Predictions

-Trump is going to attack Rubio more than anyone.
-Cruz is gonna have to attack both Rubio and Trump.
-They are all going to come for Trump's scalp.
-Carson will put everyone to sleep and say something that is just bizarre.
-Kasich will do anything to seem relevant and moderate.

Kasich will be out after this debate.

I don't know why I've never really lurked on here before. Poor Jeb. He never had a chance, but he really wanted to be prez and I'm sure he can't stand that his brother got to and he didn't. But I think his son (George P. Bush) will carry the Bush legacy and will be our governor or Senator in Texas, and will likely run for prez himself.

I'm waiting to hear what the chatter about Kasich will be. I'm actually friends with one of his campaign surrogates, so I'm gonna see what kind of intel I can get. As it stands, though, everyone will rally to Rubio. He's more establishment than Cruz or Trump. But again, I'm curious to see what the Kasich chatter will be. He definitely stands the best chance against a Democrat than any other REpublican in the general. And he definitely has the experience. His policies and ideology are a different story right now, but he's definitely more mainstream than what Republicans are left with, besides Rubio.

While I agree that of the Republican candidates left in the race, Rubio stands the best chance in the general election. However, he rode the support of the Tea-bagging Party into the Senate so I wouldn't call him an establishment candidate. I question whether the Republican Party still has an identifiable "establishment." The party seems to have reached such an incredible level of extremism that members of Congress who, historically, would have been considered hard core conservatives are now considered to be RINOs (Republicans in name only) as a result of their "liberal" views.

So Christie has endorsed Trump!

-This takes away the narrative from Rubio and once again, Trump steals away the media spotlight.
-This helps legitimize Trump. Christie is a Republican machine guy who is head of the Republican Governor's Association-yet he is bucking the system and going for Trump. VP Christie anyone?-the VP debates would be great! lol.
-This shows that Christie really is an asshole-a big reason he is doing this is to just get one more jab in at Rubio whom he hates.

When the plague descended on Thebes, Oedipus sent his brother-in-law to the Delphic oracle to discover the cause. Little did he realize that the crime for which Thebes was being punished was his own. Today’s Republican Party is our Oedipus. A plague has descended on the party in the form of the most successful demagogue-charlatan in the history of U.S. politics. The party searches desperately for the cause and the remedy without realizing that, like Oedipus, it is the party itself that brought on this plague. The party’s own political crimes are being punished in a bit of cosmic justice fit for a Greek tragedy.

Let’s be clear: Trump is no fluke. Nor is he hijacking the Republican Party or the conservative movement, if there is such a thing. He is, rather, the party’s creation, its Frankenstein monster, brought to life by the party, fed by the party and now made strong enough to destroy its maker. Was it not the party’s wild obstructionism — the repeated threats to shut down the government over policy and legislative disagreements; the persistent call for nullification of Supreme Court decisions; the insistence that compromise was betrayal; the internal coups against party leaders who refused to join the general demolition — that taught Republican voters that government, institutions, political traditions, party leadership and even parties themselves were things to be overthrown, evaded, ignored, insulted, laughed at? Was it not Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), among many others, who set this tone and thereby cleared the way for someone even more irreverent, so that now, in a most unenjoyable irony, Cruz, along with the rest of the party, must fall to the purer version of himself, a less ideologically encumbered anarcho-revolutionary? This would not be the first revolution that devoured itself.

Then there was the party’s accommodation to and exploitation of the bigotry in its ranks. No, the majority of Republicans are not bigots. But they have certainly been enablers. Who began the attack on immigrants — legal and illegal — long before Trump arrived on the scene and made it his premier issue? Who was it who frightened Mitt Romney into selling his soul in 2012, talking of “self-deportation” to get himself right with the party’s anti-immigrant forces? Who was it who opposed any plausible means of dealing with the genuine problem of illegal immigration, forcing Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to cower, abandon his principles — and his own immigration legislation — lest he be driven from the presidential race before it had even begun? It was not Trump. It was not even party yahoos. It was Republican Party pundits and intellectuals, trying to harness populist passions and perhaps deal a blow to any legislation for which President Obama might possibly claim even partial credit. What did Trump do but pick up where they left off, tapping the well-primed gusher of popular anger, xenophobia and, yes, bigotry that the party had already unleashed?

