As a 20-year old, I can look back at my childhood and distinctly remember my favorite meal: chicken nuggets. Whether I was entering McDonald's, Red Lobster or Outback Steakhouse, the only food I ever wanted was some nuggets.

Of course, my tastes have developed greatly over time, and I am proud to say I actually order other entrées now. However, nuggets still remain a favorite of mine.

Golden, crispy, and full of tender meat, chicken nuggets are a timeless staple, especially in the fast food world. But who has the best nuggets of them all? Well, I went and tasted five of America's favorite chains to find the best of the best in the nugget world.
    5. Burger King
    [IMG]
The first stop on my list of fast food places was Burger King. Although known for its burgers (hence the name), the chain often has specials on its chicken. I ordered a ten-piece and chowed down.

My first impression was the color: dark and pale. It lacked the goldenness that a chicken nugget needs, but nonetheless, I went ahead with my first bite anyway. The breading was soft and the meat was spongy, yet dry. The nuggets were lightly seasoned, but tasted much more of grease than anything.

These nuggets by any means are not bad, but they certainly needed a sauce paired with it, as it was just kind of bland.

    4. Wendy's
    [IMG]
Next on my list was Wendy's, the chain famous for its red-headed mascot, the signature Frosty, and juicy Baconators. Like at my previous stop, I ordered another 10 nuggets.

These nuggets were darker than Burger King's, but they were fried much lighter. With my first bite, I could taste the difference in the fry, as it actually had some crisp to it. The meat was mostly filler, but it still was very juicy and packed some flavor.

I was actually pretty impressed with these, but I knew there had to be more out there in the nugget world.

    3. Zaxby's
    [IMG]
Although this chicken chain only has chicken strips, I had to include them in this list because they are Chick-Fil-A's biggest competitors here in the South. I ordered a 5-piece and began my Zaxby's journey.

The chicken had a wonderful crisp to it, as its edges were crunchy and the fry was light and very golden. The meat was soft and tender, so it would fall right apart in my mouth. I am also happy to say it was my first nugget that was not full of filler meat, and it really showed in the taste.

These were great, and I would definitely recommend them to any chicken fan.

    2. McDonald's

It was really hard deciding whether to put Zaxby's or McDonald's as my second favorite nugget, but McDonald's actually edged out its competition. The classic nuggets, a staple for Happy Meal lovers and fast food eaters worldwide, are still so great after 20 years of eating them.

They are light and airy, but have an amazing crunch to them, as the skin is very crispy and golden. The meat is filler, but it surprisingly has some juice to them. There is a slight grease flavor, but it is masked by the flavor of the nugget, so it is still very tasty.

These nuggets have always ranked high on my list, so I am happy that they did not let me down this time.

    1. Chick-fil-A
    [IMG]
Chick-Fil-A holds the title of best chicken nuggets in the fast food world.

Very lightly fried and perfectly golden, the Chick-Fil-A nuggets have the perfect crunch, especially when you get to the corners and get the crispy edges, which is my personal favorite part. Like Zaxby's, the meat is not filler, so each bite is tender and juicy. But what really makes these nuggets special is the flavor. Marinated in pickle juice, each of these nuggets have slight but delicious tang to them. It is a flavor that I crave every time I am away from Chick-Fil-A too long.

With such great textures and tastes, Chick-Fil-A wins the nugget battle.

Just give me the Chick-fil-A batter so I can make my own chicken sandwiches with bigger portions! :) Though I don't eat much fast food, I be had all these places except the 3rd (never heard of it) and your list is pretty accurate. The only thing I did order from McDonald's was the chicken nuggets. Should have thrown in Popeyes too just for fun. I know in Nola, Popeyes does not taste like it does everywhere else.

I not a fan of breaded chicken that doesn't have a bone in it! Nuggets, strips, 'boneless wings', etc. BUT...I always thought McD's had the best tasting nuggets.

Much as I hate giving homophobes their due, Chick-Fil-A does have the best. They managed to come up with just enough breading to coat the meat, but not bury the meat like McD, KFC and others.

Second best to me is Raising Canes (regional operation). They sell nothing BUT tenders, no wings, thighs, breaths etc.

Am I the only one who just does not like fast food chicken nuggets? Just give me something real from a real local restaurant or just chicken tenders or actual pieces of fried chicken.

*Raising Canes chicken tenders and even Long John Silver's chicken tenders do not qualify as 'chicken nuggets' to me.

I never order chicken nuggets ever from a fast food place because I have never gotten any that were any good from anyplace. I usually order some kind of chicken or fish or something unusual so they have to make it fresh(from frozen of course)...I don't mind waiting an extra minute or two.

Well, technically yeah, but @SB3 and @Ockydub kind of expanded the chicken response. As for true nuggets, I usually avoid true nuggets as they’re usually rib meat in the cheaper joints or in McD’s case, mostly not even chicken.
Just how much chicken to McDonald's Chicken McNuggets contain revealed

Chick-Fil-a manages to give you mostly breast meat with just enough breading to cover. Sadly I go there because that’s what the littlest nieces and nephews want and are too young to know the politics yet. I just hate food that I HAVE to cover in hot sauce because of lack of taste (most nuggets) rather than WANT to use hot sauce. Whether nugget or tender, I wish these places would stop making half the piece the breading.

White Castle has fish nuggets now that are comparable to Chick-Fil-a ratio of meat/breading.

I’m the opposite. The squad member I hung out with recently generously offered to buy some wings but I left him plate-stranded I hate meat that DOES have bones in it (we all got our food idiosyncrasies). I’m a cheap date, ha, you can always leave with cash as I’ll take nuggets over wings. McDs, though, is my “fuck, ain’t shit else around here” choice.

Korean BBQ chicken in Chi rivals chain or black folk offering, though.

Korean bbq is the best. You can't lose at a restaurant here in Koreatown.

I can't believe you mentioned those fish nuggets. I love them(as long as they are not overcooked). Those and the onion chips. There is one of those and an Arby's(right next to where I used to work at my crappy job smh) and both are underrated IMO. Arby's had that shake for a buck during happy hour and they have good appetizers(Onion Rings and best Mozzarella sticks of any fast food chain).

I have never eaten at a Chick-Fil-A for obvious reasons. Raising Cane's was disappointing a bit to me-maybe had too high of hopes given how the OSU crowd lives for that stuff.

You listed why I hate nuggets and I will add they sell fairly well so they are always ready and I always get them when they have been sitting around and never when they are fresh and hot which makes them even worse.

*Way back when, my partner and I drove nearly 30 miles just to stuff someone's mailbox completely full with McDonald's Chicken Nuggets. Don't ask lol.

Well once the kids are older I can ditch Bigot-fil-a.

White Castle does seem like they are stepping up their game. Do their chicken rings count as nuggets? Or BK chicken fries?

As for the mailbox thing, I’m a just assume y’all working an innovative food delivery program
