I guess there's a limit to the amount of tweets that can appear in a post, regarding the links at the bottom.

If that was Kanye West's way of announcing his candidacy, it could have gone better. On Thursday night, the 39-year-old rapper arrived late to his San Jose concert. Instead of jumping into his set list, West opted to rant about this year's presidential election.

"I told y'all I didn't vote, right? But if I were to vote, I would have voted on Trump," he told the crowd, who immediately began booing him.

He continued to talk about why he supported the president-elect before transitioning into his song
"Heartless." Just moments in, he stopped the music as the audience loudly objected.

"I just said that I would have voted for Donald Trump and then I did a song and y'all sang it at the top of your lungs," he noted. "That doesn't mean that you're a Trump supporter. That just means you ok with a celebrity having their own opinion. Or that someone else is ok to have their own opinion. That might not be your opinion but you can still like that person or still like that person's music."

He went on to call out last week's Saturday Night Live host, Dave Chappelle, saying, "Dave Chapelle, it's ok. We can have opinions as celebrities. I know you said we couldn't, but thank you for breaking the ice on a mentality of a generation."

He also sparked audible criticism when he started talking about racism, saying, "Specifically to black people, stop focusing on racism. This world is racist, ok? Let's stop being distracted to focus on that as much. It's just a ****ing fact. We are in a racist country. Period… Not one or the other candidate was going to instantly change that."

After previously announcing his intention to run for president at the MTV VMAs in August 2015, West confirmed that he still plans to do so, saying, "I will take position in 2020 and do it myself."

West's statements caused lots of controversy among his fans who took to Twitter to talk about the concert and slam him. Here are some of their tweets:

Prior to the election results, West's wife, Kim Kardashian, endorsed Hillary Clinton, as did her momager, Kris Jenner, and sister, Khloe Kardashian. Caitlyn Jenner was the only member of the famous family to publicly support Donald Trump.

Booo to him and Dave Chappelle indeed. I was the hardest riding Kanye fan on the site until this. He can have his opinion...at a price.

The fact that Donald Trump surrounds himself with and is endorsed by racists, white nationalists, and white supremacists should tell black people everything they need to know about Trump. The fact that Kanye can't see how dangerous that is shows how profoundly stupid Kanye West is.

Even going beyond politics, people paid to hear your music, not your rants. It's one thing for a message to be IN your songs, or short anecdotes between songs, but paying good money to be outright lectured to and harangued?

Dave Chappelle, though? Kanye threw a name out there without context. Chappelle rightly pointed out Hillary's evil b.s. which is NOT the same as carrying Trump's water. If Kanye isn't bright enough to pick up on that, especially after the last (and powerful) line in Chappelle's SNL opening monologue, or the racial truths of his and Chris Rock's election eve skit, then he might want to pick up a book or two.

As a non-celebrity worshiper and a person who regularly talks about and high lights white supremacy, I will cosign his statement about Black people and racism.

Dave Chappelle made it clear to me in his SNL monologue that he's a little disconnected from real ppl and that he's a low key Trump supporter.

Respect your view, bruh, I just don't understand how you drew that conclusion from anything he actually said. Before SNL, he actually said he voted for HRC (admittedly holding his nose while doing it). I did like that he was honest about being a successful black man, Democrats and taxation ("damn, Obama, I just got this money!").

In that respect, he's no different than anyone in the school of the Democratic Leadership Council, which was a group of pro-business Dems that felt that leftists were too extreme and needed to go back to the center---a group to which I once belonged before I ditched partisanship altogether. To wit, the man Bill Clinton stole a lot of DLC ideas from:
    Paul Tsongas - Wikipedia

That Chappelle is honest about being a black man that gets sick of white liberals and statists is to his credit. In that respect, he's more like the fictional George Jefferson---a black, pro-business Republican that didn't have a problem putting racists in their place---than someone like Clarence Thomas who plays stupid but knows better.

The problem with black folk is that we've had a couple of generations that were weaned on anti-business ideology of failed, white socialists and liberals, which is why other ethnic groups always outdo us (including educated black folk from Africa and the Caribbean, who are usually more well off in this country than us "native blacks").

Now to end (yet another of) my tldr rants, Kanye is so ignorant and delusional he sees the election as a celebrity endorsement. So, in his own retarded way, he's defending Trump not out of ideology but out of some misguided notion that he has to defend Trump because of "celebrity civil rights."

