At the corner liquor store wearing saggy pants and riding shotgun in their homies' cars.

I'm sure they were popular in their locality but with the internet they have a global audience to pump their ego.

A lot of the ones I like are ex amateur athletes that played football, basketball, ran track in high school and college. Since they weren't successful at going pro in their sport they turned to bodybuilding, fitness world, modeling, acting, being an ig/tumblr attentionisto type folk lol. If you google most of them you will see archived rival.com profiles of them in high school and archived sports profiles of them on their college sports team. Some of their archive myspace (pre ig, twitter, tumblr) accounts are still up too. Some of them have old pics up on modelmayhem.com too.

Had to dap all because I agree with the assessments. A lot of folk, like non-celeb thirst traps, were always around they just didn't have a powerful tool like Net and social media to put them out there nationally or internationally. Just like we always knew people in church who could probably sing as good as Whitney Houston or Beyoncé but under pre-Net circumstances would never have the chance to be out there unless some bigwigs "discovered" them.

Is modelmayhem a good or bad thing in this context? Is it obsolete now?

umm :lupe1::patrice:I would say its a neutral thing depending on what types of pics are in their portfolio. Like if they were once trying to be a jc penny catalog model vs a dawpound usa porn model (i aint hatin though) lol. But most ppl who ever once had a dream of modeling used this site. Its a way where ppl can still see their portfolio for modeling jobs, "get discovered", more ig/tumblr/social media followers lol. It was seen as more professional than just having pics all over the internet unless they have their on website.
