Netflix's The Get Down

The first ep was kinda shaky,but I eneded up finishing the series in one night.There were so many things I liked about it.They did a good job inegrating things I like such as music,and even martial arts concepts, and having plots centered around various social aspects of that era.I really like the "Ghetto Mascot" speech ,and Zeke's understanding of how things like that work.All of the things going on with the politicians and housing insurance/developments felt very realistic.Those were things many aren't aware of,and something I didn't think I'd see a show touch on.

 

I'm ready to see how that's going to play out in the second half.Like,will his parents and friends find out and react?

 

No eye candy in the cast from the looks of it...They shoulda let Lamont Pierre do the casting

 

I actually like that aspect of it. It's not distracting and shows that you can make a good show without having a bunch of instagram models runnin' around. They look look regular, everyday kids from the 70's, as they should.

 

I didn't give it a chance because I don't like musicals at all. I didn't know what to expect when I first turned it on the other day, but got upset off principle because we finally get another feature with a majority minority cast, and it's some blaxpoitation-esque, I wanna-be-a-star, bs. I may give it another shot at some point, but likely not. Lol