    To quote President Obama

Yeah to each his own. Chappelle advocating for us to "give Trump a chance" was all I needed to hear about his views.

Yeah, I'm not really feeling the "give Trump a chance" vibe. IMO this is advocating to normalize white supremacy.

This is like saying..."Hey I know you hate me, but imma give you lead way and a chance to operate within your hatred". His cabinet picks view whiteness as the master race.

RIGHT!!! And the joking about getting a tax cut....As a rich and famous Black man, he comes off as clueless to the millions of people that are going to be negatively affected by this presidency. Not even in theory, many Muslims and Latinos have been victims of hate crimes since Trump started running and got elected. But Chappelle will get a tax cut, so I guess that's okay....

I will say this, and mind you I know this is my "unpopular black opinion" which I'm sure I'll get shouted down for but, hey its what I honestly think. I don't think Donald Trump is a hardcore racist. Does he care about black people as a group? No. We are of no use to him. But there are individual black people I'm sure he likes. As a group tho, he could take us or leave us. Mr. Trump is not a racist he's an opportunist. He found a good horse to ride using white supremacists, white nationalists, and the haughty sense of ethnic entitlement most white people in this country feel(this includes whites who don't consider themselves racists). He rode that horse all the way to the white house. That said some of the things Donald Trump has said are true like these so called "free trade" deals have hurt the average working man and woman in the working-class and middle-class. This is especially true for black workers, we're the last to be hired and the first to be fired. Also illegal immigration hurts black workers in lower classes the most by flooding the market with cheap exploitable labor. Large numbers of immigrants both legal and illegal depress wages. The kids of illegal immigrants drain resources from already overburdened and under resouced school systems, because more often than not they end up in our neighborhoods, not white neighborhoods. The Democratic party wants more immigration not less. That'll make the current situation even worse for black citizens. So I can see why some black people we're unenthusiastic about Clinton and the Democratic party. They take our votes and often don't shit for us. They take us for granted except during election season. The go to a black church and expect that's enough to gain our support. I think the Democrats are finished as a national party unless they make some major changes because many people in the working-class and middle-class know that as currently configured that party no longer represents their interests.

While I agree with you, I disagree with this statement or its usage. To me this is enough to gain black (primarily female) democratic support among the chitterling circuit.

I disagree with most of this. Especially the giving racist rhetoric a pass just because a couple non-racist statements (kinda) make sense and I disagree with the "America First" viewpoint...that Tribalism is the same gasoline that fuels White Supremacists and White Nationalists.

I too think the Donald is less racist than opportunist. I don't view him as Imperial Grand Dragon boss level racist. Nonetheless, he is at the top of the white supremacist pyramid right now partly because 13% of black men, 33% of Latino men and 26% of Latino women voted for him.

I'm not giving racist rhetoric a pass. I'm just acknowledging reality. The fact that Trump was able to become president using it just confirms what I think of most white people. They may not say it but they think they're the "master race" and that they alone deserve the fruits of American society before anyone else, the rest of of us should thankful for whatever crumbs are left over after they've taken their cut. Like it or not tribalism has always existed in American society and isn't going away anytime soon. In fact the fact that Donald Trump was elected shows a distinct pattern in American history. Any type of black progress is met with a white backlash. After the civil war and reconstruction we got 100 years of Jim Crow and lynchings. After the Civil rights/Black power movement we got the "war on drugs" and mass incarceration. After Obama and BLM we got Trump who even used Nixon's "law and order" language. He's even endorsed by the FOP, biggest thugs (police union) in the country. That's not an accident. I know some people CA think I'm "racist" when I say the things I say about white America but white America keeps proving me right.

No, Trump is a SOFTCORE racist, lol. Like Hillary and Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Clinton and George W. Bush, he believes in Daniel Patrick Moynihan's Nixon-era concept of "benign neglect."

Yes, these trade deals hurt (as I mentioned to @BrentForays these deals were not truly free trade, but managed trade for certain corporate cronies that bought favoritism) but the coming ballooning deficits under Trump and the Republicans are going to hurt more. As I mentioned in Brent's thread, Trump is turning out to be EXACTLY like Reagan in 1980/1981. This is good news for Dems, is that means the economy will tank and like they did with Reagan in 1982, they can get massive regains. Of course, if they don't really listen to new voices, they can in turn lose gains in 2020 like they did in Mondale's crushing defeat in 1984. Of course, Trump followers will manage to blame Obama somehow for the crushing recession we are about to experience in addition to the coming increased interest rates (better get those mortgage refis locked in now folks).

