post industrial dark, cold wasteland similar to West Virginia with a rapidly declining population and they are desperate too. :(
