Police: Athens man preyed on male UGA students

A 27-year-old Athens man already facing charges of sexually assaulting a male UGA student has been arrested again as other victims have come forward to tell police how he preyed on them.

Andre Montez Jones was arrested in December after an 18-year-old UGA student said Jones stripped him naked, performed oral sex on him and attacked him when he objected. The victim said he went to Jones' Whistlebury Walk apartment and drank alcohol with him before allegedly passing out, according to police. He was charged with aggravated sodomy with force, a felony, and battery, a misdemeanor.

Now, Athens-Clarke County police say at least three other men have come forward with similar allegations against Jones. That led police to arrest Jones again on Feb. 29 and charge him with aggravated sodomy with force. He is currently being held without bond in the Clarke County Jail.

"All cases appear similar," Lt. Jeff Clark, commanding officer of the Sex Crimes Unit for Athens-Clarke County police, told WSB on Monday. "They all involve alcohol, they all involve the victim going back to the suspect's residence, waking up to a sexual assault."

Police have not disclosed details of the additional assaults, according to Online Athens.

Athens-Clarke County police arrested Jones on battery and aggravated sodomy by force charges. While Jones was free on a $10,000 bond, he was arrested a second time in February, on similar allegations made by another UGA student.

A third student came forward last month and spoke with a Sex Crimes Unit investigator, but did not want to file an official police report for fear of his identity becoming public.

Then a fourth UGA student came forward this past Wednesday, alleging Jones forcibly sodomized him. That 22-year-old did file a police report.

“As you can see this case is very fluid because additional victims have come forward,” said Lt. Jeff Clark, commanding officer of the Sex Crimes Unit. Still more potential victims are thought to possibly out there, he said.

Police said Jones' may have drugged his victims before assaulting them, according to WSB.

One student told police that Jones gave him an open beer. He woke up naked and was sexually assaulted but managed to escape. Police said they found the victim bloody and beaten.

"In that case, we don't have evidence at this time that supports drugging, but from all indications, by what the victim is telling us, there was possibly some drugging because he was incapacitated," Lt. Jeff Clark with the Athens Clarke County police said.
