So happy this is FINALLY getting some steam. Still doubt this point will ever make it to the main stream corporate media though. This is the primary reason I unapologetically will not vote for Hillary.
    ****************
From Professor Michelle Alexander, author of the New York Times bestseller, ‘The New Jim Crow’
    [IMG]
    "
If anyone doubts that the mainstream media fails to tell the truth about our political system (and its true winners and losers), the spectacle of large majorities of black folks supporting Hillary Clinton in the primary races ought to be proof enough. I can't believe Hillary would be coasting into the primaries with her current margin of black support if most people knew how much damage the Clintons have done - the millions of families that were destroyed the last time they were in the White House thanks to their boastful embrace of the mass incarceration machine and their total capitulation to the right-wing narrative on race, crime, welfare and taxes. There's so much more to say on this topic and it's a shame that more people aren't saying it. I think it's time we have that conversation."

I refuse to vote anymore. I feel that both political parties represent the same views and ideals, just under different guises, none of which will benefit minorities in the long run. It could be a subconscious "Conspiracy Theory" but even the political symbols of the Elephant and Ass IMO allude to it. I may be mistaken, but years ago wasn't one blue and the other red, symbolizing some sort of "opposition" between the parties. Now they're both red and blue. Again, it's a stupid observation and probably just a reflection of my overall mistrust of government agenda (and my waning memory smh).

While I completely agree with your sentiments, I completely disagree with your actions. In my opinion local state elections are 10 times more important than the presidential election. Who we send to congress in my opinion really has the power of the country.

Also keep in mind (speaking to non-registered voters) registering to vote means you can get called for jury selection. More people of color on juries could mean less people of color being incarcerated.

After reading this it made me mad and uncomfortable listening-because it my spirit hard. I realize reading some of these posts and slowly thinking for myself that we don't like truth. It's easier to say Bill loved black people and we associate Hillary with the name. I never read the book because of listening to other people. I dismissed it as just some cult or; just another civil rights leader looking for 5 minutes of fame. But, never actually reading or listening to Michelle Alexander or Hillary's voice on topics concerning black folk. Good video.

This is what people fail to understand. You can't just only vote on the "big elections" you make more impact on your daily life by those alderman, congressional, Senate races and etc. All those small initiatives and proportions... That's the government you see and experience.

I read this book she wrote and it was dope. What she talks about is sad but true. More people should read this to be aware of it. This topic needs to be addressed more. You hear it every now and then in the media, but the matter doesn't get that attention it deserves.

The local elected officials are the ones who appoint police chiefs. Also DAs, prosecutors, school boards officials are elected. These have more of an impact on day to day lives like you said.

I can see why blacks would not want to vote for Hillary.

If Hillary does become the Democratic nominee, will you vote for Hillary, vote for the Republican, or simply not vote for anyone?

Is there any Republican candidate who is or would be better than Hillary on this issue? Any of them who would work to 'undo' what was done?

If Hillary is elected, can pressure be applied to her to 'undo' these oppressive laws? What Republican President from the Republican nominees could be pressured to do this?

I agree that people need to get more involved at the local level. I hate that here in Ohio, the GOP controls the state and gerrymanders districts to suit their agenda.

What about the Supreme Court? Once they are in, they are in basically for life, and look how old they are? What is going to happen if a Republican gets in for 4 or even worse, 8 years?

Is this issue(as bad as it is) enough to make you not vote for Hillary under any circumstances...even if it means letting a Republican or a Trump get in office? (If it is I am not condemning anyone for it, I can't know what it is like to be in this situation over this issue so I am not judging just trying to understand).

*this is all assuming Clinton is nominated. This is assuming she gets the nomination, not addressing anything up to that point.

    Simple...
I will NOT vote for president.
The ballot will be full of local candidates and offices to vote for.
Hillary Clinton is the best republican candidate running.

OK. I understand that there are issues with Hillary/Billary that are absolute dealbreakers with you. If I were in your shoes I might feel the same way. If it were gays in general in question and I felt she targeted us in general and benefited from our suffering in some ways, that might be a dealbreaker as well. I guess I am admitting prejudice/privilege here. I will look into this issue so I can be better informed about it...and I am not really informed about it I admit that as well. There is plenty of time and hell maybe Sanders will get the nomination anyway?

I will also see what other people I know think about this issue...or even if they know about this issue. You are correct in that it is not really discussed.