Then there was the Obama hatred, a racially tinged derangement syndrome that made any charge plausible and any opposition justified. Has the president done a poor job in many respects? Have his foreign policies, in particular, contributed to the fraying of the liberal world order that the United States created after World War II? Yes, and for these failures he has deserved criticism and principled opposition. But Republican and conservative criticism has taken an unusually dark and paranoid form. Instead of recommending plausible alternative strategies for the crisis in the Middle East, many Republicans have fallen back on a mindless Islamophobia, with suspicious intimations about the president’s personal allegiances.

Thus Obama is not only wrong but also anti-American, un-American, non-American, and his policies — though barely distinguishable from those of previous liberal Democrats such as Michael Dukakis or Mario Cuomo — are somehow representative of something subversive. How surprising was it that a man who began his recent political career by questioning Obama’s eligibility for office could leap to the front of the pack, willing and able to communicate with his followers by means of the dog-whistle disdain for “political correctness”?

We are supposed to believe that Trump’s legion of “angry” people are angry about wage stagnation. No, they are angry about all the things Republicans have told them to be angry about these past 7½ years, and it has been Trump’s good fortune to be the guy to sweep them up and become their standard-bearer. He is the Napoleon who has harvested the fruit of the Revolution.

There has been much second-guessing lately. Why didn’t party leaders stand up and try to stop Trump earlier, while there was still time? But how could they have? Trump was feeding off forces in the party they had helped nurture and that they hoped to ride into power. Some of those Republican leaders and pundits now calling for a counterrevolution against Trump were not so long ago welcoming his contribution to the debate. The politicians running against him and now facing oblivion were loath to attack him before because they feared alienating his supporters. Instead, they attacked one another, clawing at each other’s faces as they one by one slipped over the cliff. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got his last deadly lick in just before he plummeted — at Trump? No, at Rubio. Jeb Bush spent millions upon millions in his hopeless race, but against whom? Not Trump.

So what to do now? The Republicans’ creation will soon be let loose on the land, leaving to others the job the party failed to carry out. For this former Republican, and perhaps for others, the only choice will be to vote for Hillary Clinton. The party cannot be saved, but the country still can be.

The only reason I'm nervous is because of 2004 what happened with John Kerry.

We were in two wars and Americans do not like to change things up when we are at war. It is more of a toe the line during wartime. I think the idea of a Trump presidency is much more scary to many Americans-almost like a nightmare. If Trump gets the GOP nod, There will be an endless parade of scary ads about Trump, and he has provided a huge supply of ammunition for them and he will continue to do so. My own 87 year old father, who has never voted for a Democrat in his life, will vote for Hillary before Trump(to keep Trump out).

There will be a reason to vote. The reason will not be to vote Hillary(or Bernie) in, but to keep Trump out - and prevent a national and international nightmare. I just do not see a President Trump happening. I think it will be the fever opposition to Trump that will save us. We also have the Supreme Court thing to fuel passion in keeping a Conservative out of the Oval Office. Trump says he is a negotiator, but he is a wild card like nothing before and that will be used against him. I think Americans want change but the fear of the unknown 'world of Trump' will prevail.

And don't get me started on how Bush stole Ohio in 2004-he almost lost....*BP rising*.

*Just in case though, I have already lined up a place in Canada where I can go. Seriously. I might not go, but the place and offer is there.

I saw that blacks were up from 55% of the Dem vote to 60%, and more identified with being moderate to conservative Dems as well so the writing was on the wall with this one. Super Tuesday will tell the tale IMO.

I have great respect and admiration for Bernie Sanders who has shown himself to be a class act (and Hillary too). They have been the polar opposite of the GOP clown show from hell. Hopefully All Democrats(and sane Independents and sane Republicans) will come together to defeat whichever enemy to sanity the GOP decides upon nominating.

So Trump will not disavow the Klan or David Duke. WTF?

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump stumbled into a racially charged controversy Sunday, saying in an interview on CNN that he didn't know enough to disavow former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke.

Hours later, Trump tried to clean up his comments on Twitter amid an outpouring of criticism from his Republican presidential rivals. Sen. Marco Rubio slammed the remarks, saying they make Trump "unelectable."
The Sunday uproar started when Trump was pressed by CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" about whether he would disavow Duke and other white supremacist groups that are supporting his campaign.

"Just so you understand, I don't know anything about David Duke, OK?" Trump said.

Trump was pressed three times on whether he'd distance himself from the Ku Klux Klan -- but never mentioned the group in his answers.

"I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists," he said. "So I don't know. I don't know -- did he endorse me, or what's going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke; I know nothing about white supremacists."

Trump's unwelcome support: White supremacists

Duke had detailed his support for Trump in a Facebook post on Thursday.