Illegal immigration was pushed by corporate America and both political parties, yes, to warp wages and labor availability. Yes, many jobs would have gone to working class black men, but to dump on the illegals, rather than the corporations, businesses, and YES DEMOCRATS (remember all the Clinton AG picks that got shot down in 1993 for hiring illegals as nannies and domestics?) who encouraged them to come here in a nod-nod wink-wink onis sort of blaming the effect not the cause. Instead of beating up on the people who encouraged to come, why doesn't Trump beat up on the COMPANIES that hire and engage in illegal labor hires and increase the resources for ICE's Worksite Enforcement program (attacking and fining the business side of illegal immigration rather than the labor side)? He isn't because despite his hot rhetoric he's full of shit on the issue. Businesses that fomented illegal labor get off Scott free and racial minor ties take all the blame and heat.

WARNING: All CA members need to reduce debt and save money, we will be in a severe recession within the next two years and unemployment will rise thanks to Trump reheating the cold, dead policies of Reagan's first term. And like Reagan, Trump will be forced to increase taxes to stem off the deficit he's going to increase along with the attendant interest payments. But watch for Republicans who acted like virgins on budget increases under Obamacare suddenly rediscover Dick Cheney's adage that "deficits don't matter."

Nope, I don't think you're a racist, just a realist. We live in a pluralistic society. Black folks were told to buy into integration when America has never and will never be integrated. That's why I emphasize Marcus Garvey, Booker T, and black capitalism over the short sightedness of King and his economic/social beliefs.

All ethnic groups stick to their own. That doesn't mean that groups are necessarily racist. The Latinos look out for othe latinos, asians hire other asiqns, etc. blacks are the only ones who are scared to help or advocate their own. I recommend this book to everyone, even though it's 30 years old. Harold Cruse speaks truths about why both integration and black nationalism failed us since WWII:

    From Library Journal
America's black leaders since the 1950s have ignored the lessons of the first civil rights cycle that ran from 1868 to 1896, Cruse argues. By doing so, they have fostered a legacy of illusion and innocence that mistakenly quests for racial equality through assimilationist integration, he charges. Enlightened blacks should see that equality in a plural, capitalist democracy can emerge only through racial solidarity and economic self-development, he concludes. His detailed and complex argument offers a sweeping, provocative revision of civil rights history and in many way is a sequel to his classic Crisis of the Negro Intellectual (1967). It is destined to be much discussed and required reading on the nature of 20th-century America. Recommended. Thomas J. Davis, African American Studies Dept., SUNY at Buffalo

Okay, Trump's a non-racist that got elected. How does that explain why he's filling his cabinet with White Nationalists and Racists...and why he STILL refuses to disavow White Supremacists and Neo-Nazis holding rallies for him AFTER he's already won? Hell, he attacks SNL more than he does Racism & White Supremacy. Some of you guys have sipped the Kool-Aid.

Hillary Clinton got called all kinds of "White Devils" for that old ass "Super Predator" comment, but so-called Blacktivists, even some in this thread, basically saying, "Massa Trump actually loves us and gon' do right by us Coloreds with gud jobs, juss u wait!"

About immigration and the US population....what is missing is that while the (estimated)percentage of non-hispanic whites will drop below 50% by 2065, blacks will stay about the same, and the big increases will not just be among hispanics(many if not most who claim to be white or identify as white and latino)but among Asians-who are the fastest growing group and who will pass blacks by 2065. Asians are growing over twice as fast as hispanics, and way more than white or blacks, and will become a much more important voting group.

Pew study: Asian immigrants may overtake Hispanics - CNN.com

The whole problem is not just race, it is that the US is increasingly tribalized and is well on it's way(if not there already) to becoming the United States of the Balkans. And we will reap what the Balkans are known for with that. A two party system is just not going to cut it either I think-both parties are such hybrid patchworks of groups who are vastly different within each party and they may well unravel. Religious conservative black straight elders and Atheist white gay young people and working class conservative union whites in the same party? Socially liberal white rich people who vote Republican because it is the real 'green' party, neo-Nazis, extremely conservative Xtians in the same party?

How is this going to last?