I do have sort of an obligation to be informed because at least when it comes to the Presidential election.....

#swingstatevotesmattermore ....don't hate the player, hate the game!

@ockydub...we can't let you get away that easily saying that you wouldn't for president [if your candidate doesn't win] after you admonished someone for not voting at all. We all get it. Our system isn't perfect. It never will be. In most elections, we're often stuck choosing from the lesser of two evils. In my home state, the last majority minority red state in the country, most ballots only have straight Republican candidates running with NO Democrats running at all, and in other parts of the country, the opposite happens. What do you say to those people?

Presidential elections are HS student government contests. The local government is the core of the political machine.

I can't judge anyone for making the choice not to vote, because it's their right to. A lot of people have lost faith in the government, because of notioned promises, thus choose not to vote. And I know a few Jehovah's Witnesses in my friend circle that are religiously binded not to do so.

I'm more focused on local elections because it's at my reach. I can advocate to the local government for anything. In addition to that, I'm quick to personally contribute in my community and city if I see a problem/issue and not just verbally vent because our government and/or President "ain't doing shit".

But what about the Supreme Court? I don't want a President Ted Cruz or any other religious nutjob nominating justices in what might be a Republican Congress. Especially with some of the justices having one foot firmly planted in the grave and the other foot on the way down.

    This.

One of the main concerns I had back during Bush-Gore. The SCOTUS is probably the best job in this country. You retire when you want, get months off at a time, don't have to leave until you want to and get to make the decisions that affect everyone. Doesn't mean it's an easy job but it's a stable and meaningful position with a lot of power.

This country won't move forward with a conservative majority on the court.

LOL...I can't say anything, meaning its not up for me to tell someone else how to vote. I can tell others how and why I'm voting. For me if I was in a situation where the ballot had nothing but candidates who's ideas and POV I didn't share, I can see myself not voting. Registering to vote and voting aren't the same. Registering to vote at least gets you on list for jury selection. I think that is the point I was attempting to make to @alton

When I first moved abroad, I would frequently lecture at local colleges and universities about the American political system. I would get so many questions about the President or Supreme Court and Congress but I would push back on all of those questions. ALL POLITICS ARE LOCAL. I watch as people on my FB engage in meaningless attacks on one other about who will be the next President and occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and that is important, but those same people don't know the name of their mayor or who represents them on the city council, or county commission, or school board. ALL of those elected officials have more direct impacts on our daily lives than anything a member of congress can do or a president for that matter. I vote (via absentee) from a county in florida and I am baffled at how much our property taxes have risen because of school board increases that GO UNNOTICED!! Why because people are too fixated on the next president. They don't attend city council meetings, and in many ways just let a relatively small group on elected make tremendous decisions. THIS POST IS 100% REAL TALK. Vote for your mayor. Know who your school board member is, why because they can directly IMPACT your life.

I like Bernie, a lot. I have also mentioned this crime bill issue to my friends and they acted like it was not a big deal. Well, it is. So much so that Bill Clinton apologized to the NAACP for the wide casting net of disparaging damage this this bill created in the black community. Its as if the crack, HIV and black on black crime were not enough... therefore, let's put the final nail in this community's coffin, and the crime bill was created. I will not be voting for Hillary simply because she appears to be more of the same. I Want a fresh perspective. We have tried this way of government for so long - President Obama signaled in a new form of change and I am looking to see different variations of that, and I think Bernie will help make that happen.

Thank you. I browbeat my dad into starting to vote again...in every election. I made sure he knew that if he didnt vote, he had no right to complain about anything. Now he's a true beliver. It's a boring refrain but i keep saying it--"decisions are made by the people who show up".

YES and mid term elections are important. It does not matter if you get the right person in the oval office if they can't do squat because of a Republican controlled Congress. It is not just every four years that matter. And the ones in control at the state level are the ones who get to gerrymander districts and to set things in their favor(see Ohio legislative districts as an example).

This is an interesting election. I've been kind of torn between Sanders and Clinton, to be honest.

They are both quite similar on views, though Sanders views echo's more with what I am feeling. HOWEVER, I also have to think about how this next president will play well with others. Recognizing that the Republicans control both the Congress and Senate, will he be able to work/negotiate/compromise with them?

So there is more to consider than whose views align more with yours. Who is actually going to be able to make some change as opposed to being stopped at every attempt.