"I think he deserves a close look by those who believe the era of political correctness needs to come to an end," Duke wrote.

He touted Trump's strength on immigration, breaking up "Jewish dominated lobbies and super PACS that are corrupting and controlling American politics," preventing war with Russia, exposing media "lies" and ensuring "that White-Americans are allowed to preserve and promote their heritage and interests just as all other groups are allowed to do."

The Anti-Defamation League had called on Trump to repudiate the support of Duke, the former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, and other white supremacist groups.

Despite what he said Sunday, Trump apparently did know Duke in 2000 -- citing him, as well as Pat Buchanan and Lenora Fulani -- in a statement that year explaining why he had decided to end his brief flirtation with a Reform Party presidential campaign.

"The Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani. This is not company I wish to keep," Trump said in a statement reported then by The New York Times.

He had also indicated he knew of Duke during a Friday press conference, when he was asked similar questions and said: "David Duke endorsed me? OK, all right. I disavow, OK?"

After his appearance on "State of the Union," Trump highlighted that Friday comment in a tweet, saying he does disavow Duke.

During the interview, though, asked if he'd broadly distance himself from Duke and white supremacists, Trump demurred, saying he knew nothing about their support for his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

"I have to look at the group. I mean, I don't know what group you're talking about," Trump said. "You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. I'd have to look. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them and certainly I would disavow if I thought there was something wrong. You may have groups in there that are totally fine -- it would be very unfair. So give me a list of the groups and I'll let you know."

Tapper responded: "OK. I'm just talking about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan here, but --"

And Trump said: "Honestly, I don't know David Duke. I don't believe I've ever met him. I'm pretty sure I didn't meet him. And I just don't know anything about him."

Trump's comments came two days before 12 states -- largely Southern -- vote on Super Tuesday. If he defeats Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Rubio in most or all of those states, Trump could become a near lock for the Republican nomination.

Rubio slammed Trump during a rally in Virginia, highlighting Trump's 2000 comment about Duke as he pointed out that Trump did know of the white supremacist leader.

"We cannot be the party that nominates someone who refuses to condemn white supremacists and the Ku Klux Klan," Rubio said.

"By the way, not only is that wrong, it makes him unelectable. How are we going to grow our party with a nominee that refuses to condemn the Ku Klux Klan?" he said. "Don't tell me he doesn't know what the Ku Klux Klan is. This is serious."

Cruz hit Trump on Twitter, saying, "Really sad. @realDonaldTrump you're better than this. We should all agree, racism is wrong, KKK is abhorrent."

And another Republican presidential contender, John Kasich, tweeted a link to a news report about Trump's comments, saying: "Hate groups have no place in America. We are stronger together. End of story."

During a campaign stop in Springfield, Massachusetts, Kasich called Trump's comments "just horrific."

"We don't have any place for white supremacists in the United States of America and he really needs to make his position clear and he ought to do it quickly," Kasich said of Trump.

RNC communications director Sean Spicer responded to criticism on Twitter leveled at the RNC over Trump's comments, saying, "Are you kidding. Of course the @gop has and does denounce these hate groups/people."

Democratic presidential contenders were also lashing out at Trump. Bernie Sanders tweeted: "America's first black president cannot and will not be succeeded by a hatemonger who refuses to condemn the KKK."

In January, a white nationalist super PAC paid for a pro-Trump robocall to Iowa voters that said, "We don't need Muslims. We need smart, well-educated white people who will assimilate to our culture. Vote Trump."

It was a reference to Trump's proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States.

In an interview with CNN's Erin Burnett at the time, Trump disavowed those robocalls.

"I would disavow that, but I will tell you people are extremely angry," he had said.

In Sunday's interview on CNN, Trump also detailed what he'd look for in a vice presidential nominee, saying he'd want someone with "a little bit of an inside track" to getting legislation approved by Congress -- an indication Trump could pick a current politician.

"Conceptually, I like the idea of a political person to go along with my abilities," he said.

Trump also said he has no plans to release his tax returns, despite pressure from Cruz and Rubio, because IRS audits are ongoing.

He said he has been audited "almost every year for 10 or 12 years."

"Maybe it's because I'm very conservative, maybe it's because I'm tea party. ... I don't know what it is, but I have been singled out," Trump said. "Until the audit is completed, obviously I'm not giving my papers."

He did say, though, that his campaign is likely to release a list of his charitable contributions "sometime in the next week."

