When You're Treated Like a Female by Other Guys

    I think it's safe to say I'm noticeably gay. With that said, I recently started working at a new job where inmates work and do menial labor around other staff. Well I'm apart of that staff and have noticed that a lot of the inmates are unusually nice to me, smile at me, open doors for me, and do other stuff that usually is done to women.

    I know that supposedly gay men rule and run the prisons, supposedly, but this kind of hit me out of nowhere and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

    So my questions are:
    What do you think?
    How would you react?
    What would you do in my situation?
    Has this been done to you before... ever?
    Do you think this is a bad thing? Good thing?

    I think it's some game they are trying to run. Prisoners can be quite charming if you let them. Always hear stories of how prison staff get caught up.

    How would you react?

    Because I think it's game I'd play along thinking they have me. But I wouldn't treat them any differently than any other prisoner.

    What would you do in my situation?

    I'm not obviously gay/fem so I can not say I have experienced this.

    Do you think this is a bad thing? Good thing?

    I'm male. I don't want to be treated like a female. This would get on my nerves.

    I feel like there's a balance with people I'm interested in/going out with. I pay, open doors for them, help them, etc. They'll probably do the same thing on the next date.

    With inmates, it's completely one-sided.

    I think it does't have to much with you being gay. It has more to do with the prisoners seeing you as a person of authority like their boss or job manager. You also have to realize that these prisoners probably are just soo happy to be physically outside of the prison. Imagine having to be in a small cold concrete box almost 24/7. They also prob enjoy seeing you a "free black man" lol (Im assuming the prisoners are black and your black). Their being nice to you because they don't want to mess up a good thing going for them. They also understand you, being part of the staff, have the ability to report them to their supervisor maybe even put in a good word for them.

    I remember when I had an internship right after high school where I did inventory on all the technology at the downtown jail. Every time prisoners would see me they would wave and yell hello no matter how far away they were lol. I use to think they prob thought I was someone they know; I had dreadlocks at that time also.

    Honestly, I would take it as a compliment. A gay guy being treated nice by "straight" men is rare lol to me at least

    I would play along. But I'm a flirt so don't listen to me lol

    Not take it so serious. Be serious with your job and follow the rules but if they say some flirtatious things, smile and entertain them. They're inmates, make them feel special because they probably don't get attention inside.

    Not by inmates lol but a lot of "straight" guys that I'm around treat me like a female lol I'm not feminine either. I just think they have it set in their minds that all gay men are sensitive and need to be handled with care

    it means you're cute to them so I would say it's a good thing lol
