Now that @SwagJack has been active on the site again lately, I was reminded of his sexy voice and insight on the second Roundtable Podcast we did nearly 2 years ago with equally insightful guests @DreG, @SB3 and @Rod Turpin :

    Cypher Avenue Podcast #21
Roundtable: Gay Origin Stories, The Burden of Masculinity, Fem Gay Media Stereotypes

We had over 70 comments on that Podcast: CA Podcast #21 – Roundtable: Gay Origin Stories, The Burden of Masculinity, Fem Gay Media Stereotypes

For awhile now I've been thinking about starting a Roundtable Podcast Series where we bring in different Squad Members and Special Guests to discuss specific topics such as Politics, Media and even Religion.

Of course, this would be an audio only thing, like talk radio, since we don't do Video Blogs. While we do have the equipment and skills to pull off doing videos, we (meaning I) don't really have the time (or desire) to do them.

Having said that, would an audio roundtable podcast series be welcomed? I know @hannibal mentioned that he's lost interest in audio podcasts.

What other topics should we cover?

Who would be interested in participating?

What special guests (from the gay and bisexual community) should be invite to discussions?

Word. Much appreciated. Academic obligations completed, so I got a little more time to contribute to the interesting conversations on CA. I'd say in the way of topics of discussion, you guys do a good job of that. Still getting acclimated to the world of app/ online "dating," which I feel creates this culture of dehumanizing people. So that would be an interesting topic of discussion. You guys kind of touched on it with Nick's Tinder episode, so take that with a grain of salt.

As far as guests, maybe Keith Boykin for the throwback? He started a site a while back that was my first entry into Black gay intellectual bloggersphere. Also maybe the folks from RodOnline? Although they have dubbed themselves the "leading weblog for urban gay men," so ion know how y'all finna take that. Since Nick is a sports fan, it would be dope if y'all could get Michael Sam or Derrick Gordon on the podcast. Maybe John Amechi too.

As for the flesh, I'd be interested in hearing from one of them dudes from Coco Dorm. There was a big scandal with them about 10 years back, but maybe that's a lil dated? Yet and still, it would be an interesting convo about indie black gay porn and the very real health risks that are almost embedded within. Throwing it back to politics, y'all should look up Ritchie Torres. Not sure he'd be down, but it's worth a shot.

I'm tryin to think of some actors/ rappers/ singers that would be a good fit, but I'm drawing a blank.

Have news topics and let the other guests chime in with their viewpoints, similar to what you and Ocky usually do,but now with more guys.
There have been some pretty good bonds made between a lot of the guys on the site,so maybe some of them would be interested in talking about that..

I definitely would love to hear about politics, media and religion as stated above.

Yeah I have spoken to Cypher Avenue veterans and newbies who stated they lost interest in the podcasts. I was like no!!! But yeah it is about time for another roundtable. You guys can talk about current events too.

One thing I would love to see is a podcast featuring openly gay rappers. I know you guys spoke with EarthTone, LastO, Kaoz (I think) & Bry'Nt before but it would be cool to see them along with people like Fly Young Red (LOL!!!!) & Sony Cobain all on a podcast. You guys can discuss their introductions and inspirations in Hip-Hop then you guys can discuss how Hip-Hop as progressed. Talk about what made them feel confident enough to be an openly gay rapper. They can discuss how the climate is for openly gay rappers today and whether or not hip-hop is ready for an openly gay rapper and if not, how soon do they think it will happen.

    As far as who could do them, @ControlledXaos @KritiKal Analysis @Michael @DreG @NikR @Champagne_Papi @mojoreece @SwagJack @JNH412 @OhSheit @cypher21 @RolandG @Sean @hannibal @SB3 @Lancer @questforknowledge @NickAuzenneNOLA

I wouldn't mind doing one but graduate school keeps me pretty busy so we'd just have to coordinate.

You know what?I 'd love to hear a roundtable featuringsome of our newer members. The second rountable is what led to the offsite connections,so maybe this will create a new wave of that for the guys who are new to the playground. That'll be a great way to initiate a bond, like a virtual/audio meetup.

Keith Boykin may be down depending on the topic...the other bloggers probably not so much...our focus on masculinity in the early days of DC created a lot of unnecessary riffs with us in the black gay blogging community.

As for the porn stars, we really try to avoid doing that because its "stereotypically gay." Unless we're doing a discussion like "the positive and negative impacts of porn in the gay community" I can't see us talking to porn stars like they are celebrity guests, lol.

I did recently find out about Ritchie Torres' work on the public housing crisis...Didn't know he was gay though.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

We've never really had a huge listening audience for the podcasts (at least not one that let us know they were listening) so I'm not too worried about ppl falling off. Really, we do it for ourselves more than anything. We do try to listen to and implement feedback occasionally though.

As for the gay rappers, yeah I think I've beaten that dead horse for years now...I'm kinda over them, lol...most of the gay artists that I actually like don't even make music consistently.