Cruz - still has the most punchable face
Rubio - losing; in denial (seriously...you lost Virginia. Virginia!)
Sanders - an interloper who will go back to being an independent in 3, 2, 1....
Hillary - apparently our only hope to stop Trump; God help us

It actually went pretty well GOP wise. Trump is still in charge, but Cruz got what? 4 states and Rubio got one-just enough to keep them in and fighting not only with Trump, but with each other. With Carson still in and Kasich waiting for Ohio, they are all still in and this will only prolong the chaos and help keep the GOP from consolidating behind anyone.

As soon as Cruz and Rubio are out, that is when the possibility of the GOP taking real action can happen-they can't do it with both of them still in. Hard to declare a new person, or support an independent or even call for action against Trump when there are still 'viable' GOP alternatives like Cruz and Rubio in the race.

If not Trump, then I want Cruz-he is unelectable and hated by nearly all who know him and would be crushed in a general election in the Midwest and swing states IMO. Too crazy and evangelical for anywhere outside of the white South.

*This is assuming the electorate remains sane and will not elect a Trump

So...100% of the Hillary Clinton Media Coverage has been about her scandals (emails, Monica Lewinsky, etc), even when she wins a state they make the story about how unfair the Super Delegate system is for Bernie Sanders. As if she masterminded a system set up by the Democrats back in the early 1980's...I'm not even a Clinton stan but I can see the bias.

100% of the Trump coverage has been about how no one can stop him. Even when other candidates bring up his scandals (like Hillary) they brush over them and say it doesn't matter to the voters. Instead of digging deeper into the allegations, they just replay Trump's name-calling from the debates.

No matter what happens it's clear that many people in the media want Trump to win just for the ratings and work that will come from it.

Yep. The media hates her. HATES. And the New York Times is the ringleader. When Donald Trump wins the presidency, I will blame the NYTimes.

A lot has been said about the collapse of institutional credibility. Priests rape kids and cover it up with help from the state. Police rape and murder the people they serve. Newspapers? Hell, the NYTimes blessed the Iraq War; without that stamp of approval, it would have been very hard to invade Iraq. And now, papers and TV networks all offer false-equivalence as "balance". Trump said something outrageous? They'll tell you that Hillary is Beelzebub. And they'll say it three times to make sure you know they're "balanced". A few months ago the NYTimes literally made up a story saying Hillary was facing a "criminal inquiry". It was all lies- they changed the headline, then the byline, then piece by piece the story fell apart. No apologies or formal retractions given. All this from the vaunted newspaper of record. The NYTimes has hated Hillary since she showed up in the 90s. To them, she's the wicked witch in the west...and witches need to be burned at the stake. As I said, if Trump wins the presidency, blame the NYTimes.

Oh I am enjoying it. I am hoping against hope that Trump may actually destroy the party...but it will probably survive. I am increasingly concerned that the nominee will be Trump or Cruz-the two worst possible choices. As crazy as this country is, one of them might become president. That kind of tempers my schadenfraude a bit.

And Trump is winning Michigan, and so is Sanders! -keeping it interesting.

Well, the Sanders supporters will point to Michigan as proof that the polls can't be trusted.

As much as I joke, I'm not mad at Bernie and would have to hesitation voting for him in the General Election (even after that ill phrased comment about Black people having a monopoly on poverty and police harassment)...

I'll be watching the debate tonight...I've seen all of them (on both sides) so there's no reason to stop now, I guess.

It's funny seeing Bernie buck up to Hillary lately, I always wonder if he's ever gonna come off as sexist or condescending.

I am at the point where I am fine with either of them. They both have good points and bad points. I just want to get on with fighting Cruz, Trump, Mittens, whoever it ends up being on the other side.

I think Sanders trade stuff went over better than Clinton's auto industry stuff.

Also I read somewhere that more white male voters went for Sanders than anticipated. I was wondering if sexism would raise it's head among the electorate. Also @Ockydub should be pleased to know that at least half of younger black votes went for Bernie instead of Hillary. They helped put him over the top in Michigan.

Well ok then but he should have quoted the photo too then, as it was it was just the smilie he was responding to and not the pic. Either quote the pic and make the smilie or just leave the smilie wihtout quoting anything. not quote the smilie and leave another smilie..right? The way it was his smilie was only a reaction to what he quoted-which was my smilie (facepalm) which is where the confusion started. I was all 'what is 'confusing' with my using a 'facepalm' smilie regarding a Buddha/God Trump pic?
My damn brain hurts now I am done.
